Lucky came back to RAGOM yesterday. He was adopted out in 2005 and due to changes in his family situation, he was returned. Lucky is a wonderful, sweet guy and it was nothing he did that led to his return. He is very mellow and easy going. He got carsick on the drive to my house, and threw up in the back of the car, so cars are not his favorite thing. He met all of my dogs and was completely friendly with each of them. Last night he had free roam in my house and was a perfect gentleman. He was quiet and slept peacefully in my bedroom.

We went to the vet today for a checkup. He weighs 75 pounds and is a tall guy. He has several fatty lypomas including a very large one on his belly. I have included a picture of the big bulge on his belly.

The vet said that it was unlikely that any of the lypomas is cancerous. It is common for older dogs to get these growths. The one on his belly makes it tricky for him to lie down, so he usually sleeps on his side. Lucky also has a swelling under his left eye. It might be related to a tooth problem, so he is going to take antibiotics to see if that reduces it.

Lucky has storm anxiety and in the past he broke some teeth chewing on a crate during storm. He has no canine teeth due to this episode. He came with a thunder shirt and his owners said that if he wears that and is crated he will be fine. I will be sending in updates about this when the storm season starts. Lucky has been on anti anxiety drugs for storms, so I got some of that medication to be prepared when the storms start.

I have included a couple of photos of Lucky shopping while we were at the vet's.

This sweet gentleman has had too many changes in his life. He needs a forever home where he can feel secure and loved. Look into his sweet eyes and see if he is the one for you.

Mr Lucky went with me on a home visit last night. He enjoyed the trip and getting extra attention. Lucky used to get a little car sick, but last night he rode just fine with no problem.

Just before we left for the visit, Lucky decided that my other foster Annie (11-415) looked especially cute. He started licking her ears and the back of her head. I don't know what set him off, but he just went crazy licking her. She was a little puzzled, but went along with it. It was so cute I took this picture.

Mr Lucky got his toes trimmed last week. A friend of mine was taking care of my dogs. She LOVES to trim paws and toenails. I go for the more untamed look (I call it Dr Seuss feet). As a special treat, she got to trim Lucky's toes. She said that he really enjoyed it and his toes look very nice. You can see what they looked like before in his earlier pictures.

Lucky has completely recovered from his intestinal issues. His appetite is back and I hope that he is gaining a bit of the weight back that he lost. In the picture, he had been playing with his new Halloween-themed toy. It is a ghost popping out of a cauldron. Sadly, the ghost has already been chewed off. Lucky went on another home visit with me and got playful with the resident dog. I think that he must have been quite a lively boy when he was younger. I have been crating him when I am at work and this has stopped the accidents that he had been having. He is a fun guy to have around. He LOVES being petted and there is nothing wrong with his hearing. He seems to always know when someone is being petted, as he shows up for his share.

Lucky had a great time at the Meet & Greet last weekend. As you can see by the photos, he got lots of massage and some retail therapy as well. Lucky had one of the volunteers massaging him for about 15 minutes. Every time she would stop, his paw would come up on her wrist to remind her that he was still there. He was very well behaved in the car and I think his presence also calmed his foster sister Annie 11-415 down as well.

Mr Lucky has been having a few accidents when I am at work, so I have started crating him again. He crates very nicely and can sleep in a crate just as well as outside of the crate. He will definitely be attending Goldzilla with Annie 11-415. They were a good team for working the crowd!

I took Lucky to Ollu Dog Wash to give him a bath. He is too big for me to get him in and out of my bath tub, and since he has such a big lypoma on his belly, I did not want to try it. Ollu has the self-service dog wash and it was the first time that I have used it. The process was SO much easier than trying to do it at home. They have a ramp that Lucky walked up right into the big stainless steel tub. He was a very good boy and stood still for most of the bath. He did get tired and had to lie down at the end of the bath. He was all clean and I think he felt better for it. I am going to bring Lucky and his foster sibling Annie to the Meet and Greet this Sunday.

On Saturday Lucky did not have a problem with the thunder storms. I was pleased as I had heard that he had severe storm anxiety. On Sunday morning when the storms started up, he was definitely scared. He paced around and started digging at the floor in the bathroom. He then tried to climb into the bathtub. I gave him a boost so that he could get in and then I put his thundershirt on him. He was still shaking and too upset to take any of the calming aids that I had bought. Next time I will try to get the shirt and the calming aids going before the storm hits. He did not stay in the tub for long, as he decided that his crate was safer. He spent the rest of the storm in his crate. I felt sorry for him, but was relieved that he was not really frantic and destructive. He is back to his sweet calm self today.

I made a trip to the thrift store and bought some new dog toys. I pick out toys that are stuffed with the fluffy stuffing and no pieces that dogs can bite off and swallow. I get great toys for under $2 that way. As you can see from the attached picture, the pink bunny turned out to be a favorite. Lucky and Truly decided to have a game of tug. Truly was a good hostess and let Lucky win this match. He then took the bunny into his crate as you can see in the next picture. He really likes his crate and sleeps in there at night by his own choice.

The third picture shows Lucky behind a fence that is supposed to keep dogs out of a small part of my garden. As you can see, the fence did not keep him out, but succeeded in keeping him IN!. He stood there and barked until I took the fence down to free him. He said that he had NO IDEA how he got trapped back there! I have since blocked a narrow gap that I think was his way in.

I was carrying some things to the second floor in my house and Lucky kept watching me and looking like he wanted to follow me. Since his back legs are a bit weak, I told him just to stay downstairs. Eventually he felt that he had to explore the upstairs and came up. He checked everything out and made his way carefully back down the stairs when I went down. He can do stairs!

This boy is sooooo sweet and charming. He loves everyone and everything. If you are looking for some golden senior sweetness, he is the one.

Lucky made his RAGOM debut at the volunteer meeting on Sunday. He was very friendly to all dogs and people. It turned out that he was a walking survey on toe hair trimming preferences. He got responses from "He needs a toe trim!" to "I love his Grinch feet!" There are definitely two schools of thought about the aesthetics of golden toes. I happen to like the Dr Seuss look, so that is what he has right now.

There were several raffles of dog related gear at the meeting, and since his name is Lucky, of course he won something! He got a nice big bed and I am attaching a photo of him using it. He is a big guy and has one bed in his crate. It is nice to have another one in another favorite resting spot.

Another bit of great news is that we drove to Blaine and back with no puking! If he can tolerate car rides, I will be taking him to some Ragom meeting events soon.

We are still on thunderstorm watch at my house.I was away from home last night and knew that it was going to rain, so I put his Thundershirt on Lucky and crated him while I was gone. Since we did not have any thunder, it was not a full test. I am attaching a picture so that you can see Mr Lucky in his storm gear.

We are waiting for test results from the vet on Lucky's urine. He has high levels of protein which can indicate a couple of conditions. He does drink lots of water, which may or may not be related.

Yesterday I was on a futon on the floor. Lucky came and laid right next to me. Truly came and laid right next to him. He was snug in the middle and very happy to stay there. He is an affectionate and friendly boy.
