Missy, with a little help from her foster mom, has found her forever family! It was the best Christmas present ever, for both of us, to know that she will have a home and family all her own.
What she will soon discover is that she’s now the proud protector of a very large fenced yard, where she will soon get to know all the squirrels and bunnies that venture in. She will have a new neighborhood where she can begin to catalogue all the smells, not to mention all the new people and dogs she’ll meet.
Best of all, she will be a faithful companion, enjoying every walk, hike, and romp alongside her humans.
As hard as it is to say goodbye to this sweet girl, I am thrilled that she is going to the best family a rescue dog could ever hope for.
Thanks for all the good snuggles, Missy. I wish you a long, Golden life!

Missy has invented her own version of Hide ’n Seek. Especially after a walk or a meal, she is quite playful. She’ll find her tennis ball, which is usually close by, just in case—and nudge it with her nose under anything—a chair, a couch, a table.
Then, tail moving like a metronome set for allegro, she dives, wiggles, and squirms her body under said object to get her ball. Her slender build definitely plays to her advantage, as she always wins!
When she’s not chasing down her ball or lounging in front of the fire, Missy loves her time outdoors. And the fresh snowfall over the weekend called for special play. She was so excited she invited a neighbor dog over. They romped and chased and, yes, sniffed—all in a dog’s day.
At one point Missy became protective of her ball, even though they had both played with it earlier. It was a good reminder that she will do best in a one-dog family. But with some training and more practice sharing, she might be less inclined to resource guard. She has not shown any of that behavior with me.
My new nickname for her is Missy Manners, as she continues to be the model dog, waiting patiently, but ever hopefully, for her forever family to bring her home.

Missy passed the Thanksgiving weekend with flying colors! She went to two large family gatherings, one involving people ranging in age from 3 to 96 (and in a wheelchair), as well as a Brittany spaniel. She got along well with everyone and not once was she underfoot in the kitchen or at the table. I think she was grateful to be included in the gathering.
By later in the afternoon, at our next get-together, she was completely at ease, moving through the crowd, stopping to be petted, lying down to chew on a bone, then making her way into the next room.In fact, she seemed to thrive on all the “action” and gave up naps so she could play with whoever wanted to. As my 7-year-old niece said to me when she left, “You make sure Missy finds a good home!"
Missy is hoping to make it onto some lucky family’s Christmas gift list so she can find her forever home!

Missy is showing more interest in toys! When she’s not looking out the window at the “real thing,” her new favorite is a soft squirrel toy, which has a squeak in its tail. She likes to take it with her, just in case.
Because she gets very excited when there are new people and 4-leggeds to meet, she and I have agreed that finding a forever family that can work with her on socialization and basic obedience training would be good. Still, everyone who sees her wants to stop and say hello, and she loves the attention!
Car rides are now on her list of fun activities! She hops right in, may look out the window, may lie down. She especially loves going to the hardware store, where they welcome dogs and offer treats.
Missy continues to have perfect manners at home—no begging, no counter surfing, no getting into things, no accidents!
As the holidays approach, she’s thinking she’d make a great present for the lucky family that agrees.

Missy chose the first snowfall in the Twin Cities as a good day to be spayed. As soon as we arrived, she went eagerly through the door for the procedure. Everything went great! She was so cute Friday afternoon and evening, barely able to keep her eyes open—as if she’d spent too much time watching the election results Tuesday night!
Despite the cold temps, Missy has been taking short walks and is regaining her appetite. She continues to be a loving, sweet, and oh-so-well-behaved Golden who wants to be at her best for when her forever family comes along.

Missy has really blossomed this week. Now that she's assured of food and attention, she's free to let her personality really show. She keeps the squirrels out of my yard, checks the gates to see who might be walking by the house, and wants to greet everyone we meet on our walks.
Car rides are now fun outings and she'll look out the window so as not to miss a thing. We walked by the Mississippi River yesterday and I sensed it was her first time near water. She got her front paws wet and took a drink, perhaps imagining how good it would feel to get wetter on a warmer day.

Missy is doing great learning how to walk on a leash and sits patiently while the Easy Walk harness goes on. In fact, walks are a highlight, even in the early morning when it’s still barely light.
She takes in the world with every ounce of curiosity she has. If she spots a squirrel or rabbit, sometimes she can’t help herself—though I’m not sure that if she caught up with it she wouldn’t simply introduce herself, exchange a sniff, and be on her way! (At a friend’s house, Missy ignored the two cats, who were hoping for more.)
Missy had a 4-1/2 hour car ride to get to RAGOM, so we’ve started by taking shorter car rides. She was a big help Sunday when I hauled leaves away, and likes shorter errands to the hardware store.
Bottom line? Missy likes to be part of whatever her family is doing.
