This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Lia had never been in a house till she came here, she has been here for about 4 weeks and she is coming from a breeder who was retiring her. She is 5yrs old, weighting in at 88lbs (she needs to lose some weight), beautiful red and very timid, shy and very unsocialized.  Lia  is almost completely updated on all her shots, she still needs just one more booster and to be spayed. Planning on Tues, Nov 18  for the spay if she doesn't go into season, we wait and see what comes first.  Also her ears have the worse bacteria infections I have ever seen, the vet packed meds into her ears where they are not touched for 2 weeks and most often the infections than go away.  Well it didn't work for Lia , so after a 2 week check we are back to cleaning and putting 2 different kinds of meds in.  Lia  was weighed tonight and she has lost 5lbs, so that is the upside for her.

The 1st 2 weeks were very hard for Lia  to get used to just being in a home and all the noises and what not's that come with being inside. She wouldn't eat the first 2 weeks and I tried just about everything canned, raw, bread and peanut butter, of course kibble, finally I broke down with feeding her cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs with kibble.  That was a BINGO!!  She has been eating ever since, she gets about 1/2 C of kibble morning and evening with a some raw in the evening.

Now to the potty issue, it took her 3 days before she would pee outside, no accidents in the house or kennel. It took her over a week to go poop.  Lia  will not walk to the patio door herself to go outside, I'm still putting her on a leash and walking with her to the door and releasing her as soon as we are outside.  As far as coming back inside that is a another issue, sometimes she will come up on the deck with my girls and comes right in and other times she won't come near anyone.  And some nights I walk in the patio door and leave the door open and stand calling and calling to her to come in. This process of coming in takes about 10 minutes or more every evening.  It's reached the point as it gets colder and the heat running in my home, that Lia  will go out on a tie-out.  One thing Lia  is starting to do is following my foster failure from a puppy mill GR, Lia  and Ali kind of chase each other in circles till everyone potties.  But it's a start for Lia , small step front but it seems to be working.

Lately I have noticed that Lia  is shedding a buck load of hair, so once I get her outside while still on the leash, I start to brush her. It takes 2 sweeps with the brush down her body and it's full.  It's undercoat, topcoat it's everything, she is even starting to get bald spots on her back.  So at the vet tonight I asked the vet about her hair loss and she even stated that this is not normal, she was surprised by how much hair Lia  is losing.  The vet checked for ring worm and found nothing, than we thought about possible a thyroid issues and more lab tests to come.

At this point Lia  is still a work in process so that she becomes more independent and relaxed with the humans being around her.

Updates

It is with great pleasure to inform everyone that Lia has been adopted to a wonderful family. She has a new mom, dad, sister, brother, and a four-legged sister named Dakota. Lia had a hard time at first settling in. New surroundings and environment were scary, but I took her foster sisters with me for the transport, and slowly, Lia started to settle in.

Happy, wagging tails for Lia.

Miss you, FM, Missy and Ali

Lia has decided to come out of her shell to write her own update.

Due to FM always being so busy with work, out of town trips and other issues, I've decided to write my own update.

I'm still very shy and timid, afraid of my own shadow and some days are better than others, but I trust my foster mom--she is the best. She feeds me lots of good things, still a little cottage cheese in the morning mixed with my fish kibble and a small amount of canned food with fish kibble for dinner, and also at every feeding, a fish oil pill hidden in a piece of bread and peanut butter. What I haven't told you is that my coat is beautiful and soft; I'm all feathered out on my legs, belly, and tail. I'm a beauty queen in FM's eyes. Maybe FM will get her camera out and take a picture of me, when I'm not looking. I also get treats in the morning before FM leaves for the day. I take treats of any kind from my FM fingers; I like her touch.

Foster mom has been going out of town a lot with bags of baby clothes, baby crib, baby toys, and all kinds of baby stuff due to what she tells me is a grandbaby coming soon. But I get to go to my babysitter's house and her 3 Golden Retrievers. I like her pack: she has a foster failure, a puppy mill Golden Retriever who I really like and she also likes me lot too (we usually bunk together). She also has a matched pair of light beige Golden Retrievers, a male and a female. The male really likes me; I would hope he likes me as I'm a sweet thing.

I sleep at night beside FM's bed and I usually bring some kind of toy with me. Then in the morning, I try to sneak out of the patio door with that same toy, but FM is on to my game, so she takes it away from me.

My living arrangements have changed. I'm not camping out during the day in my kennel (with no door) anymore as FM took it down and told me that I had to get my big girl panty's on and deal with life, whatever that means.

A few weeks ago, I was taken to an event and met some man and his dog. She was young and well-behaved. I tried to be brave, but it didn't work; I was very timid. But as it turns out, this man and his family want to adopt me. Who would have thought, shy me actually getting my own family. I like being here in my foster home, but I guess I'll try something new again. FM thought I was going to leave this weekend, but my new family was not ready for me yet, so I think next weekend it will be. I guess I will have to wait and see.

Well, time to go outside and do some yard work with FM and my foster sisters, Ali and Missy.

This update is for Lia's sponsors, Paul & Mary T.: thank you for your love and caring. We were in the backyard cleaning it up, and one of my two dogs took a stuffed toy outside and Lia picked it up. This is another first for Lia. We are making small baby steps with Lia, but she is moving forward with trust and understanding what love is. She makes my heart smile and Lia is so brave, but afraid at the same time. Enjoy the pics!!

The black dog is resident Missy and the other crazy purebred Golden Retriever with the white face is Ali, my other resident dog.
