Sam 12-140

Profile

Meet Sam!

So far I've had Sam for two days and he is doing quite well. He is a very nice, mellow 6.5yr old pure breed GR. Up to date on vaccines, going to the vet to get his RAGOM work up soon. Not that anyone looking for dogs here is interested in beauty over companionship, but Sam is one really nice looking dog.

What I've noticed so far:

  • He enjoys shaking hands
  • Likes to go for walks, but pulls on a flat collar but does well on a gentle leader.
  • Shows resource guarding towards other dogs, but is fine when the high value treats and food are removed.
  • Is a "velcro" dog. He wants to be where you are.
  • Sleeps well on the rug next to your bed.
  • Doesn't bark, unless other dogs are barking at him.
  • Takes a leisurely attitude towards eating his meals.
  • Rides well in the car.
  • LOVES attention from people.

Reported to me:

  • Not a big fan of cats--and shouldn't live with them.
  • Not a fan of barking dogs.

If you:

  • Are single or a couple.
  • Have older, quieter children.
  • Probably no other pets.

Then this might be just the guy for you.

Sam 12-140 joined our family in May 2012, on Saturday, 6/20/15, he crossed the rainbow bridge. Cancer was eating him away and although he looked good, his pain was evident with every movement. He was a majestic boy who learned to be a family dog i.e. sit on couches (he had 3), lie on beds, sit at the table, etc. instead of hovering in the corner of the house when he first arrived. When he joined our family, he was "an apartment dog from MPLS", we thought he had vision and hearing deficits as he didn't respond to squirrels, bunnies, birds, etc. It took about 3 weeks before he "saw" his new world - and it never stopped from there! He loved the lake home, exploring the woods, the lake the island... he is missed so greatly. RAGOM is such a wonderful organization, we can never thank you enough for bringing Sam into our family.

Sam has been doing very well here. He LOVES playing with the resident dog, though they often need to be reminded to keep the commotion down when I'm trying to sleep :).

Sam's resource guarding issues have vanished. He now eats in the same room as the resident dog, and they have even been known to switch bowls mid meal. Sam continues to walk well on the gentle leader and has had ZERO accidents in the house the entire time he has been here. He has become a bit of a talkative fellow; when he hears my alarm go off in the morning, he marches in and adds his own noise to the mix -- my dogs get fed as soon as I get up, so they take getting me up very seriously.

Sam has a date with a potential forever home on Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed for him.
