I’d like everyone to give our “Honorary Golden“, Mattie, a warm Ragom greeting!

Mattie, who is a spayed 6 yr. old lab/springer mix, was surrendered to Ragom along with her “brother“, Buster. Their family is moving out of state, and couldn‘t take them. Mattie participated in a puppy socialization class in addition to obedience-hunting training at Elk River Kennels with her former family. Mattie is up to date on her vaccinations and has started her first round of heartworm and flea preventative. She currently weighs 65 lbs. The vet thought it would be a good idea for her to slim down. Mattie agreed since she wants to look her best for her future adoptive family!

We picked up Mattie on Sunday afternoon, and was welcomed with “open paws”. She met our neighbors and their Great Dane with tail wagging. She explored our house and met our resident Golden. I made the mistake of not giving her the tour of the backyard FIRST, so she did have an accident in the house. My fault. That was the first and last accident in the house. She’ll usually come to you and whimper or goes to the back door. Good girl!

She loves to go for walks. She gives a little protest about her Gentle Leader, but when we get into the rhythm of our walk, she does great! We’re starting out with shorter walks to let her get used to the exercise. She plays fetch with gusto with short burst of energy. I’m sure when she loses her “winter padding”, the play time will increase. She also enjoys chewing on bones.

She likes to sleep on her dog bed and will occasionally go downstairs to sleep on our couch. She has free reign of the house and does fine. She is a well behaved sweetheart.

Mattie and our resident Golden have played tug a couple of times, and respect each other. I’m anticipating seeing some playtime since she loved to play with Buster.

Mattie loves attention and affection! She rolls over for belly rubs during the day, her tail is always wagging. She certainly has the Golden personality. She loves life. Her coat is very soft and shiny.

One of the cute tricks she showed us is her imitation of “Snoopy”. She has her own “spin” on how she carries her food bowl. She doesn’t want any crumbs on her head like Snoopy obviously does, but she likes to make sure we know to feed her two square meals a day! She even brought her dish to bed with her the other night.

I’ll keep everyone updated on this precious honorary Golden. Mattie is very grateful for Ragom allowing her to stay with all of you Golden lovers. As Randy Jackson from American Idol would say, “Yo, dawg, dawg, check this out, baby, check it out, Ragom is the BOMB!!! A hot molten lava BOMB!”

Sweet Mattie Pants was with us only a couple weeks. She has moved on to her very own forever family that is going to shower her with the love she deserves. It was at the RAGOM picnic that the P family approached Mattie and me asking about her with interest in possibly adopting her. It was a great match and she is a very lucky girl. Of course, the P family is very lucky to have Happy little Mattie in their home.

Mattie is such a bouncy, loving, gentle, happy girl. She will live the rest of her life in a stable home and never get bounced around again.

We will miss having her here with us, but now we await our next foster, Brandi 08-464.

Thank you Mattie for blessing our home with your angelic presence. We fell in love with you quickly, and we are very happy you are finally in your own home.

Thank you Mary and Carl for sponsoring our little angel.

And thank you for following Mattie's adventures.

When Mattie came to live with us 8 nights ago, I said the best word to describe her is Happy. Well she is still a very happy girl and even more so these days. Mattie met a wonderful family at the RAGOM picnic on Saturday. They had seen her the weekend before at the Petco event and had become quite familiar with her. At the picnic we talked about Mattie and answered some more questions about her.

Well I found out on Sunday night they'd like to adopt Mattie!!!! The plan is for them to come down and pick her up a week from tonight. She is going to live with a very kind family who will love her tremendously. And she will return the love many times over...

Mattie had a great time at the picnic. It was pretty easy to pick her out of the crowd for obvious reasons. Mattie does not have mean bone in her body and she is so docile. She is definitely not an alpha dog. Our resident Lucy likes to wrestle with our fosters and Mattie is just starting to understand that it is play time when Lucy instigates her.

Mattie has been kenneling at night and she loves it in her kennel. She goes right in without even having to ask her. She has been quiet as a mouse every night, but last night when she started snorting and mumbling and then lightly barking. Well she had a reason for this....I took her out and she did her #1 and #2. We then went back in and she went right back to sleep. So it's good to know she will 'warn you' if she has to go.

Mattie got to meet her loving sponsor on Saturday at the picnic. Her sponsor, Mary, is actually the same person that transported Mattie into RAGOM's care. She said she knew right away that Mattie was special girl and wanted to help her. Thank you so much Mary and Carl.

So Mattie is now officially "Adoption Pending". YAY!!!!!

We'll keep you posted until it's finalized.

Thanks for reading up on her.

We're one day away from the RAGOM picnic and Mattie can't wait to see everyone there. We hope you come out to meet her and all the other wonderfule RAGOM fosters there.

Mattie is doing great in our home. She is such a peach to have with us. She behaves so well and never is a fuss. Mattie Mae has a great dispostion and temperment. She still has some spunk and energy to her, but at the same time she is pretty mellow and easy going when the time is right for that. Mattie is not a needy dog. She likes to be around you, but if you are busy with something else, she will just relax and take a nap. Yet, she likes to play fetch and chase toys when you throw them. She has this stuffed monkey toy that has really long limbs. She loves to wrestle it and throw it in the air and roll around with it. It sort of looks like an octopus is attacking her....It's fun to watch her have a good time with it.

We've been crating Mattie at night and she sleeps right thru the night. She really likes her kennel and will go right in there without being asked. And so far, when we're at work she is in the kennel also. It's a really big kennel for her so she has lots of space in there. We did go out to dinner last night and left her with free roam with Lucy. We got back and all was well.

Mattie likes to ride in the car and she loves to go on walks. We use a Gentle Leader and she cruises right along. She likes to walk right down the middle of the sidewalk. We take her on a two mile walk each night and play with her in the back yard. So she is getting good exercise to shed the few pounds she needs to lose.

We hope her sponsors will be there at the picnic so Mattie can give them a big hug and kiss.

We know Mattie is not a typical RAGOM rescue. But this girl is so beautiful, sweet and loving and should not be overlooked because of her appearance. She has many years of love to give to her forever family.

Thank you for reading up on her. See you tomorrow!!!!!!!

Mattie says "Woof!"

HAPPY!!!!! Plain and simple. That is definitely the best, single word to describe Mattie Pants. HAPPY!!!

I picked up Mattie last night from boarding. She had been there just over a week and she was excited to get out of jail. Prior to her being in boarding, Mattie was with another foster for several months, and she was greatly loved and cared for there, but some things happened so her loving foster Sue had to give her up. Thank you Sue for caring for Mattie so well and giving her, her first taste of the RAGOM life.

Now, what we have with Mattie is an incredibly loving and happy girl. I can't stress enough how good she is and what a great companion she will make for her forever family.

I'm not going to state the obvious about her appearance compared to other RAGOM fosters. It really is not important to us as fosters. And we hope her future forever family will look past it also. All that is important is what this gentle, kind hearted, well behaved little girl has to offer. And that is unconditional love. I'll say it again.....unconditional love.

Mattie jumped right in to fitting in here with us last night. She met our resident Lucy with no problems and spent the first 2 hours last night just trotting around exploring the fenced in back yard and the house. She is housetrained and she does great kenneling up. In fact, last night when I brought the pups in for the last time, Mattie must have known it was bed time and she walked right over and got into her kennel without me even asking her and she plopped down for the night.

Mattie is UTD on everything, she weighed in at 60.6# today and she can stand to lose some more weight. She absolutely gorgeous and that fact that she is so sweet, enhances her beauty even more.

Mattie will be at the RAGOM picnic this weekend so come out to meet her and see for yourself. We will find the perfect home for her. Could that be you?

Thank you so much to Mattie's sponsors. Your generosity is very kind.

There are some new photos of Mattie Pants and a couple of her being silly, rolling around in the grass.

Thank you for your interest in Mattie and for reading up on her. Many more updates to follow with many photos.

See you Saturday!

Hello everyone, FM here. :-)  I just realized after looking at the pics I've taken of Mattie, just guess what is usually nearby?? Give up? Her food dish! lol  Whenever she gets excited, or it's almost mealtime, it will be close by. We never have to look too far for any of them.

Mattie took a longer walk this past week and she did great. She went downstairs to the cold cement floor in the laundry room where she promptly sprawled out to cool herself. Her jowls were just flapping, which made a very cute noise. Her tail was wagging too.

Mattie and Cammy played a little yesterday.  She understands that Cammy is the alpha now, and there's no need to be pushy. :-)  Playtime was a success!

I plan on taking her with me when I pick up her heartworm preventative to see if she's lost any more weight. I'll keep everyone updated.

That's it for now. :-) Mattie says, "Thanks for looking at my pics". :-)

Hello everybody!! My FM took me to the vet for a weigh in, and guess what?? I've lost a total of 3 lbs :-) FM was so proud of me!  I am such a happy girl as you can see in my pic. A family is coming to see me this weekend. I wonder if they will be the ones to come take me HOME. Now mind you, I've loved it here at my foster family's home, but I'd love to have a permanent home. Wish me luck! My tail will always be wagging!

As you can see from the pics Miss Mattie is learning how to enjoy her pool. Please excuse Cammy's "moon" shot. lol I was trying to get her attention too, but this is the first pool she's had in quite awhile. Mattie took just a little coaxing to get into the pool but she did just fine. She's been attempting to be quite the food scavenger.  We have to make sure the downstairs doors stay closed since we found a tipped over garbage can in the laundry room. We're still sticking with her diet and I would hope she's down a pound. We'll see what weight she's at in about 2 weeks. She loves chewing on cow's hooves. Smelly, but good! She also likes rawhides.  She continues to carry her dish around the house. I found three bowls in the family room just this morning. lol  Mattie has definitely settled into our family, but would love a family that she could call her own. Mattie is hoping to find her forever home real soon!

All around great news about Mattie! She has lost 2 lbs in 5 weeks!! I wish I could do the same ;-) The walks and cutting down on her food is doing its job!

Now as you can see from the pictures, Mattie LOVES to destuff "Woobies". Notice the progression of destuffing and even a guilty looking face as she contemplates the procedure. LOL Cammy is soooo proud of her too, since she does the same thing. I love the garage sale stuffed animals. It's cheap fun. Don't worry thoug, she leaves my daughter's stuffed animals alone.

She came along for "moral support" when Cammy had to go for a check up. I'm sure she was thrilled she didn't have to get any shots! She stole our vet's heart. :-) He was involved in RAGOM when he lived in the Twin City area. I hope to get him involved once again. She's met a lot of kids of all ages and lots of dogs these past few weeks, and she gets along great with everyone.

Stay tuned for more Mattie updates. Please contact placementatragom [dot] org if you are interested in this cutie pie!

Rain! Rain! Go AWAY! This is the mantra at our house today! We hope to dodge the raindrops tomorrow and take another walk. Mattie still sulks when we put the Gentle Leader on her, but she's ready to go whenever I am. I hope to take her down to the nearby creek sometime next week. She always wants to walk toward the creek, and I think she'll enjoy it.

One thing I learned about our sweetie is she is NOT afraid of storms. Yeah! Thunderstorms don't faze her in the least. She's better behaved during a storm than the fuss she raises when she's hungry. LOL
Bedtime crating was certainly the answer to the middle of the night accidents. She hasn't had one since.
On Sunday we hope to have the opportunity to bring her to one of our friend's fenced in yard to play some serious fetch. I can hardly wait to see her enthusiasm. :-) She'll even play fetch with her bone.
Last week we left Mattie and Cammy by themselves for about 8 hours and they did just fine. No accidents or anything out of place. We had two sleeping puppers when are arrived home that evening.
She'll be going to the vet for a weigh in next week. I wanted to wait a month to see how much progress she's made.

"Mattie-A-Moo-Moo", as she is affectionately called, will make someone a loving and enjoyable companion.

Mattie has been doing great! I clipped her nails and gave her a good brushing with no protests. We've been walking every other day. She's getting used the distance of the walk. We've been crating her since she's had two accidents during the night. I pottied her around 10 or 11 when she's had the accidents, so I thought I'd try the crate. The first night she sounded like she was grumbling! A low and complaining grumble for about 45 minutes. No noise last night. Thanks Mattie for a great night of slumber! Her future family would have to have a crate to prevent any future accidents. Easy solution! Cammy and Mattie have been playing "chase" in the morning after their potty break. It's fun to watch them "Nascar" around the house. We clear the way for the morning festivities. She continues carrying her dish around, it's a hoot to watch. We never know where it will be by the time the next meal time comes around.

Stay tuned for more Mattie updates!

Mattie’s status of a “athletic” pupster reached another milestone. We took our usual 4 mile walk yesterday and did just fine! We stopped to talk some people and rested a wee bit in the park. It was a cooler evening, and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Mattie enjoys her responsibilities here: chewing bones, playing tug, “woofin’” when someone walks by, and of course, the biggest responsibility of all……her perpetual motion of her tail! She loves her rewards: a couple of dog treats and her tummy rubbed.

She’s been “oh so shy” of raising our awareness of cutting down her portion of food that she feels the need to show us her food dish during the day. She does have the poor pitiful me look down pat. J

In about a week or so I’m planning on taking her to the vet again for a quick weigh in. I’m confident of the results!

Mattie would just love to have some visitors over so she can give some more lovin’ to a family who want to take to her forever home!

Mattie continues to be wonderful companion.  We've been walking every other day using the Gentle Leader. While I was driving to the park, she managed to get the G.L. off of her nose. She was hoping I wouldn't notice, but I did. :-)

I'm hoping to increase the distance this week. She really does like the walks with all of the sights and smells.

She has her playful times where she loves retrieving the ball. She'll occasionally want us to play fetch with her bone. Silly Girl!

She certainly likes to carry her food bowl around. It's just too cute. She'll push her paw on one side of the dish and when it is upright she'll carry the prize around the house.

Mattie is hoping that even though she isn't an Golden, but honorary one, she'll make a family very happy. She's a very easy dog who loves to hang with you. Could that loving family be yours??

Hello everyone,
My FM wanted you to see my "Snoopy" pose. Aren't I just the cutest thing? I love carrying things around in my mouth, and I make sure I have a bone or even my dish by my bed when I go to sleep. I was such a good girl yesterday. My foster family went out of town and I was an angel while they were gone! I had free roam of the house, and I behaved myself. Sounds just like a Golden, doesn't it?
