10/30/06: 06-500 Maggie in Minnetonka, MN needs a new home with a family that can lavish attention on her! Maggie had a rough start to her life; a breeder tried to breed her at 6 months and when she couldn't have puppies, he locked her in a shed for 1 1/2 years. Fortunately, a neighbor was kind enough to rescue her. We've had Maggie for 3 years and she's been an amazing dog, however, she has had a very tough time adjusting to life since we had a baby 16 months ago. She hasn't shown any aggression towards the baby whatsoever, however, she has become increasingly anxious with the craziness of having a toddler running around. She prefers a much calmer, quieter atmosphere.
Maggie is a pure bred golden retriever, housetrained, spayed, UTD on shots, heartworm and flea/tick prevention. She is an incredibly sweet dog who loves to be around people. She's loves to go for long walks and to the dog park, however, she does not like to go jogging or play fetch. She will do best with a family who can take her for a daily walk.
She has never shown any aggression towards people or kids and has no food aggression. With dogs, Maggie is simply lacking exposure (based on the first 1 1/2 year of her life in the shed) and, therefore, shows some understandable fear. On leash, she becomes defensive, but off leash she goes away. In the few instances where Maggie has been with other dogs for extended periods of time (a few family weekends), she has settled in fine with the other dogs after getting to know them. Never has she been seriously aggressive even in the 'getting to know' phase, but simply barky and dominant and occasionally a bit snappy.
Maggie is a truly wonderful dog and deciding to find her a new home has been an incredibly difficult decision. We just know in our hearts that she will be a much happier dog again in a quieter home where she can get the daily exercise and attention she needs.
