With the new year quickly approaching, it is only fitting that Ranger should have a new web page!

To give you a quick update on Ranger's background: Ranger came to RAGOM in May, 2007. My original impression of him was "sweet, outgoing, loving, kissing, wanna play, good manners and I'll whine when I have to go out kinda guy" and that has not changed one bit! He is a terrific dog who is a joy to have around.

Ranger arrived with hip dysplasia and immediately had surgery on the right hip. It has since been determined by the veterinary clinic that surgery on the other hip is not needed at this time, and may never be needed (see below for input from an owner who had a dog with a similar problem). Ranger is doing absolutely GReat! No health problems - no mobility problems - he loves all people, children, dogs, and cats!

Plays and gets along with ALL dogs!
One at a time... two at a time... or in very large groups!

A cat can be his best friend!

Very intelligent... very focused... eager to learn... ready to please!
We should all be so lucky to have a friend like this in our house!

A note from one of Ranger's newest fans

A former RAGOM volunteer, the happy owner of three dogs, and as manager of a vet clinic has seen a lot of dogs come and go and all that befalls our 4-legged friends

In the course of other rescue business, I had the good fortune to get to meet Ranger last Saturday. I was surprised to learn how long he had been in foster care, still waiting for his forever home! If the words "hip dysplasia" are causing any potential homes to pass this boy by, they're missing out on a gem of a dog! Years ago I adopted a golden puppy who I named Ripley. At five months he was diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia and he had hip shelf arthroplasty on both hips at six months old. I never regretted it for a second, and he had a long, active, healthy, pain-free life until hemangiosarcoma (a catastrophic vascular cancer) took him from us at age 13, a year ago this week. Ripley completed his AKC Companion Dog title, served as a Therapy Dog for many years, and never missed a chance to go hiking or to the lake. Ranger can expect a long, active, wonderful life, too!

I understand RAGOM has already had surgery on one of his hips, and that the consensus is that he may never even NEED surgery on the other hip. He is very lean and active, keeping that muscle tone up and unnecessary weight off. He is sweet and playful and loving, and just about as much fun as a golden can be (and that's saying a LOT!). He played great with his young foster brother and a young guest dog, and was attentive yet respectful of the older resident dog.

I KNOW if someone is willing to take a chance on Ranger, they will never be disappointed. Keep him trim and in good shape, and put him on a high quality joint support supplement (which, if you have ANY golden, you should be doing anyway) and enjoy him! With our goldens, as much as we love them, we never know what their orthopedic future may hold. Sadly, that risk is part and parcel with the breed, along with other health conditions, such as the hemangiosarcoma that claimed my Ripley. But hip dysplasia wasn't a big issue in Ripley's life, and it doesn't have to be in Ranger's either! One hip is "overhauled" and ready to go, and the other may be fine forever with the right nutrition and exercise. But don't miss out on a great dog because you're concerned about what MIGHT happen someday!

Another testimonial!

From a temp foster mom and her two dogs

Mason, Zach and I had the pleasure of having Ranger as a houseguest for a long weekend. And it truly was a pleasure! First of all, he is absolutely adorable, just this tall, lanky, adolescent-looking, happy guy who loves to play with other dogs, toys, and fetch a ball, but is also incredibly well-behaved in the house! I know his foster mom has mentioned how well-behaved he is for a ONE YEAR OLD, but I'm here to tell you that she really means it!

I also have a 1 year old Ragom boy, Zach (06-487), and he and Ranger hit it off SO well, they are seriously like two peas in a pod. Except that Ranger doesn't chew rugs, shoes, towels, and other household items... (ahem), so I was hoping he would teach Zach a thing or two about "inside" behavior. Well, at least he kept him busy during the first couple of rainy days, so Zach didn't have time to get into trouble... and eventually they managed to tire each other out. Even my 3 yr old GR, Mason, loved Ranger, which is saying a lot. Mason can be discriminating with his doggie friends, and I'm happy to say that Ranger passed his test with flying colors.

Ranger brought me to the RAGOM Chuck and Don's event on Saturday and had a ball meeting and greeting both people and dogs. His only downfall with other dogs (which my 1 year old shares) is that he can come on a little strong at first. He is SO friendly and playful, and so sure that every other dog will love him and want to play with him, that he is sometimes a little too "in their face", and thus received a few growls on Saturday. Overall, he's a really well socialized young guy, so I think this is something he will learn as he matures, and realizes that not all dogs will love him right off the bat as much as he loves them.

I am really not sure why this handsome, GReat young guy is still in foster care. I know he's got hip dysplasia, and with it comes the potential for more problems down the road, but for now his right leg has recovered very well from the surgery, and he showed no evidence of limping or pain, even after several days of hard-core running, jumping and playing! I'd say this guy is a diamond in the rough, and the family who is willing to overlook his "imperfect" hips, will be very lucky indeed! I know I'd welcome Ranger back here anytime... the door is always open for you Mr. Ranger Rover!

Updates

Thursday, January 25, 2018

We have been putting off sending this email, as our hearts are still hurting.

On October 25, 2017, our sweet boy Ranger crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was the most gentle, kind, silly dog, who never missed a night to snuggle in between us.   In cooler months, he would sneak into bed between us and sleep quietly and not move, unless his Dad was snoring, then he would put his snout under his head and nudge him until Dad stopped snoring, then he’d go back to sleep.  He showed his little brother Radar how to be “A Golden” boy.  The two were inseparable and together they ruled their kingdom!  Radar misses him as much as we do!

We adopted Ranger December 15, 2007, he was 17 months old and had been in foster care for 10 months.  Ranger had hip dysplasia, one hip fixed, the other might have to be.  That didn’t stop us from knowing the moment we saw the goofy, sweet boy……who parked his backside on you…… that we wanted to be his forever home.  Ranger had a special bond with foster mom Joyce, and we will be forever grateful that she waited to find the perfect family for him.  Ranger loved his tennis balls…….he would fetch them until your arm hurt…. jump in his swimming pool, cool off and do it all over again.  He was full of life and never missed a chance to play, and play hard he did!  He & his brother would snarl, growl, bark and make vicious sounds all with wagging tails.  Ranger was as fast as lightning and always seemed to have one last burst of speed to outrun Radar to get to the ball or keep it away.

We loved Ranger as much as he loved us, and in his 11.5 years, brought so much joy and taught us so many lessons.  Rest in peace my good boy, run free and I’m sure you have already found Joyce waiting for you!  He is now gone from our sides, but forever in our hearts!  He was a kind, caring, gentle old soul in a canine’s body!  Ranger taught us:

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Take naps.
  • Stretch before rising.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • On warm days, stop to roll on your back on the grass.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and take a dip in the pool.
  • When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • Delight in the pleasure of a long walk.
  • Be loyal.
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

We adopted Ranger 07-237 in December of 07  - he was 17 months old.  He melted our hearts immediately and fit right into our family.  We love him very much and I do believe the feelings are mutual!  To tell you a bit about him since December of 07…He has attended 40 +  weeks of obedience school and earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate and is currently working on hand signal commands.  He is very eager to please and we have taught him several tricks which he loves to do.  He speaks, spins, reverses, rolls over, takes a treat from your mouth without taking  your lips with him! and many more.  He is very active, loves his tennis balls, he can run like a deer and is very loyal.  He loves the boat in the summer and swimming at the lake is at the top of his list.  Ranger had hip dysplasia when he entered into the care of Ragom and had surgery on one hip.  He has had absolutely no issues since.  At the time we adopted Ranger, we also had a 9 year GR - Sam.  After several months, we realized Ranger needed a buddy that was just as active.  He was wearing poor Sam out!   So…………

We adopted Radar (formerly Jasiek 08-298) in July of 08.  Radar was 7 mos when we got him.  Once again, our hearts melted with this young boy and he too fit right in.  He followed Ranger everywhere - hence the name Radar (he always knows where his buddy is).  This boy also had hip dysplasia but showed no signs of discomfort and none since. Radar has also attended obedience school and earned his GCG (Canine Good Citizen) certificate in just a little over 8 weeks.  He too is working on hand signals and knows many tricks.  This young boy is SMART!  And PATIENT.  It's so much fun to watch him grow physically and to see how much he has matured.  He's not as fast as his brother when it comes to running at the dog park, but he continues to give it his best shot and is getting very close to catching him!. He is a very affectionate boy and loves his dad!  He will snuggle with you anytime he can - anywhere.  Many times he thinks he's a lap dog!  He's now as big if not bigger than his brother Ranger.

The two are almost inseparable.

R&R lost their big brother Sam in January of 09 to cancer, so thank goodness they have each other and we have them.  We feel very fortunate to have two such lovable, friendly, healthy good boys!  I would hope any potential adopters would not pass on any of the RAGOM dogs because of a few little medical issues that may or may not ever come up.  They give back so much to you!

I know there may be a few of you out there who wonder how Ranger is doing in his new life, so thought I'd share these wonderful pictures with you. I still miss him and when I am really lonesome for him I go online and look back at all the pictures I took of him. Meanwhile, he has the best life any dog could want. When I feel saddest I think of him with his new family and Sam, his fur brother, playing at the dog parks, racing around, exploring and showing he can beat any dog in a race. Just ask his mom:) His mom made him his very own forever quilt, and that says a lot about her and how much he is loved.

So Happy New Year in your new forever home, Ranger!! Foster mom misses you a lot, but I know you have the life you deserve.

Hi Joyce,

Thought I would let you be the first to see Ranger's New Quilt! I worked on it all day yesterday and finished up about 3:00 today. I think he likes it! I especially like his name and his paw prints in the corners. It will be his forever!

He is doing great, has a wonderful personality and is such a character. He had his first correction on the fence today (I hate doing it). It scared the heck out of him, and he made a bee line for the house. This is good! We want to keep him safe. He now knows not to go near the flags, so he now just needs to know not to leave the driveway without one of us with him. He is very smart and catches on rather quickly.

He and Sam have been playing indoors most of the day due to the cold, but they still venture out (it's Frank and I that freeze out there).

Enjoy the pics! Will keep you posted!

For those of you who have followed Ranger's saga these past months, I thought you would enjoy seeing a few pictures of his new life. Now not only does he have GReat parents and wonderful fur brother, Sam, he goes to a dog park. At the park he has made new friends (see the one with the St. Bernard) and just loves the freedom and socializing. Life is AWESOME for this young boy, and as much as I miss him (sniff sniff) I know he is happy, happy, happy!!!

Lake (the lab next door and Ranger's best friend) has been lost without his buddy. He came over one night and whinned and cried the entire night. Resident Jake just isn't as much fun. Lake still looks over to our yard waiting for signs that Ranger is 'back'. Maybe one day way down the road Ranger will come to visit.

Enjoy the pictures, thanks again to his fosters, The H family, Peggy and Rhonda....who I think may just see Ranger at the dog park one day:)

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL..........

After 6 months of updates on Ranger there is only the happy ending to add. He has been adopted by Deb and Frank, will have a 10 year old fur butt brother, Sam the GR, a couple human siblings and a cousin fur butt too.  He will be loved and lack for nothing in any area of his life. Jake wanted to go with him today and got in the SUV twice, and was pretty down hearted to not be able to go with Ranger. Coulter will surely miss his cuddling buddy, and I know Lake next door will not find Jake to be as much fun as Ranger was.

But from the moment I talked with Deb on the phone, and they stepped in my house, I knew this was "the family" for Ranger. I will miss him so much, but know he will settle in, be happy and in the spring I will go visit my Range Rover. Once again, a piece of my heart left with this sweet young boy. Thanks for the great memories, Bubba, and see you soon.

Hugs and kisses
FM, FD, Jake, Coulter & Sedwick

PS Thanks, Con:)

 RANGER'S EMAIL TO FOSTER MOM

Hi FM - It's me Ranger Danger! Just want to let you know I am doing great!  I  had a really good ride home and when we got to the vet, I was the best boy ever. I met Dr. R - she said I was one handsome dude!  She was so glad my new mom had decided to adopt me!  They gave me lots of treats there and one tiny shot that did not hurt at all. Then I got back in the car with Dad, and we waited for Mom so they could make copies of my paperwork.  We then went home.  It's really awesome here - I got to check out the whole place - Sam showed me where all the rooms are and then Mom took my stuff and put it all in its new spot. My blanket is in the room with Mom and Dad and I heard them say that if Ranger wants to sleep on the bed tonight he can - ha ha - I plan to find my spot! After I checked out the inside, Dad took me outside - WOW they got this really big yard and a bunch of woods - I peeded on a lot of trees! I do have the squirts still and Mom had to wipe my fur butt two times. I heard her and Dad say they will have to keep an eye on my poop - ISH!  Maybe tomorrow I'll be firm! Anyway it was really cool. Then we went for a short walk down the street, they did not want me to overdo so we will go to the dog park on Friday after I get settled in more. Sam and I then got to eat, I was really hungry and ate all 4 cups of my food.  Mom has bowls for both Sam and I in the laundry room and I lapped up all most all the water in this big dish that has dog paws - like they think we need dog paws on the dish so we know it's ours!  Humans!

I got to meet Mom's two kids tonight - they both thought I was really cool.  The boy Erik layed on the floor with me and rubbed my tummy - you know I like that!  The girl Carrie was very gentle with me and gave me lots of hugs.  It's been a busy day and I am tired tonight.  I think Mom wants to write a couple things and Dad is going to take me and Sam outside for a potty break before bed, then my pills.  I really miss you FM, but I want you to know I really like it here and my new Mom and Dad promised they will keep in touch with you always.

I gotta go now.....Sam is beating me to the door!  Love you.

Ranger

Hello

One last look

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Hi Ranger-Man!!! This is Darwin, formerly your foster-brother Bushido! I just saw your new pictures on the website, and HEY, I gots a hedgeyhoggie JUST like yours!!!!!! I'm not allowed to un-stuff mine, either.

Today I went to work with Mom. They messed with my butt AGAIN, but my anal glands were fine. They also cutted off my toes. OK, they trimmed my nails, but you know how that goes. I'd rather they didn't. I almost caught a cat, but he got away.

I get the BEST food!!!! It's MEAT! LOTS of meat! Right off the critter, it seems like! And little doggie crunchies, and some good fishy stuff, and some powder that tastes like the inside of cows, and sometimes raw eggs or yogurt. I get an extra-big bowl, but I eat faster than ANY of my brothers, and my Mom didn't think ANY DOGGIE could eat faster than Ozark!

I'm TOTALLY with you on the snow thing. It's fun for a few minutes, then I get iceyballs in my feets and would rather go inside and lay on the couch with mom and de-ice my paws. Mom says the carpet, the couch, and her socks won't be dry till spring, with all four of us!

Yesterday I mostly laid on the bed with Dad and watched football. Those guys are really dumb. They go get the ball and run the other way. Don't they know they're supposed to take it BACK to the guy who threw it? That's what retrievers do, and we are the best and smartest beings on the planet. WAY better than "receivers!"

So, anyway, I just wanted to say hi and that I hope you get your forever family really soon! Whoever they are, maybe in May you can come visit and swim in the BIG POOL here. I tried to go in it when I first got here, but it has a cover on it, and only a little icy water was on top. In the summer, though, it's gonna be GREAT!

Take care of Jake, and have fun with Lake, and I'll write you again soon!

Woof,
Darwin

Hey, Darwin Dude ,

It's great to hear from you. FM keeps in touch with your new mom and tells me all about the your new life. Sounds like you got it SWEET!! Gotta say I miss ya, but Coulter and Sedwick are sooooo happy to be free and go where they want in the house (you really cramped their style)! We had another foster here for about a week, Sloan 07-665, and he liked to play once I showed him the ropes and stuff. But now he's in IA at his new foster home.

Lake and I are still hanging out, but he loves the snow and his feet never seem to get cold. We play outside for a while and then in and chase around and play tug. Next to you he'll always be my best buddy.

Well, I've got really, I mean HUGE NEWS, I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!!!! I'm so surprised cuz I figured I'd be living here forever, which would have been cool. I had one family finally come meet me, and they liked me, and their boxer liked me, but it just didn't click for me and now I know why. I was waiting for my new family, Mom Deb, Dad Frank and fur butt brother Sam who is like 9 but acts like about 7. He's so awesome. I think I have met my match though, cuz when he gets something in his mouth and no matter how hard I tug, I just can't get it away from him. We had great play time while they were here on Sunday. My new mom got down on the floor and played and played with me. Then her and FM talked and found out she helped her boy, Gunner cross the Rainbow Bridge the same day FM helped her Reba. I think they call that fate or something. Anyway, my new dad is great too, but Sam has been his dog and so he said he had to let mom decide. Well, once the mom's got it figured out and talked they both cried. Cripes, what's to cry about, I am getting my forever Golden family and home. My mom is already deciding what to get me for Christmas. I mean how great is that. I try not to act too excited cuz FM cries alot and says mushy things like I'll love you forever, I'm going to miss you, I can't believe you are leaving me blah blah blah. Well, I'm gonna miss her too, and Jake, Lake and the cats. I wonder if Coulter will miss cuddling with me, cuz Jake sure won't let him do that with him.

My family is coming Wednesday morning to get me so they can have the whole day and night with me. What's really cool is dad works from home alot and they have a big big yard with trails and woods and I will have an in house brother to play with every day. I know I'll miss my foster family and it will take time to adjust, but I know you wanted to go home with FM and FD when you got to your new home and now you are living the Golden Life, which is something I never thought I'd do. FM said she can't visit me til next spring cuz I have to 'adjust' to my new family. But then, I think my new mom would be willing to bring me over for a play date and swimming AND maybe Foster Mom would come too. I LOVE to swim and fetch the tennis ball in the water. Then I can meet your 3 fur butt brothers and we won't have to play in the S N O W!!! Oh thinking about snow, I'm going to have my very own boots to wear for when we go for walks on the trails. I guess Sam will only walk so far and when he gets those icy balls in his feet he just lays down and won't move, so I'm going to wear boots just like my new big brother. Cool, huh?

FM said she'd take some pics of me, my new mom, dad and Sam when they come on Wednesday. But I'm going to send some with now so you can see my new mom, dad and brother. Wow can you believe how lucky we got? We are sure lucky we got to be a RAGOM DOG, cuz they always end up finding their Golden family and home.

Last but certainly not least, I want to say thank you to my sponsors one last time. I will always be grateful for the wonderful and generous people of Ada Mae's family, Rhonda and Peggy. I have had some whopper bills and your monetary help has been unbelieveable. Rhonda, FM said I get to take my 'hog', treats etc that you sent me, to my new Forever Golden home. And yes, my family knows I can't play with "hog" to destuff it:) Whoo Hoo I have my forever home at LAST!!!

Holiday greetings to Ranger's sponsors, Ada Mae's family, Rhonda and Peggy.  Hope you got your shopping done, I haven't even started:)

I would like to thank Rhonda for the cool, soft, unique squeaking hedgehog she sent to Ranger.  He is so enamoured with it, but is only allowed to play fetch in the house with us.  We do let him 'chew' a bit, but if left alone it would be de-stuffed in 5 minutes.  Also, thank you for the joint treats, Ranger can use all the help he can get.

We've been busy with painting, playing, cleaning, well you get the picture.  Our daughter and boy friend were home for a long week end last week and so it was full house with her friends and her friends pugs, Summer and Templeton.  Ranger loved them and played nicely with them.  They were a riot to watch running around in the yard.  Just when Ranger thought he would gain on them, they would turn and chase him.  Lake was over for a while so it was really busy with dogs and people, just like we love it.

Ranger loves the snow, but the snow isn't really kind to him.  He has been a bit 'off' and quiet for himself.  I have been keeping a close eye on him and have discovered his right rear (surgery side) paw doesn't do well in the snow for too long a period.  Tonight we were out for maybe 10 minutes and he had his hind legs up in the air and one front paw....balancing on one paw.  I think his cold tolerance is a bit low and boots may be the answer.  I think the cold may be bothering his hip a bit and it's slowing him down.  He likes to nap a bit more:)

Ranger has been very good with our temp foster, Sloan 07-665.  Where Ranger goes, Sloan goes.  Jake is a bit of a grumpy old man when it comes to new dogs and especially new and friendly dogs.  But Sloan is so happy to be with the pack, and without Ranger it would have been more difficult for Sloan to adjust so quickly.  As always Ranger was the perfect host showing him the how -to's of going in and out, running in the snow, playing tug, wrestling and how to get your treat eaten before he helps finish it off.

Ranger is, as always, a joy to have around, always ready and up for a game of tug, playing, going for a car ride, you name it.  He is just starting to test the powers that be.....like if he's outside and I want him to come in, he will stand and stare at me, plop down and then just wait.  I have learned to wait him out, and with a firm 'come' he gives in and trots in.

Nothing too exciting per se, just enjoying the weather when it's a bit warmer, and having short time outs when it's really cold.  So from all of us, stay warm, and remember Ranger wouldn't mind spending his Christmas with his forever family:)

Ranger here, time for an update and foster mom seems to be too tired tonight.  First off HEY to my sponsors, Ada Mae's family, Peggy and Rhonda.  I want you to know I'm in great health and enjoying life to the fullest. I'm running, jumping off the deck (who has time to take the steps) playing tug, chasing balls and just  enjoying the cool weather.

I have a new foster brother, Bushido 07-631, and we are great playmates.  He likes to play tug and chase the ball too.  I'm faster then him, but I know he hasn't been living the good life like me, so it's not his fault.  I play almost everyday with my buddy, Lake the lab, from next door.  Foster mom says something about without serious play time I'm too ancy in the house and want her to play tug........ and to be honest she isn't that good at it.

We had another temp foster pup for a couple days.  His name is Maddox and he is a pitt mix.  Boy did we have a blast.  We ran, chased, wrestled and ran some more.  I actually got tired and had to have a nap.  He was only here a couple days then FM took him to meet his tranport person and came back with an old yellow lab who was blind and 3 black pups.  Oh boy was that fun.  They sure were fast and liked to run and jump and chase things, including me and my tail.  It was really nice out so we got play outside til FM had to take them to meet their transport lady.  I was really wore out that night.

Since we now have a fenced in area I can really play better without having to be tethered.  Almost every morning Lake comes over and we get to play until FM goes to work.  Then I rest up while she's gone and am ready to go again when she gets home.  Resident Jake isn't much into playing, Bushido was gone for a day and night, so it was kinda quiet around here.  I didn't get my play time with Lake today so am a little ancy and wanting FM to play more.

I am still trying to understand why no ones wants me.  I mean I'm a young good looking guy, get along with other dogs, cats, am house trained, love to destuff toys, not a bed hog, have good doggie manners and am a happy go lucky kind of guy.  Geesh, just cuz I had surgery and will probably need it somewhere down the line, it seems everyone is nervous about that surgery.  Well, I just keep the faith, enjoy life and will wait for my forever family to come along.  I know it will be someone who will love me, take me to obedience training (I'll probably skip a grade I'm so smart), will have a fur butt sibling for me to play with and maybe even some big kids, and they will see me for who I am and not worry about some surgery somewhere down the line.  I have so much to give and I just know someday I will have it all.  I love my foster family and all the fosters that come and go, but I sure wish I was one of the ones to be going.  My FM worries that if I stay a lot longer I will think she didn't love me and sent me away, but I know she loves me and wants for me to be happy, so I am putting a "forever family and home" for my Christmas wish.  Cuz I do believe!!

OK it's bedtime here, which means TREAT, YES!!!  So if  you are out there, reading about me, and haven't sent in  your application, now is the time to do it.  I'd like to be hanging my Christmas stocking in my forever home.  So if you are ready to meet me, please contact  Placementatragom [dot] org

Sweet dreams

Hi to Ada Mae's family, Rhonda and Peggy, my favorite sponsors.  As you can see I'm doing just fine.  In fact, I won the Halloween contest at my vet's party.  The Big Dogs just didn't have enough panache and all the little dogs looked....well, like little dogs in silly costumes.  Me, I figured my foster Dad was going hunting and maybe if I dressed up neat and left a little scent behind it would bring him luck.  It did!!  So anyway, hope you had a good Halloween and lots of kids came so you didn't have a bunch of left over candy.  Foster Mom says if enough kids don't come, she gains weight.  Not sure what that means.

So, I had to send in a pic of me and resident Jake.  He is finally trying to play with me.  Boy, for an old guy of 11 and never having lived with another fur butt, it sure takes him a long time to figure things out, but I'm doing my best to teach him.

We have a new foster brother, Bushido 07-631.  He sure is hungry all the time.  It's sad, cuz he had no one to care for him or feed him, and no one to play with, so we're trying to fatten him up and let him know it's ok to play.  Since playing and retrieving balls is my forte, he's in good hands (or paws, as it were).

Lake, the Lab, was over for a weekend sleepover while his mom and dad went hunting.  We now have a fenced in area and can run around and up and down on the deck, so we were really tired every night.  FD (foster dad) came home from hunting and told his friend a week ago the fenced in area was all grass and now it's all dirt.  Well, hello you got 4 dogs running and playing, and you thought what.....the grass would grow on the playground?

I'm doing really, really well with my hips and running, jumping off the deck, playing hard and retrieving balls, and no sign of problems with my other hip.  The vet says I'm looking good and doesn't foresee any surgery in my immediate future.  I'm hoping someone will get the hint that I'm healthy and ready for my forever home.  No one seems to remember that you can adopt a 'healthy' dog with no problems, but a couple years down the line you could be looking at something that needs surgery.  Guess it's different for humans when it's their own dog, and don't want to take a chance on a young guy like me who 'might' need surgery down the line on my other hip.  Sure hope someone will figure out they are missing out on a great boy by passing me up!

Just in case you have forgotten, I'm totally housebroken, I don't chew on inappropriate things, I love stuffed animals (to de-stuff, of course), my chew bones, playing tug with humans or other dogs, retrieving and bringing back the tennis ball and throwing it at you.  I love to wrestle, run, go for walks, greet people, cuddle and sleep on the bed by you (I'm not a bed hog), my best friend here is a cat, I'm a great host for other dogs, I get excited when you come home but don't jump up (98% of the time).  Overall, I'd say I'm a darn GReat catch.  What are you people thinking? Here I am!!

I'm accepting applications at any time.  So please contact your placement advisor or placementatragom [dot] org.

Ranger Danger the Man

Hi, just a quick note from foster mom.  I have given it a lot of thought about the best family and environment for Ranger and I've come up with the following:

Needs another dog for a playmate.  He is very social.  Needs the exercise.

A fenced yard would be pefect as it would allow him the freedom to play and stretch those long legs.

Obedience school is a must.  He knows sit, come, down, no, etc.  But needs the bonding and final touches.

Bigger kids would be great and he would be a wonderful companion.

Dog loving cats would be a plus :)

Ranger is young, full of life, settles down great in the house, loves cuddling, being scritched on top of his tail area, is funny and smart.  He is so sweet and loving.  I hope someone will come to realize what a great dog he is.  He fits in anywhere and you can take him anywhere.  If he has a fault it's that he is sure every dog he meets must love him as much he loves them.  He reminds me of my old resident, Reba.  Loves everyone, accepts all the new dogs and does his best to make them feel at home.

Ranger, here.  I am going to say HEY to my sponsors, Ada Mae's family,  Rhonda and Peggy.  I'm doing good, how you doing?

Well, let's see what is new. Mom has been doing a lot for transports for dogs and I never get to go with.  But boy when she gets home Jake and I sniff her all over.  Speaking of resident Jake, he has actually been trying to 'play'with me.  He will even give Lake, the lab next door, some run time.  FM says you are never too old to learn new things, bet  you thought I was gonna say new 'tricks'..ha got ya.

Coulter and I are still buddies, but since he wants to crawl over the bed and FM's head, he's not allowed in the bedroom at night, so we hang out during the day.  I love my cat buddy.

I am really getting into destuffing the plush toys around here.  FM says it's a good thing she buys from garage sales.  She has finally learned that marrow bones keep me busy for a long long long time.  She also discovered that I can chew up a hoove and really get some pieces off the marrow bones, so I am only allowed those goodies when we are supervised.

I was suppose to go to Canada for the long week end with the family and Jake, had my bag packed and my 'passport' ready.  But one of our cousins adopted Haley 07-513 and she get along ok with Jake, but apprently she is not ready for me:(  So instead I will go to a really neat foster who has 2 GR boyz to hang and play with.  PLUS if it works out my guest FM will take me to Chuck & Don's event on this Sat. the 20th.  So check my site to see if I'm gonna be there.

Last night we got to pick up Sadie 07-604 and bring her home.  Poor skinny little girl, she has been a stray and full of yuck, so I laid on the bathroom floor with her while FM picked off ticks.  Then she gave Sadie a bath, and finally we got to get back to playing.  By bedtime at about 2 a.m. we were shot.  We all curled up on the bed and slept all night.  But then this morning after we ate we got to play til Sadie's foster mom came to get her.

I'm doing really weel, enjoying life, people, dogs, cats....new places, old places.  Guess you could just say say I'm one of those all around nice and happy go lucky guys.  Yet no one asks about me or wants to meet me.  FM says it's cuz I will some day have to have surgery on my other hip.  Gee, I'm beginning to thing no one will ever want me, and I'm such a good boy and over all very healthy.  I do know I most likely wouldn't like to be an only fur child.  I just to love play with others too much.  I'm young and full of zip, yet when inside I settle down really well.  Maybe you all need a new angle on me.  I think I will ask my guest FM this week end to write about me after my visit.  I sure am looking forward to seeing Zach and Mason again, we met at the picnic.

Well, it's bedtime here.  We were all up pretty late last night, and tom. will be a full day.  I will be going to my guest FM tomorrow night and will be in the metro area, and hopefully at Chuck & Don's on Sat.  So come on down and meet me and my brothers and sisters in the ragom fold.  Treats, hugs and kisses welcomed.

Monday, October 8, 2007

Sorry about the lapse in updates, but I was on vacation in the metro area and stayed with 3 girls while FM & FD were in TX  Jake went to see cousin Bruno the sheppard, but I'm a RAGOM dog so I can only go to RAGOM foster homes.   But hey it was fun, well after the ladies showed me the ropes and told me the rules.  I really liked playing with Megan the Sheppard Mix.  But as with all good times, when she got tired that was the end of play time.  But a big THANK YOU to Miss Deb, Megan and Libby for taking me in.

Sure was happy to see my foster brother Jake and Sophie 06-479 (who got adopted and went to her forever home this week end).  Jake and I even played a little bit in the doggie mobile on the ride home.  Was awesome to see my buddy, Lake the lab, from next door.  Man, it seemed like forever since I'd seen him.  I did get a couple days to hang with Sophie before she left and some rest up time.

Saturday we had our very first PetCo Event here in St Cloud.  WOW there 7 other foster dogs besides me that attended.  People were oohing and aahing at us all.  We even got a visit from 2 ex RAGOM dogs that live here in town.  Sure was busy, lots of kids and people, treats, playing, well it was just exhausting.  Foster brother Jake (former ragom dog 07-349) got to come with, too.  He just went from person to person for attention.  Me I was into the people and the dogs....man I met a great golden girl named, Lucy, and we really hit it off and played.  Then Tucker 07-564 came and we played tug with my stuffed toy.  I guess not everyone has been scared off by the fact I most likely will need hip surgery on my other hip someday, cuz a couple people actually came TO SEE MOI, that's me.  I think they all thought I was handsome and playful and so good to  'give' my toys and balls up.  Sooner or later someone is gonna figure out I'm the dog for them.  Meanwhile, I'll just hang with my buds, Lake and Jake, and live the good life.

Today was easy day, had my bud, Lake, over for some play time, in and outside.  Now just hanging, so figured I'd better get an update in with some some new pictures.  AND of course a big HEY to my sponsors, Miss Ada Mae's family, Rhonda and Peggy.  I'm doing well, thanks to you all, and hope you all are having a great fall.  Happy tails and sloppy kisses to you all.

Hi, Ranger here.  Sophie 06-479 is done with her update, so figure I best get mine done so I can go out and play.  As you can see there is only picture of me, and it's with my SD girlfriend, Ms Sandi.  While she was busy doing the walk, I was busy running in the lake.  Of course no pictures as, aah someone didn't bring the camera down.  I'm sure someone at the picnic got a couple shots of me flying by, but you will just have to use your imagination; just picture a herd of Golden Retrievers and honorary GR running, jumping, chasing and barking in the lake.  I will be the one running in and out of the water and charging through the herd.  Got it?  Good hold that picture cuz that's the only one you will get of me:(

As Sophie said, not too much for big news.  We are doing our thing, playing, eating, took FM to the ragom picnic and wore myself out big time.  But FM was surprised to see I wasn't stiff and sore the next day.  I sure did sleep good though.

Since FM and FD are heading to TX for their meetings, us kidz are all heading out to go visit new and old friends.  I will be staying with a couple of  "older ladies" of the doggie persuasion in the metro area.  So if you have been thinking of hooking up and meeting with me, and haven't wanted to drive all the way to St Cloud, NOW is your chance.  I will be in the metro from Thrus. evening the 27th returning home on Thurs. Oct 4th.  Do you think my toys will still be here?  Do you think my buddy, Lake, next door will forget me?  What about Coulter the Cat, what will he do without me to cuddle with?  Boy, I hope FM knows she is really upsetting the schedule by going on this trip.  All of kidz will be in different places, do you think Sophie 06-479 or Jake (former ragom dog) will forget me?  I'm just starting to get Sophie to play with me.  Well, guess I'll just have to tough it out and get everyone back in shape when we all get home next week.

By the way, I got to see one of my sponsors, Rhonda, at the picnic.  Yep, she was there doing the walk.  I think she should have taken my FM with, she could use the exercise.  Anyway, speaking of sponsors I want to send big wet kisses and body wiggles out to Ida Mae's family and Miss Peggy.  Know that I'm doing well and enjoying life.  Just waiting for my forever home.  It's awesome people like you all that make ragom successful in helping us kidz and seniors out when we did medical help.  So THANKS!!!

Sophie just told me that Mom forgot to tell how she walked in the walk with former foster Curry (formerly Patsy, one of Josie's pups).  I didn't mind not doing the walk cuz I got to go play in the lake.  Anyway, Sophie walked and I didn't.  Big deal:)

So if you want to meet me, just contact   placementatragom [dot] org  and we can meet.

Time to go run....like in really run!!   Later

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Just a quick note on Ranger.  As you can see he is still best buds with Coulter the Cat and Lake, the neighbor lab.  They love to run and chase balls, play tug with the rope, just have fun in general.  Ranger and Coulter just like to hang out and cuddle. Ranger's life is pretty easy going.  He really has nice manners, but when he gets wound up playing he becomes a little more wild and wants to jump up and bark.  So we continually work on that.  He really is a sweet boy.  He drives TM ( the man/my hubby) nuts as he comes over to get petted, but as soon as you start to pet him, he walks forward as he wants you to scritch/rub his back end:)  What a silly boy.

We continue to do his little physical therapy session, walks up and down the stairs with a sit in between.  Some days TM just throws a stuffed toy down the stairs, Ranger walks down, gets the toy and brings it back.  TM has him sit, and they do it all over.  I think maybe TM should be walking with him, he needs the exercise worse.

Ranger and Sophie 06-479 are taking me to the RAGOM Picnic this Saturday September 22nd, so if you have been thinking about meeting this young man, now would be a wonderful time.  You can see him around other people, dogs, kids, playing and showing off his fetching skills, which are very good.

Next update, hope to have some picnic pictures of Master Ranger and friends.

Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Hi, Ranger here.  I keep telling mom to send in picture of me when I'm holding up my squeaky lamb while I'm on my back and she keeps telling me as soon as she goes to get the camera I drop the toy.  So guess you get pictures of me and my best buddy, Lake.  Since Sophie 06-479 has come the 4 of us all go out and play togeather, and the weather sure has been good to do some serious ball chasing and rope pulling.

Sophie is a great guest, now that she's done being Queen Bee!!  I think she is trying to play with me, but I'm gonna let her sit and wait and keep her guessing before I show any real interest.  Even resident Jake is trying to hang out and play with.  Must be something in the fall air.

I have learned to really retrieve the ball.  Guess having to sit out so much of the time when Jake was playing, I learned a lot.  The old dogs don't like that I'm so good cuz I can beat them to the ball.  I say the fastest dog gets the ball.  FM has put the keee-bosh on that.  She puts me on a sit, stands on my tether and hits for Jake and Sophie and then hits a ball the other direction for me.  Geez, you think the others would appreciate that I'm trying to keep them in shape and help sharpen their retreiving skills.  Some dogs just don't know a good thing when it's chasing after them!

I'm feeling good, frisky, love playing, and of course find the couch and bed a very comfy place to rest up while everyone's at work.  That way I'm ready to go when someone comes home and is ready to play ball.  I'm still favoring my right rear leg after playing, we're still doing exercises and therapy, so hopefully in time I will get over the habit of holding my foot turned under or not putting all my weight on it.  I'm good to go though.

Hey, I'll be at the picnic on the 22nd.  I get to see my SD girlfriend, Sandi, and I'm so excited.  I think I need some new cologne or something.  Anyway, come meet me at the picnic, OR if you just can't make it, we are having a PetCo even up here in St Cloud on Oct 6th.  Check out the calendar for the deails.

Not a lot of big news up here.  Just living life to the fullest.   Oh yeah, one day we, Jake, Sophie, Lake and I got to go run in the field.  Wow what a blast.  Hopefully, with the cooler weather we can do it more often.  Meanwhile, like I keep telling you all,  I'M AVAILABLE.  So if  you are finally ready to meet me, please contact  placementatragom [dot] org and ask for Ranger 07-237  Meanwhile, I'll be hanging out, playing with my buddy and giving Jake and Sophie a run for the ball.

AND I hope my sponsors will forgive my foster mom for not giving a shout out and hey, thank you, in her update.  Gee, how could she be so forgetful.  So from me to Ada Mae's family, Peggy and Rhonda THANK Y OU for being my sponsors.   Peggy and Rhonda,  did you see your picture with me at the Burnsville PetCo Event?  Wow we look good togeather:) Next to getting my new squeaky lamb, it was great meeting you.

OK bedtime, which means treat time.  Remember I'm ready to go, so come get me already!!

Friday, September 7, 2007

Hi, Ranger here.  Whew been a couple busy weeks.  Well, some of it was pretty boring as I was on "rest".  The last hoorah and am now able to play, play, play...well  you get the idea.  Sure missed playing with my buddy, Lake (lab pup next door) so we have had a couple days to catch up.  We have had a couple other ragom kids here.  Sophie 07-479 came to stay over night on her way to the cities.  Boy her and resident Jake really gave FM a work out hitting balls.  Both are crazy.  I prefer to wait til Jake has the ball then try to take it away.  No sense running all that way.  Then last week Jazzy 07-511 who is an honorary GR came to stay with us.  Whoa he really loved to play ball.  Put Sophie and Jake to shame.  He didn't have a lot of manners, but FM was sure impressed with how he could chase a ball and bring it back and 'throw it' at her.  Good thing FM uses a tennis racket.  So after a few days it was time to pack up the doggie mobile and head for South Dakota.  We left Friday afternoon and drove to Sioux Falls. We were all pretty good in the van, we would stop for some ball playing, water and potty.  Stopped in Pipestone and ate and chased balls. On to Sioux Falls where we all got to spend the night in a hotel.  They put us in a room on the first floor and close to a door.  Good thing cuz FM had to take us out separately to play ball and walk us.  FD was tired after doing all the driving.  We got to play ball in the hotel room for awhile, but Jazzy had a lot of 'pent up energy', so we got to go out and play fetch in the grassy corridor between the hotel and the eating place.  People just looked at us kinda crazy.  We finally settled down and morning rolled around and one of the ragom ladies from SF came to get Jazzy and hold him til his new foster could pick him up.  We were on a mission to get to Rapid City.

The ride to RC was long and boring without Jazzy, but we made it.  Oh, boy it was a good thing I rested up cuz when we got to our friend's house, well there it was! a fenced in yard and 5, yep FIVE dogs to play with.  And then that's when I met her.  Sandi.  She was a ragom dog and was adopted by her fosters, just like my foster brother, Jake.  Wowie, she loved all the things I do, playing with a rope, chasing balls (hey had to keep up the imagine of a retriever), destuffing toys, racing around the yard, wrestling.  What can I say, it was summer camp and she was the girl of my dreams.  OK so there were 4 other dogs, ( Chase, Rudy, Dusty and Doogan) all boys and of course foster brother Jake.  I just had sooo much fun, words can't describe it.  When I needed a rest there was always someone around to go curl up by and just get loved up.  The week end went all too fast and Tues. it was back in the doggie mobile and heading back to Mn.  When we got home Lake came over and so got to play a bit, which was good cuz I was really tired of 'riding' all day.  I sure miss Sandi, the fenced in yard and even Doogan (sp) the Deerhound, cuz Sandi and I ganged up on him and he didn't even mind.  So that was my TOTALLY AWESOME Labor Day weekend.  Sure hope you all had half as much fun as we did.  Even FM & FD seemed to be enjoying themselves, if laughing and wrestling with us dogs on the floor is any indication of a good time.  I know FM was sad to leave and snored...oops mean slept most the way home.

Sophie is coming back this week end to spend some time with us while her Foster Mom is busy.  Can't wait to show her how I can run and play now.  Boy, with Sophie and Jakie chasing balls, well guess Lake and I have our work cut out for us to chase them and try and get their ball:)

So, here I am a typical 14 month old doing all the stuff a normal 14 month old would be doing, I'm house broken, love to play, am good with dogs and cats and yet here I sit:(    Come on, I know I have had surgery, but I am pretty much recovered, and yes somewhere down the line I'll need surgery on the other hip, but gee I'm worth it.  I would love to be a big or little brother to another fur butt cuz I love to play.  I would be too lonely to be by myself all day without company. I like being with Jake and the cats.  So, now the summer is offically over, kids back in school, and I just know you have been thinking about getting that second 'kid' for  your fur butt, so how about you just contact   placementatragom [dot] org  and ask about Ranger # 07-237  I know you'd love me in a heart beat.  And besides I need to go to obedience school and I'm sure you could probably use a refresher course, so let's do it togeather.

OK gotta go and let mom get the pictures ready.  They are AWESOME, just like me.

Hi Everyone, Ranger here.  Wow, yesterday was a busy, fun filled, but long day.  I took Foster Mom to PetCo in Burnsville.  And guess what?  I got to meet 2 of my sponsors!! Yep Peggy and Rhonda both came to see me, and they both thought I was handsome and looking good!!  Sure is nice to be able to say Thank You in person to the people who cared about someone they never met, but sent money to help you out.  And even though we didn't get to meet any of Ada Mae's family, want to shout out a big THANK YOU to all of you as well.

So this PetCo event was for "Special Dogs".....well I am defintely that, don't ya think?  Then FM explained it was for those of us special 4 legged kidz that have 'special needs'.  I need someone who will want me inspite of having had surgery for hip displaysia and the fact I will need surgery on the other hip somewhere down the line.  So guess I'm a surgery special needs.  But I'm young, healthy over all, love people, kids, cats and other dogs.  So I thought maybe I should go and network a bit, test the waters and let people see how handsome and special I am. So if  you didn't get to meet me, you can always contact placement and we can talk.

Sure was alot of commotion at the event, but I got to meet so many other RAGOM dogs.  Cassie who is a puppy mill girl and needs a home with another dog to help her learn how to be a dog (I could do that:) and fenced yard so if she gets scared she doesn't run away.  And Billy, he is a handsome dude, but has siezures and has to take a pill...what's the big deal.  And I met Dixie and Sandy, the sisters that need to stay togeather cuz they are family.  I think I reminded one of them of one of her pups from all her litters, she didn't want nothing to do with me.  Laker reminded mom of her old foster, Ralph, who came to see us.  And Craig may not be all GR, but he has the personality of one.  Dusty was there, but she was pretty quiet.  There were other groups there too.  Wow so many dogs, it was fun to see everyone, but sure sad to know that we ALL are waiting for our special home.  Jack who is deaf may have lucked out.  Sure hope so cuz he's a cool old dude.  You really ought to come to these events, people, cuz you sure meet a lot of nice people and fosters.

I got so many hugs, pats, pets, scritches and treats.........I was afraid FM wouldn't feed me last night, but she broke and gave me some kibble anyway.  Jake sure was happy to see us get home as it was the first time he was left home alone since being adopted by us.  F Dad had to leave to fly somewhere.  Anyway, I sure was glad to get home and eat and just crash.

I got a new toy at PetCo cuz someone (GUS) chewed up my squeaky football.  FM wasn't paying very good attention and since Gus doesn't like all other 4 legged kidz, I couldn't get over there to get my toy back.  He's ok, just needs someone to love him, and know he might have to be any only dog. He's like Miss Bailey who was lucky enough to get paroled outta jail, I mean boarding.  Boy she loves people a lot!!  Now ME on the other hand.  I would be able to fit in with anyone, any number of dogs or cats or people.  I am an all around get along with everyone kinda guy.  Which reminds me, I think I need to remind all of you what you are missing:

I am totally house broken, and I will sit down, look at you and whine to let you know it's potty break time.
I don't chew anything but bones and de stuff toys (thus my new squeaky lamb is only for when I play w/the parents)
I get along with cats, please see Coulter the cat sitting on my head and in my kennel with me.
I like to besure Jake gets exercise (he's almost 11) and so will try to take the ball away from him.
I ride like a dream in the car, no jumping, bouncing or carrying on.
I sit and wait til I"m told I can eat.
I take my pills and treats nicely (is there any other way?)
I'm not big on sharing the bed with Jake and all, so may get up, when invited, for a short time, but prefer the floor.
I'm a great boy at the vet (and boy have I been there alot)
I am a people pleaser and FM thinks I might do well in obedience show.
I'm a tall boy, FM doesn't really know how to measure what/where so will have to wait on that:)

What I would like for a home:
Someone who will love me for me
Take me to obedience class
Keep me exercised and my weight on the thin side for the sake of my hips.
Will give me my Glucosmine and vitamins
When/if I need my other hip fixed they will have no qualms about spending the money on me and be paitent during my recovery...gotta stay quiet.
A fenced yard would be totally awesome so I could run and play.  I have had to be tethered all this time since my surgery and they don't have a fenced yard ( some people have no priorities)
I like kids, but since I'm so big and haven't been around a lot of little ones, I'm not sure how I'd do, probably good since I don't jump up on people.
I like to walk, run, chase, fetch, play tug and I really really would love having a sibling.  I love Lake next door (the 7 month old lab pup) and we get along so well. I wouldn't not want to live with you if you didn't have a sibling for me, as long as you exercise me well and give me a lot of one on one and have play dates with other dogs and maybe visit the dog parks....I love to play and run, remember.
FM says I'm a people pleaser, food motivated, so guess I like to do things for treats.
FM has her own type of 'clicker training' going for me.  If I go out on my tether and don't want to come back she just squeaks one of the squeakers (that I took out of one of the toys) and I come a running.
I give up what I'm asked to, so should I ever, and I do mean IF, I ever have something I shouldn't,  I'd give it up
I love marrow bones and do not guard it and you can take it away with no problems.
AND I prefer to have my back surgical area scritched more than my ears and head.  Just an FYI for you

Well, I think I've covered a lot of info here, hopefully you can think about meeting me.  All you have to do is contact Placementatragom [dot] org  and they will get in touch with my family.  I know you may be concerned about my hips, surgery down the line, arthritis etc., but hey no one got rid of Foster Mom and she has had shoulder/knee surgery and has arthritis, guess Foster Dad saved up to fix her up and you could plan ahead for me.

Sure hope this clears up any questions you have had about me.  I'll be waiting to hear from  you.  I will be vacationing in the Black Hills of South Dakota from Sept 1 through Sept 4th.  Yep, me and Jake and the folks are going to stay with another RAGOM foster family and they will watch us boyz while the folks go to a wedding on the 3rd.  They have 5...yep FIVE dogs and fenced in yard.....can you say heaven?  And best of all my restricted time is up.......yiiiipppeee play time!!   So if you are looking to spend the last long week end of summer with me, better get in touch.

Oh, just so you know, I am so ready for my own Forever Home and Family.  Are you ready for me?

Wiggle butt good byes

A new Petco toy!

Ranger continues to be a sweet boy, but we've discovered if there is a new dog here to teach him something new....say like chewing all the toys apart....he catches on very fast:)  We had an over night transport here and he introduced Ranger to the fun of taking balls, any kind of ball, and chewing it apart.  He failed to mention to Ranger he was NOT to eat the pieces.  So now we keep a very close eye on Master Ranger and his toys.

Ranger is back on 'rest' thus no playing with Lake, the lab pup from next door.  Ranger lays out in the 'grass' and gazes across the yard to Lake, who is in his kennel gazing at Ranger:(  So sad as they are such buddies.  We are waiting to hear the results of the next xray reading on Ranger's hip to decide what the next step will be.  Meanwhile we continue with the physical therapy and have added helping him to put weight on right leg as it's natural to lose some muscle mass and we need to try and strengthen his muscles.  He is such a good boy and lets us do everything without a problem.

Friends were over last Saturday with their year old female black lab, Maya.  Oh what a good time was had just being in the pool and house.  We allowed a little play time as long as there was no jumping and real rough housing.  Ms Maya showed him that girls can hold their own.  We look forward to the time Ranger can play unrestricted as he sure has a lot of new friends.

We have convinced Ranger it is ok to eat next to Jake.  While resident Reba was still with us, the foster dog would eat next to her in front of the stove.  When we have 2 fosters, the newest one would eat in the dining area of the kitchen.  So it was time to move Jake over and bring Ranger in.  It took a couple times and some convincing, but all is well at meal time.

Coulter, our black/white cat, loves the dogs, but especially Ranger.  As you can tell by the picture he likes to get in the crate with Ranger and give him a bedtime 'massage'.  So far he hasn't tried it with Jake 07-349, but will rub up against Jake when given the opportunity by Jake.  Meanwhile Ranger and Coulter are buddies.

Hopefully, in the next week will know exactly what the next step with Ranger be, when he will be able to be adopted etc.  Meanwhile, he's hanging out, getting bored and over all being a good boy.  He still has full roam of the house, has never had an accident and continues to listen fairly well.  One exception is if he manages to sneak away from us before we get him clipped, and if Lake is outside, Ranger is gone in a flash to Lake's kennel looking for him.  He really is an easy and loveable foster.  And he still loves to 'bug' Jake, which to Ranger is just playing.

I'd like to send another huge THANK YOU to Ranger's sponsors, Ada Mae's family, Peggy Moriarity and Rhonda Von Mosch.  I wish you could see how far Ranger has come, how happy he is, playful, and how he loves to give kisses.  Soon the day will come when a very special family will give Ranger his forever home, and that day will be possible in part due to your generous donation for his vet care.  He so deserves to be pain free, running with abandon and playing til he drops.  And just as you remember Ranger, we remember you all and your act of kindness.

Master Ranger continues be a great source of fun and love.  His xrays showed the hip surgery was successful, but it may have resulted in a fracture in the pelvis area.  We will update as we know.  We are now on hold in regard to a decision on the other hip.  Meanwhile he still favors his right rear leg, but not to the point of not running and playing.  We do have to monitor the little bugger's antics, as with all 'kidz', he will ignore common sense and play til in pain.  He enjoys the company of Master Lake, the golden lab pup from next door, and they are fast friends.  We make sure they get play at least 3 times a day.  They both love playing tug, chasing anything that moves and especially the wading pool.  It has been fun to watch Lake as he continues to grow and become stronger and run like the wind and give Ranger some competition.

Ranger continues to be a wonderful, loving, well mannered boy.  He still greets me each day after work with his entire back end wiggling and wagging. Then runs for his green teddy or whatever is handy, and then continues to wiggle and "whine/cry" out of pure joy.  No matter the work day and problems, he always makes me smile and I can't resist just kneeling down and loving him up.

We have discovered that when one of us goes next door to get Lake to play, Ranger feels it's his job to "cheer" Lake on....to run over as fast as he can.  In other words whether on the deck or on his tether, Ranger barks until his buddy is here to play.

Ranger's favorite toy is one that came from Ralph's (07-951) new mom and dad.  A squeaky basketball with bright red cloth hanging out both sides. He loves to throw it, chase it, squeak on it and roll on his back and play with it by holding it with his paws, and of course play keep away with Lake.  Many is the day Ranger's squeaking alerts Lake to the fact Ranger is out and it isn't long before the two of them are gazing across the expanse of grass with soulful eyes waiting for me to give in, get Lake and then wait out the play period.  Is it no wonder I'm never to work before 10:00 a.m.?

Ranger knows to sit, shake, lay down, no, come and stay.  When we are the deck I leave one deck gate unlocked so Jake 07-349 can run and chase tennis balls and push the gate open to get back up.  Ranger knows he must stay on the deck and if he thinks maybe not....a simple "stay, Ranger" suffices. He is less accomodating on the come when he is on tether on the lawn playing with Lake.  So now when I call and get no response I trudge down and grab the tether, call come and give a tug.  Usually it means I have 2 puppies that will come then.

Ranger still amazes me in so far as he chews on nothing inappropriate.  He has graduated to sleeping in the bedroom and is free in the house while we are gone.  I think maybe we can put that huge Mastiff cage back in the living room and gain a few extra square feet of space back in the kitchen. I will keep it available in case he feels he wants to go in.  But he is now to the point he goes up and down the stairs and wanders the house.  The first few times I invited him upstairs he just wasn't sure.  Now at bedtime as Jake runs up, Ranger isn't far behind.

Last but not least, a couple weeks ago we went to the lake and Ranger loved it.  He swam after balls, sticks, Jake, me....pretty much anything that was worth going for.  I had forgot my camera, but we'll be going again and I promise pictures from that trip.  To say he was tired after a day at the beach is an understatement.  But I can safely and truthfully say he is a water dog.

We should know the next step for Ranger next week and when he will become available for adoption.  To get a year old pup who is house broken, minds pretty good and isn't a chewer...they don't come along that often. Obedience school, love, patience and his own family will complete the golden life for this sweet and loving boy.

I had to go to Texas for about 5 days, so TM was left with the boyz.  They were so spoiled with having moist food on their dry and Ranger was gaining weight...and we were told he could not gain anymore.  So while I was gone foster dad got finished up with the moist and by the time I got home, it was back to dry kibble and when it was put down, it was all eaten. Whenever I can't do something, TM steps in and gets 'er done:)  Plus he took care of Lake over the week end, so he done good!!

To Ranger's sponsors, again, we cannot begin to find the words that could possibly convey how much we appreciate your sponsorship, your caring, your love for our little boy.  He sends his best....which would be a wiggly butt, happy cry, squeaking toy to say THANK YOU!!

Ranger has made me promise to get back to timely updates.  I will do my best.  Please see personal note below.

_Foster Mom and the Crew _

** On a personal note**

I apologize for the lack of updates in the last couple of weeks.  For anyone who has read my updates over the last couple years, you know Resident Reba, our senior Golden girl was always a part of the foster activity and welcoming committee.  On July 9th at almost 15 years of age we helped Reba to the Rainbow Bridge.  I am grateful for all the years she was my confidante, helper and shrink. There was never a person or dog that didn't love her and her gentle ways. We are grateful for the  help with the puppy mill girls, puppies, all the love and acceptance she gave to each and every foster dog that came through our home.  While she is missed by us, we are happy she is now running free, chasing rabbits, gophers and chipmunks.....and waits for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

Today was Ranger's first birthday!!  What better birthday gift than finding out you have two....yes two new sponsors.  Ms Peggy Moriarty and Ms Rhonda Von Mosch.  Ladies,  I am sure you know what good company you are in with Miss Ada Mae and your sponsorship.  Ranger is a very, very lucky young man.  Yes, we have to call him a young man since he is now officially 1 years old.  He is sending you hamburger and ice cream breath kisses to you both.  This week or next he will be going in for his 6 week check up.  Now that will be some exciting news to look forward to.  Thank you, Ladies, for specifically picking Ranger.  We all are honored to be sponsored by 2 lovely ladies and Miss Ada's family.

So, today was the big day.  To celebrate we had fresh pool water,( someone peed in it yesterday...no names) a couple new toys, a little play time with Lake from next door, Culver hamburgers for dinner and real ice cream....no frosty paws to be found around here.  I think they all did a wonderful job posing and waiting patiently for their goodies.  Typically Master Ranger wanders around, eats a bit, wanders...you get the pic.  Tonight we went out on the deck, gave them a 'taste' of the hamburger and then put the rest in their food bowls.  Talk about chow down time.  Ranger even had to check everyone else's bowl to make sure there was nothing left over.  Later it was ice cream time. Poor Ranger, I forgot his bowl that goes in the stand slides....so he was really working and chasing that ice cream bowl around.  Then I took him for a little walk around the yard, just the 2 of us.  Plus a little one on one playtime, though Jake 07-349 wasn't thrilled to be left in the house.  The furr is growing in on the back of Ranger's butt, haunch and top of his back and  he just loves to have you scritch and scratch where all that new hair is coming in.  That's better than scratches behind the ears!!

Ranger is such a typical 1 year old.  He wants to play tug, throws his toys in the air, chases a ball......ok not really chases...but will lope over to get the ball or squeaky toy.  He is in heaven when it's hot out and will go into the wading pool and just lay down and look at you like..'yep this is the place to be'.  He is such a good boy, never chews on anything inappropriate, but is so tall that he can rest his chin on the tables.  He loves Coulter and they hang out when Coulter is willing to come and do so.  Ranger loves everyone one, every dog, every cat.....he is just so sweet natured.  We really look forward to the time he will be able to run and play.  Those long legs are going to eat up some serious ground.

Ranger has been in the dining area of our kitchen with free roam of that room, hall, laundry room and bathroom.  His cage door is always open and when he is tired he goes in for his nap.  If I feel he is getting too roudy I will tell him to kennel and in he goes I close the door and never a peep.  He usually just lays down and cuddles with his moose and bright green teddy bear.  There is a foam pad in there with a blanket and he has never chewed it.  He really prefers to sleep in the kitchen and be by his kennel.  Friday night we had an over night guest that I was transporting on Saturday.  Since we really didn't know alot about him, I crated him and brought Ranger upstairs to the bedroom.  This is the 2nd time he slept in the bedroom and he doesn't care for it.  He whined a few times and went to the door to get out and go back downstairs, but I was afraid that the two of them would get roudy and start barking. Eventually he settle down and slept all night.  It's just so strange to have a dog NOT want to be in the bedroom with you.  The crate and kitchen area is definetley his safe place.

I am proud of Ranger in that he keeps trying to engage Jake 07-349, foster brother, in play.  There are those moments that it almost looks like Jake is enjoying it.  IF anyone can get Jake to play it will be Ranger.  But just as many times he bugs poor Jake too.  He loves to walk after him around and around the deck table when Jake has the tennis ball.  He doesn't really want the ball, it's just the "chase".   He is such a loving young guy, and after seeing him with our neighbors 2 year old grandson, I feel when the time comes for Ranger to find his forever home, it should be with older and taller children.  He is a tall boy and still puppy, so when he plays it's easy for him to knock little ones over.

OK, I'm sending too many pictures, and whatever doesn't get used this round will resend for your viewing pleasure.  Which what this young guy is, a real pleasure to have.

From Ranger:  To Peggy and Rhonda, thank you both so much for sponsoring me.  People don't realize that even splitting a sponsorship is a huge thing for someone like me and ragom.  Boy, talk about your million dollar baby.....well ok maybe not that much, but my doctor bills are pretty high.  Without RAGOM and sponsors like you and Miss Ada's family, there would be less monies for other kidz like me, or even our seniors who need medical attention to help make their lives more enjoyable and pain free.  Just wait til you see pictures of me when I get to stretch these legs out, you're gonna see one happy boy.  This sure was a great birthdy and the best part was knowing you two ladies thought of me.  Thank you, puppy  kisses and one big high five!!

Ranger here...whew it sure has been hot and I love the wading pool.  FM throws things in there and I gingerly step in and retrieve, like this hoof.  I love to get a rope or toy and shake it up, no one will play tug with me yet.  But I know my time is coming.  Meanwhile I hang out with my buddy, Coulter the Cat.  Hey he's cool and as long as Jake 07-349 isn't near by to interfere we're good.

I have been making a real effort to get Jake to play, but no luck so far. For some reason he isn't into me walking around behind him and trying to get the tennis ball from him or try to get him to play tug.  But sometimes he will come up and act like he wants to play.  But hey I make my own fun.

It's been almost a month since my surgery and I'm doing really good.  FM is still doing that exercise thing with my foot, leg and hip, but now I don't mind and let her do it with no fuss.  I am kinda persnickety in my eating lately.  Resident Reba got some new food and I think I should have it.  But no I get the same old stuff even with moist to try and get me to eat.  Hey, a guys gotta try and get all the good stuff.  In a couple more weeks I'll go in for my check up and see how things are progressing.  Hopefully, hopefully we'll be talking some walks at least.

FM says I'm the best pup.  If someone leaves the gate on the deck open I will wander over, but if they aah no, Ranger, I stay.  I love being on the deck playing, wading in the pool and then stretching out for some zzzzzz's.  I respect the baby gates and I never fuss about having to go into my crate.  Infact I really like my crate.  I go in there when I'm tired to lay on my double cushioned bed and cuddle with my stuffed moose or teddy.  I like my freedom to be able to sleep on the rug int he kitchen or hallway as I can really stretch out with this goofy collar on. I do get it off when the foster parents are around, otherwise I just stick my head in when FM says come and holds the collar out.  I love it when someone rubs/scratches where I got shaved and the hair is growing in, feels mighty good:)

Today I had my first bath.  UGH!!  Was not thrilled with that let me tell ya.  But being we were on the deck I really didn't have many places to hide.  But I wasn't snarly or growly or snapping.  I took it all like a good boy.  FM says my coat looks so much better and something about finally getting the "surgery smell" off my coat.  I thought I smelled fine. Who knew.

You know life is pretty good.  A great place to hang out with my buddy Coulter.  A/C when it's hot outside, food, toys, treats, lotza love, scritches, pets, pats and attention, now if only I could retrieve that darn ball they keep throwing for Jake.....I know my time will come.  Meanwhile I'm being the best boy I can and hopefully will get the go ahead sign to be able to start looking for my forever golden home. You know I will be one years old on July 1st.  Where did the year go?    I heard FM say something about special for me on my big day.  I'll let ya know what happened.

I want to say hi to the "H" family, my sponsors.  I want you to know I am being a good guy and minding my manners, cuz I sure wouldn't want  Miss Ada Mae to think I didn't appreciate all her family is doing for me.  All of us up here are very very grateful for all your help and support and know I'm sending a tail wagging, gentle kisses THANK YOU to you all.  Stay tuned for my updates.

Hey, it's me Ranger.  Thought it was time you saw me as the pup I am.  Foster Mom and Dad ( FM & FD) say I have some really long legs and once I can use my back leg again, it will be interesting to see just how fast I can go.  I am feeling much better, maybe a bit too much cuz I sure want to play.  I now bring toys to the foster parents with my whole body shaking and I do this happy puppy whine.  When we are on the deck they will sometimes roll a ball a few inches and let me get it.  Boy, I sure would like to show them how good I can retrieve.  I have tried to show them I like to play "tug", but FM says that is a no no.  Guess FD forgot for minute cuz he sure hung on tight to the other end of the tug rope.  Boy he got in trouble for that.  When no one will play with me, I just pick up a rope and give a good shake....ok a lot of good shakes.  They keep saying something about me being a typical puppy and playing like one.  Boy, if only I could. But I'm a couple weeks in to recovery, have my stitches out and FM is rubbing Vitamin E on my scar.  Why?  Who's every gonna see it!!  I am not overly fond of my "physical therapy", but it means couch time, one on one time with FM and a big treat after.....so guess it's worth it.

I am past my being a big baby about Jake 07-349 being here and am back to eating and taking my vitamins again.  I feel so good I'm only on 25 mg of Rimadyl now and I think my tummy feels better so I feel like eating.  Best part is I get to have free roam of the kitchen, hall, laundry and bathroom during the day and at night as long as I wear my collar nicely and don't get crazy.  Sure is nice to have some room to stretch my legs and get a drink when I want.  AND I have not had any accidents in the house.  Pretty good huh?

You know one of the reasons I wanted to write myself tonight is to tell you about a very, very special family.  The "H" Family is my sponsor.   There is a wonderful and yet  sad story behind the "H" family's sponsorhsip.   It's all about Miss Ada Mae, a very loved Mother. and more.   Miss Ada Mae was a vet tech for over 30 years.  She loved animals, had her own GR boyz over the years and many is the time she would bring home a poor soul who would have gone to the Rainbow Bridge had it not been for her. Miss Ada Mae was a one woman rescue all by herself.  She must have been a great lady and loved alot by many humans and many, many 4 legged friends. On April 28th (puppy mill rescue day)  Miss Ada Mae went to the Rainbow Bridge to meet all her friends that have been waiting for her.  I'm sure the wait was long for many, the welcoming group huge and the reunion joyful.  Miss Ada Mae was so loved  and many sent memorials in honor of her.  Well, her wonderful and generous family took those memorials and sent them to RAGOM to help ME get my hips fixed.  What an honor to be chosen by the "H"  family in memory of such a great lady.  Miss Ada Mae must be so proud of her family to do such a wonderful thing, helping with my huge vet bills.  I can't tell you how proud I am to have this honor and I want the "H" Family to know that my Foster Mom cried when she read about your Mom and the very, very generous donation you sent to help me live a pain free life.  If I was a girl, FM would change my name to Ada Mae, I know she would.  I can only tell you what a happy boy I am, how much better I feel, I don't cry when I stand up anymore, and I promise to be the best boy I can to honor Miss Ada's memory.  I'm sending you my whole body happy wiggle, big kisses and happy whines to say THANK YOU so much for being so kind and generous.

Ranger, the lucky pup.

From Ranger's foster mom:  Words can never convey the feelings of gratitude for your lovely homage to your mother and the most generous of hearts to give so lovingly and generously.  Please know it is appreciated and we send you the Golden Paw award for your kindness. You have truly touched my heart and it says a great deal about the kind of woman your Mother was.  I think the pictures say alot about how well Ranger is doing.

I am sorry for the delay in updating Master Ranger.  It has been busy around here, at work and as of Monday, Jake 07-349 joined us.  Ranger was excited to meet Jake, but Jake wasn't interested.  As Ranger feels better he wants to play and it's still a no no.

Ranger had his hip stitches remeoved last week, but the small incision on the backbone of his butt area isn't quite healed, thus he continues to wear his collar when he is not around us.  He has graduated to having his kennel door open at night and while we are at work.  This allows him the dining area of the kitchen, hall, bath and laundry room.  The laundry room is his favorite.  Don't know why.  This gives Ranger a chance to walk and stretch his legs during the day and really enjoy laying somewhere besides his crate.  You only have to  tell Ranger to kennel up, in he goes and when it times to put the e-collar back on he actually leans his head into it.  The crate has become his safe place in the sense when he is tired or wants quiet, that's where he goes.

The really funny thing about Jake's arrival is that Ranger's nose got bent out of shape.  All of sudden he wouldn't eat, take a treat or his vitamins.  While at the vet today with Jake, he would take food from Dr Nancy....the stinker.  So based on that we figured he just needed some one on one time with foster mom.  So tonight we went out on the deck just the 2 of us.  Went for a little walk around the back yard, then in and down to the family room.  As you can see by the pictures he likes to hide behind the couch pillows.  Coulter felt the need to "massage" his head and Ranger was fine with that.  He finally let me put the heating pad on, exercise his leg and then use the cold pack.  Figured since he was so relaxed maybe he would eat, so got his food and hand fed him a bit until he would eat out of the bowl (laying on the couch of course).  I even got him to take his vitamins tonight.  So guess our little boy needs a little 1 on 1 with mom and some cuddle time on the couch. I left the old kidz upstairs and that seemed to make Ranger feel pretty special, which he is.

Ranger enjoys the wading pool on the deck.  Lake, the 4 month old lab from next door, ran over to say hi tonight (without permission:(  Ranger was so excited to see him through the gate on the  deck and wanted to play so bad.  We let Lake come up for a few minutes so they could just sniff and wag tails togeather.  What great playmates they would make.  I'm hoping by next week we can increase the walk around the yard time.  He defintely is getting ancy.

This is one sweet cuddle bug of a boy and will make a wonderful family addition when he is ready to be adopted.  He is long legged, shorter hair and a wonderful disposition....as I think he has proved by allowing Coulter on his head:)

Keep watching for Ranger updates on his progress.

Sweet Ranger has been with us for about 11 days.  He is coming out of his "shell" if you could call it that.  For a puppy who was free to run most of the day, being confined to a kennel about 22 hours a day is really tough.  We take him out in the morning for potty and a bit of a walk about.  Then in to eat and little free roam time in the kitchen or a little quiet time on the deck.  He loves to just lay out there and watch the birds.  If the other dogs are out playing he paces too much and whines wanting to join in:(   Before I leave for work I take him out one more time.  After work is pretty much the same schedule.  After his early evening rest I carry him down stairs to lay on the couch with me so I can put the heating pad on his hip, exercise the leg and then put a cold pack on it.     He loves to just lay there and cuddle.

Ranger is fine with the cats.  In fact Coulter will walk right up to him and rub against his legs.  He is so friendly and comes to anyone for pets and lov'n.  Loud noises make him look, but he doesn't try to "escape" anywhere.  He is eating good, but we have to watch that he doesn't gain any weight as he recovers from surgery.  He still babies the leg and if he gets stiff he will cry/whine when he first gets out of the crate or if we are outside too long he will just sit and rest a minute.

He has the greatest kidneys and can easily go 8 + hours.  Even when free in the house ( he's only allowed on the main floor and no stairs) he has never had an accident.  He will not drink alot of water until he knows you are home and then he tanks up and has to go out.

We had to use a leash and help him stand up to get out of the crate for a while, but he is now  ready and willing to go.  You ask him if he wants to go out, open the door and he comes right out.  Off with the silly cone collar, snap on the leash and he's ready to go sniff and enjoy some quiet time in the grass.  He has figured out that coming back in means going back to the crate.  This he is not too fond of, so a treat is used to help convince him it's a good thing.  In he goes and he doesn't fight having the cone collar put on.

He can be stubborn when he has a leash on.  We can be walking around and if he decides to stop or doesn't want to come in, he plops right down and won't move.  At this point I've learned to just bend down and use that baby voice and call him and he comes.  He also will not budge to go in if he still needs to do some serious business.  We walk a bit, he does it and then is willing to come in.

The pictures do not show how tall he is.  I am hoping to get a picture of him next to the fur butt nephew, Bruno the German Shepard.  It'll give you an idea.  Very long legged, long neck and a shorter coat.  He is a licker of the had, just like he wants to tell you he loves you and please love him back.  He wants to play with Bruno or Lake, the 4 month old lab puppy next door.  It's so sad to watch him watch Bruno and Lake play out in the yard.  This morning while Ranger and I were out on the deck he picked up a "yarn ball" and threw it at me...about broke my heart knowing he wanted to play.  He isn't one for chew toys or toys in general, but I have a feeling a ball is another story.  But for another month we won't be finding out.

Stayed tuned for further updates on this sweet boy.  If you have been wanting to help out in some way but can't foster or transport, we can always use sponsorships for these sweet kidz who need surgery to live a better life.  Ranger would be happy to send you an autographed  picture if you would like, or puppy kisses and big tail wags.
