I would like everyone to welcome Roscoe 13-072 to the Ragom family. We don't know much about Roscoe, he came from a good Samaritan who tried to find his family but could not.

Roscoe a golden mix, is in good health and was well taken care of except for his teeth. There are no major issues he is just losing some, we are using the dental treats we get from the vet for our dog and it is helping some but the vet said a couple will fall out soon.

The vet believes Roscoe is about 7 and gave him a new birthday of of March 8th. Roscoe is a sweet heart and not hard to care for. He has free roam of the house and will only come up on the furniture if invited. He is just so happy for attention, he will head bump you when he wants some attention, he likes belly rubs.

I believe he thinks he has never been fed and never will again because of the amount of excitement when we tell him it is time to eat. The entire time he is eating his tail and butt are wiggling all around and the tail is thumping off the cabinets or dishwasher, it is so cute to watch. He also thinks going outside is a great thing and we are learning some manners about not pushing the other dog out of the way to get out the door.

Here are some things we have learned about Roscoe.

  • He is fine with cats, pretty much ignores our 2. Our kitten even grabbed his nose the other day and he didn't do anything.
  • He gets along with other dogs and has no food guarding issues.
  • He is house broken and has had no accidents.
  • He has free roam of the house, when we are home and away.
  • He knows some basic commands, sit and stay. He also will walk behind me on the stairs if I am going first. He will not try to go around me.
  • He will bond with you quickly, I met him first and he took a while to bond with my husband since he works overnights and Roscoe didn't see him much his first few days here.

Roscoe has the cutest ears. They are big dumbo type ears on him although anytime I try to get a picture of him holding them out he puts them back against his head.

He is going to be a great dog for some family!

Roscoe and I found each other over two years ago and I have been terribly delinquent in updating anything.  Cyd R. was Roscoe’s fabulous foster along with a couple of wild fur siblings.  He is an only child now and I believe prefers it that way.  It took him awhile to engage with the other dogs in the dog park.  The first couple of times he would only stand by me and whine.  He is much better now, but keeps a close eye on me to make sure I don’t sneak off without him!  And honestly, he interacts more with the humans than with most of the dogs.  He completed Level 1 obedience and I think he was the star of the class.  Of course, there were only two dogs in the class!  The other was a rambunctious 4 month old yellow lab puppy that Roscoe wanted nothing to do with.  Those nipping puppy teeth got on his last nerve!  Anyway, I have become more involved with RAGOM doing home visits with Roscoe (he is loved by everyone; minds his manners with cats, loves humans of all ages and generally is great with other dogs), and have started doing transports.  Being somewhat on the “inside” makes me appreciate even more the work that goes into every rescue and adoption.  As always, thanks to everyone who brought this goofy, loveable, counter-surfing boy into my life.  If you are reading this, Cyd, Roscoe now loves to go for car rides and camping up north every chance he gets.

Roscoe is really just waiting around for his forever home. He is happy, healthy, peppy, mellow, and sweet. He weighs 63 lbs so is not a big dog. He walks nicely on a leash and is a wonderful companion.

Roscoe is not a huge fan of riding in the car so he whines a little. He does however love to go places.

There is no reason not to snap up this dog. Don't let his age bother you. He is estimated at between 6 and 8, but he is very peppy.

He is totally housetrained, and has free run of the house when we are not home. This is the dog you want if you want all of the love and companionship and none of the drama of a younger dog.

Roscoe really just wants someone who wants a companion as much as he does.
