Laker (Robin 17-195TD)

Profile

Robin is a very sweet boy that loves everyone and playing with other dogs. He can't wait to start a life of his own with a new family to dote on him!  He has not been around younger kids but may knock small children over when excited. I would think 6+ would be okay.

Robin has been adopted by a great family with a RAGOM alumnus to learn from, 2 kids to play with, and 2 parents to spoil him! Congrats, buddy!!

Robin loves being outside in the sun, scavenging through the fallen leaves, and playing with the other dogs.

Boy can he run! He oftentimes doesn't watch where he's going so will run into the fence or barely dodge the light pole, silly kid. Give him a tennis ball and he'll entertain himself, and you, for quite some time! He enjoys comfy beds and has no issue sharing with his friends :)

Potty-training is still a work in progress; he's better when he's tired but when he's up and going, still will have accidents without signaling he has to go out. I may start using bells to see if this helps him. Robin knows how to "sit" and "wait" before eating now as well as before going outside; he usually offers it before I even have to say it! He got to go to work with me and the rest of the pack last weekend so played in doggy daycare all day, he was sure pooped out once we got home :)

Welcome Robin to the big US! He was brought to a shelter in Gomec, Turkey with a head wound due to an unknown cause. He is completely healed but does have a fairly prominent scar that leaves him looking like he just had botox, makes him all the cuter! Robin weighs about 45# and is on the thin side. However, he does have luxating patellas of both knees where his kneecaps slide out of place (the right is the worse of the two) so it’s recommended to keep him slender. It doesn’t slow him down any and usually doesn’t cause him any pain. I’ve seen his right leg bother him once when he was running in the backyard; I think his patella had luxated but Robin just laid down for a minute allowing it to reposition and then he was off and running again! Other than a slender weight, glucosamine/chondroitin can help keep the joint well lubricated so he’s on that as well as fish oil for its anti-inflammatory effects and to help keep his skin and coat nice. He does appear to have learned to compensate for his knees by keeping them locked when he’s standing so he sometimes looks pretty straight-legged. Robin has been a little itchy so takes 50mg of Benadryl with each meal but gladly eats them with right with his food. We think Robin is about 1 year old.

Robin is a very sweet and loving boy that craves human attention. He loves playing with the other dogs, though he likes to jump on and constantly lick them. He is a chewer and will grab anything he thinks will make a good chew toy. He has really enjoyed the toy box and is funny to watch! He’ll be chewing on a toy for a minute or two then stops, looks up, and excitedly goes to grab another. Eventually he has the whole box emptied so then he has a hard time deciding which to play with! He doesn’t resource guard and will gladly let me or the other dogs take his toys. He crates well with a treat and is working on "sit" and "wait" for meals and before going out the door. He gets very excited and so we’re also working on not jumping. Robin is not potty-trained in the sense that he's very much like a puppy and shows no signs he has to go out and needs to go out often when playing (no accidents in the crate though!). Once tired out from playing, he is a great snuggle bug and will gladly lay on your lap.

Because of his knees, Robin won’t be a candidate as a jogging partner but he does require a fair amount of exercise like any young dog. Training is still a work in progress but because he loves people so much, he’s very willing to please! I think he’d enjoy having another dog to play with in his forever home but also wouldn’t mind being the sole recipient of all the attention. He has not met any cats yet but has been around dogs of all sizes. He also hasn’t been around any young kids and though he’s very sweet and gentle, could knock over younger kids in his excitement.
