Miss Cuddle Bug Maizie found her forever home on January 12th. She has such a great new family and is going to be so well loved. Her new mommy will be home all day with her, and she will have a Mini-Australian as her daily playmate. She will get to go hiking, fishing, and exploring the farm life with her mommy by her side. She is such a lucky girl!

Miss Maizie had a wonderful trip to Northern MN for the Holidays. She was able to play in really deep snow. It was so much fun to see her excitement. Unfortunately, she also experienced the frozen snowballs between her toes, too. Maizie is a great car rider. She doesn't make a peep in the car and stays in the back of my RAV4 with my resident Golden. It was a 4-hour drive up and another 4 hours back. She will occasionally look out the window, but will mostly lay in the back.

Maizie had a vet check-up on Saturday, January 6th, for her demodex. The vet did a scraping, and no mites were found, not even dead ones. Yay, Maizie. The vet recommended that she be on an oral flea and tick chewable in the future to prevent future mites. The vet also check Maizie incision from her spay surgery and noticed there was still some dried blood. She said sometimes the skin will fold and cause a bit of an infection. The vet recommended if it didn't clear up in a week to come back for antibiotics.

Miss Maizie and I discussed her New Year's resolutions for 2018. Here are my goals for her...

  • Sit for greeting people (working on not jumping to greet new people)
  • Learn the word "wait" (to eat, get out of the car, go outside)
  • Know that stuffies are for chewing and playing (working on not eating parts off toys)
  • Blankets are for laying on (occasionally will chew and eat corners off)

Miss Maizie has some goals of her own...

  • Snuggle more
  • Give more kisses
  • Run after the bunnies I see in the yard
  • Play with all the dogs
  • Sneak more socks and clothes out of Foster Mom's closest

Snuggle Bug Maizie wishes everyone a Happy New Year!

Miss Maizie had two weeks to recover from her spay surgery and she was a great patient. After 3 days of lots of sleep, she had all her energy back. Luckily, we were able to continue with our daily walks, and peanut butter in a Kong was a great distraction from play time with my resident Golden. She had her staples removed on Saturday, December 16th, and I was told at the clinic that everything looked great. She had an appointment with a RAGOM vet on December 5th to discuss treatment for her demodex. She was prescribed a dose of Bravecto. This should kill any mites on her skin and her hair above her eye should start to grow back.

This lucky pup also got to meet Santa. I think I heard her mention to Santa that she would like an antler, a NylaBone, and a tennis ball. I was hoping she would also ask for a blanket.... She likes to chew parts off blankets, so now I have a couple of dog blankets with some missing ends. We are working on that.

Last weekend, Miss Maizie went to my sister's house with me. She was a big hit with everyone. She just has the biggest heart and just loves everyone she meets, including a preschooler, teenagers, and all the adults. She also initiated play with her Cavachon and enjoyed checking out all of her toys. Unfortunately, a few toys had to be thrown away since some "stuffes" tend to dissolve in her care. She still needs to be watched when playing with stuffed toys.

I am off to cuddle with this sweetheart.

Maizie wishes everyone a happy Holiday season!

Miss Maizie had her first car trip and a sleepover at a grandma's house for Thanksgiving. Lucky girl! She rode 3 1/2 hours in the car with my resident Golden without a peep. It was hard to tell she was even in the back of the car. The grandma lives in Northern MN, and Miss Maizie got to experience snow. She loved it! Grandma has a very small dog, and Miss Maizie tried her best to get her to play, but the little dog wanted nothing to do with her. She will need to be watched around small dogs since she is a pup and is still learning the "no" signal from other dogs.

On Friday, December 1st, Maizie had her spay surgery. She received 8 staples and will need go back in 10-14 days to have them removed. The vet also noticed her hair loss above her left eye and did a skin scrape, and it was positive for demodex. This is not contagious to other dogs or people, but she has an appointment on Tuesday with a RAGOM vet to determine if further treatment is needed.

Miss Maizie will spend the next week resting up from her surgery with the help of my resident Golden.

Miss Maizie continues to grow more confident with each week that passes, and her sweet and fun-loving personality has emerged. This week, Maizie is wagging her tail on our walks, sleeps through the night without needing a potty break, and has been engaging my resident dog in play. She has gone on car rides to playdates, to nature areas for walks, and  with me on errands; and she is quiet and calm. She also learned from my resident dog that dogs stay and ride in the back of the car. She only had one potty accident in my home last week. She is not fully potty trained, but her foster mom is really good about taking her out every hour to two hours, depending on how much water she is drinking.

On Sunday, Miss Maizie went to Dog Day Getaway for a puppy playtime hour that included owners and their puppies. She had so much fun! She greeted all the people and played with a 6-month-old Husky. She was all smiles! Once home, she snuggled with me and slept for the rest of the afternoon.

This little girl is so smart! She is learning to sit and wait for her meals, as well as the commands of "sit" and "down," but is still working on not jumping. She gets so excited when she sees other dogs or people on walks, and as soon as she walks past them, she wants to let me know. She is also super excited when I come home and wants to hug me. We now snuggle before going out to potty, and it has helped with the jumping. I am also helping her learn that sitting earns you lots of love. She has also learned that baths, brushings, and teeth cleanings are all ways to get more love and attention. A big thanks to my resident dog for that.

She did meet a cat at a friend's house last week and was very interested in the cat. She doesn't know that the hissing means "stay back" or "away," so she will need to be watched around cats and needs a slow introduction.

Maizie loves toys, but does need to be watched when playing with a stuffed toy. She doesn't know that if you chew parts off, they are not for swallowing. She is still a puppy, and everything will go into her mouth, including parts of toys, socks, and blankets. Silly girl!

Miss Maizie wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Meet Maizie, the sweetest and softest Golden Retriever you'll ever meet! She loves to give kisses, snuggle, and sneak socks and shoes when she has the chance... Silly girl!

Maizie came into RAGOM last Sunday from a commercial breeder. She is 6 months old and weighs 57.8 lbs. The vet said her joints and legs are healthy and gave her a dewormer just in case she may have any parasites from her previous situation. She is now up to date on all her vaccinations and preventatives. She has her spay appointment scheduled for December 1st and will be ready to got to her forever home once that is completed. Everyone at the clinic loved her and wanted to take her home. She didn't make a peep with any shots or when she got her microchip, and that is one big needle!

Maizie came to my home without any experience with living in a house. She now loves to go up and down stairs, play with toys, and go on walks. She has a favorite spot in my house where she hoards all the toys. We go on two walks a day with my resident Golden, and she is the best walker! She can be a bit nervous around vehicles, people, and really barky dogs that we encounter, but she gets more confident each time. A person who went by on a skateboard was very scary for her.

Maizie has been with me for a week now and only has had two potty accidents in the house. She went potty on the resident's dog bed both times. I put the dog bed away after that and I haven't had an issue, but I do take her out every hour to two hours on a leash to go potty in the evenings, and she goes every time.

Maizie is a really calm girl, for being a puppy, and just loves people. I will continue to update as I get to know this sweetie!

Snuggles and kisses from Maizie!
