This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Shadow arrived in Minnesota on 5/25/14 from Kentucky. Her owners were moving and planning to just leave her, tied up outside. Fortunately, an animal shelter in the area took her in and contacted RAGOM! She is a 3-year-old spayed Golden Retriever/Flat Coated Retriever mix. She could possibly have other breeds in there too, but your guess is as good as mine! Don't let that black coat fool you...she has an A++ Golden personality. Weighing in at only 55-60 pounds, she is just a little peanut, and has a very puppy-like look to her. She has been with us a couple of days now and is settling in nicely. So far, she has been nothing but a complete sweetheart, and is cute as a button. Pictures really don't do her justice. Very happy girl and when she gets excited, she lays down; it's adorable!
Here is a list of what we have observed so far:
- Gets along well with my resident dogs (Lab and Mini Dachshund)

- Rides well in the car (see picture)

- Takes treats nicely
- Does not jump up
- Stays off the couch
- Quiet in a crate
- Sleeps through the night on a dog bed
- No potty accidents so far
- Relaxed
- Comes when called
- Loves people
- Excellent for grooming, including nail trims
- Content with just hanging out
- Loves toys and antlers
- Likes to steal paper off coffee tables; no idea why!
- A little unsure about stairs

As you can see in her pictures, she has some significant hair loss. She was severely matted and was completely shaved and seen by a vet before she left Kentucky. The hair loss is from a skin infection due to untreated allergies. She also has yeast infections in both ears. She is taking a few different meds to clear these issues up. I also have her on a grain-free, limited-ingredient kibble, so we can hopefully cut out whatever she is allergic to, and she has another vet appointment this week. Her hair WILL eventually grow back. She has a thick black coat like a Golden's with a few brown tints in it. I included the picture RAGOM originally received of her when she still had her hair.
That's it for now, we will keep you updated on this sweet little Kentucky girl!
