This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

We would like to introduce you to Lucille Midnight, a 3-4 year-old, beautiful dog!   You see, the girl who named Lucille said that a dog must have a middle name, just like us humans, so she decided Lucille Midnight would be her name.

Lucille had been seen living in a culvert in rural Minnesota and initial attempts to help her to safety were not successful.  Lucille was obviously frightened, hungry and no longer knew who to trust.  A RAGOM volunteer went out to see if anything could be done to help Lucille.  Lucille responded to a lot of treats and before she knew it, she was on her way to a much different life.   She was brought to an amazing local vet who gave her all the needed vaccinations, flea and tick preventatives, and a thorough exam.  It appeared that Lucille had also been hit by a car (or something similar) and had some abrasions and soreness on her back leg.  She was treated with antibiotics for this and also saw a chiropractor.  Her x-rays showed that nothing was broken.  Unfortunately Lucille also tested positive for heartworms and now has a long road ahead of her for her treatments.  Many individuals heard of Lucille’s story thanks to the power of social media, stepped forward and donated money to help cover Lucille’s future expensive heartworm treatments, as well as other care she needed.  RAGOM also stepped up and said they could take her in.  Lucille is very blessed to be an honorary golden in RAGOM and she knows it!

Lucille has been in her foster home now for just over 2 weeks.  She has adjusted well and is a sweetheart.  Lucille is living well with other dogs and a cat in her foster home.  She also has done very well with kids.  Overall, Lucille is adjusting to the life as an indoor dog.  She has had a few accidents inside, but is learning fast and will now whine, pace or give you a particular look when she has to go outside.  Lucille has kept her crate clean and has been in it for up to 4 ½ hours at a time.

Lucille can get very excited at times, but also can relax.  She pulls hard on a regular leash, so she is currently using a harness to help with that.  She is not a fan of the gentle leader at this time and refused to walk with it.  Lucille did fantastic with the thunderstorms we have had and in fact, gets excited when it is raining outside!

Lucille is getting all posed for her loved belly rubs!

As I mentioned before, she has a long road ahead of her with heartworm treatments.  Lucille will also have to be spayed yet after the heartworm treatments are over.  This will likely leave her not able to be adopted until this fall.  However, if you are interested in Lucille, please let your placement advisor know.  She is able to meet families interested in her, but the actual adoption would have to wait until she is finished up with all her treatments.

We would like to personally thank each and every person who donated money already to help with Lucille’s care.  In the near future, a special tribute will be listed at the top of her page in the form of a sponsorship from all those who donated.  You know who you are and Lucille is so thankful that you were able to help her during this crucial time for her.  Thank you, thank you!!  You are her angels!!

There is a lot more to learn about Lucille, so keep watching for new updates!

Lucille has been adopted into a wonderful family living in the country.  Lucille approves! It has been a rewarding experience caring for Lucille during her heartworm treatment.  Beau. Slinky, and Ernie and Abigail, the cat and I all miss her.  Best wishes for a wonderful life, Lucille.  Love, your foster family

Lucille:  "Well, I may have shiny, black fur, but I have an enthusiastic Golden personality.  I have lots of love available for free, although a chest massage or yummy treat is never turned down.  I love the people in my life and enjoy them whether working in the garden or napping on the sofa.  I like to be nearby "supervising".

The resident dogs and I have a secret stash of tall grass we snack on.Did you hear my adoption is pending?  I heard there is a dog bed waiting for me!"

News flash!  Lucille has found a new interest-anything elongated, pens, pencils, highlighters, and a stray bristle block.  Today, she found my 3# bar bell and was carrying it off to her lair.  I think she is bored.  Lots of trading going on.

Lucille :  Being on doggie rest is not easy for a young dog like me-so much to investigate and so much buried energy, now that I am feeling better.  The resident dogs and cats treat me like a part of the "gang" and there is always food and water-not used to that.  I gobble it up or as foster mom says, "inhale it".  Well, I don't regurgitate.  (It must be the lab genes.)

I was told I behaved nicely at the 4th picnic.  I hung out in the shade, no begging and allowed the toddlers to pet me nicely.  I didn't even knock them down!

Lucille is displaying good "recall", but for safety, a 30 ft training line is always attached when outside.  We frequently have deer and bunnies in the back.  We take short walks in the cool evenings, but not with high dew points, so not to burden her heart/lungs.  She really enjoys the scents.

Lucille came to me undernourished and now her body condition is much better.  It is gratifying to see the improvement.  Now enduring the last leg of the heartworm treatment.

As mentioned before, cats are her friends.  One in particular, "Abigail", loves to groom Lucille.  Although she is puzzled by this attention, she is polite and accepting. And she has clean ears.

Lucille is looking forward to her upcoming visit with the pending adopter this week.  They met a month ago and a lot has happened during this time.  Hopefully, she will be able to join her forever family within a couple weeks.  Oh, Lucille is looking forward to the country air and the exploring possibilities.

It has been nice to have Lucille's companionship the last couple months.  She wants to please and is always ready to "help".

Watch for her continuing story....

Greetings from Lucille Midnight!  She appreciates all the support!  Thanks to all, Lucille is receiving the best medical support and love.  It takes a community...

Lucille went back to the clinic July 11th for the next set of injections to kill adult heartworms, as she continues on the monthly Heartgard.  The staff at Lakeside Companion Animal Clinic will monitor Lucille for a week after the injections for complications.  They have been so nice to her throughout this ordeal.  She will continue on "puppy rest", in other words, no "jumping bean" behavior!Lucille has enjoyed being chauffeured and does she ever enjoy those car rides!  She joined me caring for poultry, horses and doggie cousins, although she found the guinea fowl startling. On the "fourth", she exemplified good behavior with the two toddlers. She enjoyed their pets and they enjoyed not being knocked over.We all enjoyed the mosquito-free picnic and Lucille rested nearby, but never begged.Lucille can add gardening to her resume.  She assisted me within a fenced garden, not stepping on a plant, and enjoying the great sniffing opportunity and being off-leash.My son, Travis has been introducing himself gradually, as Lucille is slightly intimidated by men.  Luckily, I have four sons who stop over now and then to help Lucille become more trusting.  She met Grandpa several times and he gives dog treats.I know she is feeling better when she perked up when a squirrel scampered by the neighbor's yard and  almost took me for a ride.My thoughts are with Lucille during her heartworm treatment.  It is hard on a dog and so easy to prevent.  Through it all, Lucille continues to be a wonderful dog!
