Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
3/8/2014 Required Age 10+ Required Not tested
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Here's Ruby!!! She is a beautiful 4 1/2-year-old dark red Golden Retriever fostered in Inver Grove Heights, MN.

She came from a breeder in South Dakota. She has been with me for about a week now. She is up-to-date on her shots, healthy except for an ear infection and a few bad teeth. She will be getting spayed and have two teeth removed this week.

Ruby was not socialized, so she comes with some fears like many dogs with her background.
She is doing well at going outside and coming back in.
She is doing all her business outside.
She is eating in her crate when we are not watching her.
She is a pacer, walking back and forth, not yet comfortable enough to get pets or lay down outside of her crate.
She is making good progress and I will continue to work with her. She gets along with the other dogs in the house, but has not engaged with them.

Ruby has come a long way in a short time. Please check back soon to see her progress!

Ruby will need a fenced-in yard, a medium- to large-sized dog to help her learn, and no small children in her forever home. If you would like to meet Ruby, please contact your placement advisor! I will update again soon as we learn more about this beautiful girl!!!

Ruby was adopted today and has gone to her new home! She was not with me very long, just 4 short weeks. She learned a lot in that short time! She learned to start to trust people and that it is OK - in fact, great - to have people touch her. She still has a ways to go and her new family will help her with this!

I always say that the longer they are with us, the deeper they make their way into our hearts! Little Miss Ruby has proven me wrong. A short stay with me and she is just as loved as if she had been here her whole life.

A big THANK YOU to Jodi for loving Ruby and giving her a forever home! I know she will be loved and well taken care of.

Thank You to RAGOM for giving all of these beautiful dogs a chance at forever! I am proud to be a part of this wonderful organization!

Ruby is doing great! She went to her first meet-and-greet and did such a good job. She let everyone pet her and give her lots of attention!

She is starting to relax in my home and is not doing as much pacing, she has learned that laying down and getting a pet is a good feeling!

Ruby is playing more with the resident dog! I just had to share this video with you. It warms my heart to see her come out of her shell!

More updates to come as we get to know this sweet girl!

Ruby had her spay surgery today (3/19/14) and two teeth pulled. She is back home resting and recovering from her big day!

This girl has made a lot of progress since coming to me! We would like to give a big thank-you to the staff at Happy Dog Boarding in South Dakota!!! Ruby spent a few weeks there before she was able to get a ride to her foster home. They took very good care of her and helped her to start trusting people.

Things Ruby has learned in less then two weeks!

  • Eating outside her crate during the day when people are near!
  • Going outside and coming in without too much convincing!
  • Going up and down a full flight of stairs with no troubles!
  • Coming up to me for pets!
  • Giving sweet licks on my hand!
  • Started showing some interest in the dog bones, but has not chewed on them yet.
  • Playing with the resident dog! This only lasted about 30 seconds, but that is a great start!
  • She walks OK on a leash and gets into the car by herself! We have not taken her on a real walk yet; I will start that when she heals up a little more.

One thing I find very interesting with Ruby is she is nervous, but does not seam to be overly afraid. She is not tucking her tail and hiding her head. I have even seen her tail wag a few times!

These are all really big steps for a dog that comes from a place where there is no socialization. We are so proud of Ruby and her progress.

We have learned that Ruby does not like to have her crate door closed in the night. During the day, if I need to crate her, she does just fine, lays down and takes a nap. At night, when the house is quiet and I put her in her crate, she was howling and barking. We have solved this problem by leaving the crate door open. When we get up in the morning, we find her sleeping in her crate. She is doing well in the house and has not had any accidents! She has not chewed on anything she shouldn't. I think she would do fine with free roam! She does not respect a shorter baby gate and will climb over it.

Ruby will be at:
