Profile

Duke is a two-year-old purebred Golden Retriever who came to RAGOM from a breeder auction. Like many dogs from breeders, he was frightened, neglected, and lacked socialization. But Duke progressed almost immediately after entering foster care. The most endearing thing about Duke is how much he enjoys being in your presence. He's not a big kisser, but he loves sharing your lap and will melt into you.

Duke's story is similar to most dogs that come to us from breeder auctions. Being neglected and lacking socialization, Duke was very unsure of himself. Day by day he improved. He soon became a typical Velcro dog. A big turning point for him came after being neutered. He calmed and socialized with other dogs better.

A patient and understanding former RAGOM family showed interest and came to Hinckley to visit. The visit went well and now Duke has a new name (Mac) as well as a new address. I'm looking forward to hearing about his progress as well as an occasional visit. Thanks for the memories sweet boy!

Like many former breeder dogs, Duke came to my house frightened, neglected, and lacking socialization. But he progressed almost immediately. First he overcame a fear of doors to now enjoying some freedom to explore. Within a week he was eating well and started taking advantage of hanging out on the couch.

He was neutered a few weeks back, and this seems to have mellowed him a lot. Duke was housebroken from day one and is not destructive in the house. He has had incidents of doing a number on newspapers.

Duke gets very excited when I return home, get up in the morning, or give him treats. He does, however, calm down quickly and is getting better at patiently waiting for treats.

He doesn't pull on a leash but will cross in front. He has no storm anxieties so far, and is fine in a car.

The most endearing thing about Duke is how much he enjoys being in your presence. He's not a big kisser but he loves sharing your lap and will melt into you.

Duke isn't perfect, but he's getting there. He is not a high-energy dog; in fact, he needs to be led to go out and will usually beat me to the door.

Because Duke came from a breeder environment, he requires another confident resident dog. He does not bark with the exception of telling me that it's time to get up in the morning.

I don't know how he would be with cats, but he has such a gentle manner I would predict he would get along fine.
