Meet Lucky.

Lucky is a 10-year-old female Golden Retriever, who comes from a loving home that found the cost of a senior dog with some health problems to be more than they could afford.

Lucky has allergies and a thyroid condition that requires medications, special food and veterinary monitoring. Right now she has a skin and ear infections that require antibiotics, a medicated ear wash and a medicated shampoo to clear up, along with her thyroid medication and diphenhydramine she takes every day. Lucky also weighs 88 pounds which is about 20 pounds overweight so we are giving her daily walks and have her on a diet.

That being said, Lucky is a pure “Love Bug” who loves everyone she meets. She immediately fit into our daily routine and gets along great with our two resident dogs. She likes humans of all ages and will seek them out for attention. We have had her almost 2 weeks and she has been a perfect houseguest. She has a laid-back energy level but when on her walks will pull hard when using a flat collar. She walks perfectly on a Gentle Leader Harness once she got used to it. She sleeps on the floor in our bedroom or in the hallway right outside of it. She has no problems being left for the work day and respects baby gates we use to keep the dogs in areas we want them to be in.

Lucky’s needs in a forever home:

  • A fenced yard, Lucky has always lived in a fenced yard and we feel that would be best for her.
  • Lucky could live in a home with or without other dogs.
  • Lucky should not live with cats. We where told that she was OK with cats, but she has chased and barked at our neighbor’s cats when they have ventured into our yard.
  • Lucky loves humans of all sizes but because of her size we would recommend children be over the age of 5.
  • Someone willing to make sure she gets her daily medications and sees the veterinarian regularly to monitor her thyroid levels.
  • Lucky needs her daily walks to help her regain her girlish figure so she can live out her golden years as healthy and comfortably as possible.

For our Lucky - Our senior golden and very special Lucky is almost thirteen and a half years old now and an absolute joy. She has no doubt over the past three plus years ingratiated herself as the queen of our family. Lucky is the most wonderful dog, companion and gift imaginable. She absolutely loves everyone and still finds it necessary to get everyone to scratch her belly while rolling over even without a cue. We are convinced that she thinks it is our fulltime job to scratch her, pet her, give her treats and cuddle with her. That’s ok because she earns it. It's great that she can still run like a deer and is our backyard patrol officer for the birds, squirrels and rabbits. After we lost our beloved Abbi after 12 years, it was Lucky who mended our broken hearts and we are eternally grateful. All we want to do for her in her golden years is to show her as much love as she has shown us. We were told when we adopted Lucky that senior Goldens will show you everyday of their appreciation for adopting them and loving them....and Lucky has done that every single day. We are the "Lucky" ones.  Jim and Mary and Our Entire Family

Today, April 1, 2015, we have had our wonderful Lucky for 18 months. She entered our lives through Ragom after we spotted her at the huge September Goldzilla Event at Long Lake Park. It must have been her immediate "roll over" to have her belly scratched that did us in. Lucky will be 12 in a few months and has been a complete joy in every aspect of our lives. She immediately filled the tremendous loss of our beloved golden retriever, Abbi, who had been with us for 12 years previously, and shows us her faithful love every single day. She is without a doubt a total and complete gem. She sleeps by us at night, greets us when we have been gone and patrols our backyard with loyalty and passion. Lucky has warmed our hearts and has become  a soul mate to us, our entire family, kids, grand kids and now a new little great grand child. It is hard to image how this beautiful senior girl could enter our lives in such incredible ways. Our devotion to her and in return is beyond explanation. Thank you Ragom and a very special thank you Lucky. Our hearts and souls have been fully and completely blessed by your arrival and presence.   Jim and Mary B

Lucky would like to thank her fans for coming out to Goldzilla to meet her last weekend. She especially liked giving out "high fives" to all of you and all of the belly rubs she got. After that long day, she just collapsed at home for the rest of the day.

This has been a busy week for her and our household. Last Saturday, we brought home a new foster dog to add to our pack and it has been a wild week. Lucky and Charlotte 13-273 get along fine and play very hard together. They also like to sleep on the floor together after playing or walks. Lucky likes to take Charlotte's soccer ball away from her just so she will chase her.

Again, if you would like to meet Lucky Girl, let you placement advisor know.

We have had Lucky for about a month now and have to say we have not had a better houseguest. She gets along great with all the dogs and humans she has met. The only thing that she gets snarky about is rawhide bones, so we just don't give them out.

Lucky has been in training for Goldzilla by taking lots of walks with her Gentle Leader on and loves every minute of them, even when it was very hot and the humans could have done without them.

We had her to our lake place and and she stayed near us all the time, except when she saw a chipmunk and chased it up a tree. She came right back when we called her. She liked to explore the small woods around the cabin but always stayed close to us.

Lucky is a very Happy-go-Lucky dog and would love to find the perfect family for her. If you would like to make her part of your family let your placement advisor know.

Lucky will be at Goldzilla all day.
