Missy C.
July 4, 2002 – August 12, 2012

Our beautiful golden girl, Missy, left this world after a brief but valiant fight against canine cancer. Missy was first known as ‘Kitty’ when she arrived at RAGOM in August 2002. We weren’t looking for an 8 week old puppy but agreed to take a look at her. It was mutual love at first sight! We had 10 wonderful years with her and so many memories. I am sure glad that digital photography came into popularity during her lifetime as we have thousands of photo and videos of her to keep her memory close.

Missy earned the Canine Good Citizenship certificate in 2004 and visited nursing homes bringing joy to residents. When I retired in 2011 I had planned for Missy and I to resume visits and to get her certified as a therapy dog. As misfortune would have it, there were no certifications until spring of 2012 and by that time we discovered she had hemangiosarcoma. We then put our efforts into slowing the spread of this insidious disease and to enjoy as much time as we could with her.

Last week, she exhibited signs that the disease had returned and a visit to her oncologist confirmed our worst fears. Five days later we had to put our beautiful girl to rest and let her go to the Rainbow Bridge. We believe that dogs do go to a place, call it Heaven, Rainbow Bridge, or wherever to wait for us. We know that we will be reunited with them and then we will again enjoy the love that was interrupted.

As a commitment to Missy we will be working to help in finding a cure for canine cancer with the hope that no other families suffer from this disease.

In closing we are truly blessed to have had Missy and we want to sincerely thank RAGOM for bringing us together. It was a great 10 years filled with love, fun and memories that will go on and on.

I wanted to share some recent photos of Missy up to the last few weeks of her life. We like to think of her at the Rainbow Bridge playing fetch, having fun, helping with the cooking, enjoying rides in convertibles and taking time to smell the flowers. Another like her there will never be.

From Missy's new family...

Missy (a.k.a. Kitty) Update,

Missy has been with us since August 29th and she is doing great. She's really settled in as member of the family. She's growing by leaps and bounds and has more energy than I thought any dog could have. Missy is our first puppy, we've had three other dogs that were older when we adopted them, and so this is a new experience for us. We really enjoy watching Missy as she learns and explores things. She's great with kids and other dogs and is the favorite in our neighborhood. In fact the neighbor kids come over to see if Missy can come out and play with them. We bought Missy her own swimming pool, a plastic child's pool, and she loved to go swimming, a true Golden! She loves rides in the car and she loves to go down to walk around Lake Minnetonka. Of course she loves to meet all the people and other dogs that stop by to see her. We've started Puppy Classes and she's doing very well in learning her commands, she's very smart! We're hoping that she can eventually be able to visit hospitals and/or nursing homes to bring joy to those who are shut-in. She's such a happy dog that she makes everyone she meets feel better.

Missy has some big paws to fill, as we lost our Golden girl, Boni, in May to cancer. Already she has filled the void we had with a lot of love and puppy kisses. We're sure that Boni is very happy that Missy is here with us now. We're so happy that Missy has come into our lives and we think she feels the same. We look forward to a long and wonderful relationship with our new fur kid.

Thanks to everyone at RAGOM who helped bring us together.

(NOTE FROM RAGOM: Missy and her family came to the RAGOM picnic and she was as sweet and adorable as ever; charming everyone she met. She is now growing very quickly, but looks just the same only a bit bigger. She is a wonderful puppy and her new family loves her very much.)

Kitty, who will now be known as Missy, has found her home. (Do you think it was hard for her to melt some hearts!) She will be the new puppy in a loving home where she will have the chance to carry on for a wonderful golden who passed away earlier this year. Best of luck to you in your new forever home, Miss Kitty! Don't worry, this one is for keeps.
