I would like everyone to meet Root Beer! She is as sweet as her name. She is a beautiful 69-pound, four-year-old, purebred Golden Retriever with lots of energy. She is now up-to-date on her vaccines, her fecal test was negative, her heartworm test was negative, and she is on heartworm preventative and Frontline Plus. The vet was a little surprised by her age and said she acts like a four-year-old puppy. This being said, we have been working on some manners. She does like to jump up on you to greet you or when she gets excited with playing. She also will try to be a lap dog and will try to paw and give you kisses in the face. She does take correction well and just don't understand how big she is! She just wants to be loved and as close to you as possible.

She does prefer the couch and the bed, but gets down when told. She is housebroken and has not had one accident in the house. She hasn't been in a crate here and has free roam when we are gone. She does not counter-surf or chew on anything inappropriate. She has no health issues except for her tummy will get a little red from allergies, the vet thought maybe from laying in the grass. Her previous home had a physical fence, as do I, so this is preferred, but not required.

Root Beer lived with a two-year-old child in her former home and got along fine. She does like to get a little "mouthy" when playing and will put your hand or arm in her mouth, but is very gentle and listens to "no" when told. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and just wants to play.

I don't have any cats, but her previous owner states she has no issues with them and we saw a cat at the vet with no problems. Root Beer would LOVE another dog her size to play with. I have two small dogs and her size and type of play intimidates them at times. She would also be fine as the only dog with an active person or family. Root Beer pulls a little on a leash and we have been working with a Gentle Leader. It is a work in progress. :) Root Beer has no guarding with food or toys with humans, but has let out a warning growl to my dogs with a bone or tennis ball. She has never shown any further aggression than that, though.

With a little training, anybody would be lucky to have this sweet girl. She is eager to please, eager to love, and eager to PLAY! If you think you could be Root Beer's forever home, please contact your placement advisor!!

Root Beer is doing great! We did visit the vet for her red and itchy ears. She has yeast in her ears. The vet said this could be caused by a food allergy, so we are trying a grain-free food. I also got some medicine for her ears and hopefully they will be cleared up soon!

I do feel Root Beer would like a quieter home. She does not like when my dogs bark and will whine and come over by me when they do. Also, if my kids are too loud, she will leave the area.

She does enjoy going on car rides! She jumps right in and sits down. She is an excellent passenger.

She loves getting out of the house and will get a little stir-crazy if we have a lazy day! After a walk or throwing tennis balls in the yard, though, she is content and will lay by your feet or beside you on the couch. Root Beer just loves attention and her humans! She is a Velcro dog with me and will follow me from room to room. Once she sees what I am doing, she will go lay down close by.

She is an absolute sweetheart!!! Rootbeer has a couple coming to meet her August 30th! Keep your fingers and paws crossed that they love her as much as I do!!

Root Beer is settling in well. My resident dogs are starting to feel more comfortable, as long as she isn't too rambunctious. She is getting a little better on the leash and we tried the Gentle Leader again. After throwing a fit for a few minutes, she did settle down and walk nicely. This continues to be a work in progress. We have never kenneled Root Beer and she had never got into anything, but yesterday, she did show her displeasure with me being at work and then leaving again to go and get school supplies by chewing apart a full Kleenex box all over the living room floor.

She no longer sleeps in the bed with FD and me. She will sleep on the floor beside me, but as soon as she sees FD up and getting ready for work, she will jump up and lay in his spot. ;) She does continue to think she is a lap dog and enjoys cuddle time.

I have been using an antifungal/antibacterial solution on her tummy and ears due to her having some redness and itching in her ears. She also has a little yeast on her tummy. I will be keeping a close eye on her ears to make sure they don't get infected.

Root Beer loves her tennis balls and enjoys playing fetch in the backyard. She is also pretty good at catching it in the air when you throw it up. :) We have been working on basic commands. She will sit. We are making some progress with "down" and her jumping. She will need patience and training as she does have a lot of puppy-like behavior, but she is sweet as sweet can be, and eager to please.

Root Beer has a couple coming to see her Saturday! Anyone would be lucky to have this sweet girl! Wish her luck!
