Original Bio, October 2015:
Remington is a handsome 9 year old purebred neutered male Golden Retriever who came to RAGOM from an outdoor life on a farm. He has been with us for 2 weeks and had never lived in a house before coming into RAGOM. He has had no formal obedience training. Remington is up to date on his shots, in good health and weighs 77 lbs.Life is very different now for Remington since he moved away from the farm. Everything is new and sometimes scary for this country boy. Things like the garage door, vacuum and rake can frighten him. As he learns that he is safe and loved, he will gain more confidence around new things.Remington still loves to be outside, so when he wants to get fresh air, I put him on a tie out since I don't have a fenced yard. He has not been dog, cat or kid tested yet, but is very friendly and appears to be starved for attention. He rushes to meet anyone he sees and can be overbearing in his need for affection. Remington sleeps soundly through the night in my bedroom with a gate blocking the doorway. Rem loves his stuffed toys and tries to destsuff them to find the squeaker. I don't think he ever played with toys before he became a RAGOM dog. Remington doesn't pull when walking on a leash because he wants to be right near his humans. He also doesn't try to chase squirrels or other furry creatures. For that reason, I think he would do fine with or without a fenced yard at his forever home.Housebreaking Remington has been a challenge because I haven't been able to read any signs that he has to go out. He will have accidents in the house unless I let him out every two hours. I will continue to work on house training him. His forever home will need to commit to getting him on a schedule and perhaps crate training him as if he were a puppy.Remington had never been in a car before his transport to his foster home but he sure loves car rides! He is very happy and well behaved, but don't stop to do errands unless you plan to take him in the store with you! He'll bark non-stop if you leave him in the car alone. Going into a lake was a new experience for Remington, but we found out he loves it! He hasn't learned to swim yet but likes wading in the water. He was a bit nervous on his first boat ride, but all smiles the second time out. He wasn't sure why ducks were on the lake so he growled at them and tried to scare them away.
Remington is a shy, sweet dog and will need a family who has the patience and time to work with him to help him feel secure in his new life. His new family will also need to give him all the love and attention he desires. He will continue to need socialization with new people and exposure to new things to help him becomea confident, happy member of the family.
