Sydney 06-273

Profile

6/27/06: It is with great pleasure I am able to say that Ms. Sydney (AKA - Pumpkin - per her first foster mom) has finally made it to MN. It has been a VERY long haul for this pup along with her brothers and sisters. Sydney originally comes from Mississippi, however along the way one of her siblings became very ill and had to stop in Missouri to wait out a Parvo incubation period. With the incubation period and scare being over, the puppies were given their travel certificates and hit the road very early this morning and arrived in our great city of Apple Valley 12 hours later.

Ms. Sydney is one of the two Golden looking pups in the group. Sydney is close to 20 pounds at 3.5 months. She is a beautiful white with golden blotches. I have been told her mom is a Border Collie mix and dad was a Lab/Golden Retriever.

This is what her first foster mom had to say about her: Sydney is a big puppy, but she's a little shy and she likes to have a little place where she can run and be safe. I don't really understand what her thinking is, but quite frequently, when I go to pick her up, she'll tear into the bedroom and hide under the bed, tail wagging the whole time. She doesn't get very far under the bed so her little tail is still sticking out, wagging like crazy. This under-the-bed thing is probably a game, but when she's concerned - for example, when all the big dogs are barking at something - she likes to wedge into a dark place and peek out.

The main thing about Sydney is that she loves to swim. Sydney is a little bit shy except when she's swimming and then she's a champion. I only have one air conditioner vent in my living room and it's in the floor, where Sydney regularly plops herself down right on top of it. Sydney is big and I've always called her "my fat puppy," but I found out after she was wet that she's not fat at all, just fluffy. I guess she just likes AC!

As you can imagine we don?t have a lot of first-hand knowledge about Sydney, so keep checking back and we will give you all the updates. If you are an approved applicant, please email placementatragom [dot] org. If you are not approved ? send in an application today!

Sydney crossed the Rainbow Bridge at home surrounded by family on May 6, 2018. She is sorely missed by her family.

She lived a great life of only walking when she wanted to, never running, and never playing fetch despite being a retriever. She is remembered with great reverence for her half border collie antics that involved running a perimeter of the neighborhood and stealing her then 5 year old brother’s snow boots to make sure he couldn’t get too far in the yard.

She was the best and she will be missed.

I am happy to announce that Ms. Sydney was my shortest foster – yes, it is true – the family that adopted her today saw her on the website on her first night and were asking to meet her the next day, so with everything being said and done – 5 days later – Sydney went home with the N. family and will have 3 human kids and 2 adults to love her and show her adults and children can be trusted.

We love you Syd and will miss you!

Sydney is such a hoot – we got her home late last night – around 8:30 and made her take a bath. On the trip here someone decided to throw up on her – not a pretty sight. So we got the first layer of dirt and grim off along with the yucky stuff. She was then brushed and played happily with the resident Newfoundlands and constantly came to get love from the three humans.

They slept great in the big crate we set up for them last night – in fact I heard two little whine’s and that was it. I am sure they were from Sydney because she is the vocal one!

Sydney so far has not been shy at all around us; she and Midnight are always by someone’s side ready for a little extra pat here or there. In fact, when I am working they are under my desk; if I move, they come with me. Sydney has a little crate that she will go into and take a cat nap as long as someone is close by. But she wants to be with you as much as possible.

She is doing great on our walks - we are taking a walk every morning and then again at night; they are not long, sometimes just down the road. I don’t want to make them stressful, so when she says it is time, we come back and play in the yard. We have not had any accidents in the house, but she has never gone to the door either - I am just very good about getting them outside when I feel it is time – usually every couple of hours or after a play session. Sydney is not a biter, in fact when she wants your attention she will sit at your feet and just look up at you. However, when she has to fight with Midnight to get some love she will jump up to get higher so she is easier to touch. Funny little thing! But so wonderful.

We went to the vet today to get our second set of shots. She was not thrilled with that and weighed in at 20.8. So she is ready for her new home starting Saturday....are you ready to let her into your life? Who would not want a dog that was saved from Mississippi? Oh, she is so special.
