Taffy 08-042

Profile

Today is Tuesday, January 22, 2008 and a very wintry day out. We brought Taffy 08-042 home this afternoon on a temp basis and to get her in from the COLD. She is such a doll! I am SO GLAD she will not have to stay outside anymore.

This is a very young lady…almost a year old now. She is small, I would guess maybe 46# or so. She has a docked tail due to an infection as a puppy so she has a unique look! Beautiful red coat. The whitest teeth I have ever seen! She is so soft too. Taffy has a “well visit” tomorrow and get herself chipped also. So I will have more medical information at that time but she is basically UTD and spayed.

We are taking our time, trying to get used to the inside of the house. Upon arrival, Taffy met the crew in the back yard, we barked/grumped/stared and everyone is fine. (However, my crew is more on the senior end.) This girl would love to play…butt up in the air and everything! She is a doll. She is learning and listening to all the new sounds in a house. (She has been in one before…but I am not sure for how long, while the surrendering owner went on a trip a friend who has her brother "doggie sat." ) She had NO IDEA what to do when the TV was turned on! What a hoot! Could not figure out where these “voices” were coming from!

She is not hyper but interested in the sounds in the home, walking around, sniffing, not having much of an idea what is what around here—just a waggin’ that little stump of hers (sure does give her character!). Add 2 seniors and a middle-ager…She is doing very good. She has been offered bones, and already has chewed on them (nyla); she is very, very nice and friendly….she is checking things out however, staying by me. She definitely listens and knows her name.

She is off leash now inside while she takes a snoop around here…it is so cute to watch! She seems to listen good for a pup. She knows the basics…She is not sure what to do with food in a dog dish, but small amounts hand fed, she will eat it. At the suggestion of the surrendering owner----I have brought in my large doggie crate for when I do go to work tomorrow. I am sure as pups go, she will eat inappropriate things…all in safety. She has been crated before so we will try and see how that goes.

My kitties are not real thrilled yet! They are scattered and out of sight! Taffy has not even noticed… It has been a LONG time since a pup in our home…but in my opinion, one SMART girl. So sweet, a total beauty and I am SO glad INTO Ragom!! This is ONE SUPER GOLDEN GIRL who needs a home who will work with her, love her, train her and yes, watch that little stub of her go off!!! What a great lover girl…..This girl needs a family and lots of TLC and attention!

I have to thank a friend who noticed this dog was for FREE on ads on a tv network and referring this to me! SA my hat is BIG TIME off to you for helping rescue this girl and getting her into Ragom!!!

We said goodbye to our very special girl Taffy on July 12, 2017, she was ten years old. Taffy battled osteosarcoma in her last two months.

We were so fortunate to have Taffy in our family for nine wonderful years. It is amazing how much life one retriever can give to a whole family.

She was a true retriever who always liked to retrieve and would always return with the ball or stick, just not too close, she had to enjoy it for a minute before chasing it again, and again and again. Of course good luck keeping her out of the water, she would swim till the sun set if she had her way.

Taffy even let us bring two kittens into our home in her last two years. She made sure she still got all the attention but she seemed okay with her new brothers.

She was always by our side, always there, always giving. We will miss her.

We have our memories and she will always be in our hearts.

Today, a wonderful man took over 5 hours to drive here to meet this golden girl. Taffy was excited of course to meet someone new. What can I say, just a wonderful meeting and a super adoption to follow!

Taffy, like most young goldens, is very friendly and outgoing and happy. Jim, her new dad, is a very kind, warm and nice gentleman. Jim is very anxious for himself and his family to begin a new long, long life with a beautiful golden retriever pup, a rescued one! Taffy is ready and raring to go too. She is so very smart and so able to learn a whole new world of things! Obedience, daily walks and lots of playing are in her future. Three boys who will love her and play with her, trips to the doggie parks, and lots of love and kindness. Once manners and training are established, this golden girl can go with dad to work too. Dad works more than half the time out of the home which is such a huge bonus for any dog. Taffy is going to be a very happy, lucky golden girl in her new adoptive home. This is a great family and a super great little golden! What a perfect wonderful beginning for Taffy, and her new golden life. For a golden without a tail, she is one unique super pup! Thank you RAGOM for rescuing this little girl!

Taffy: Have fun watching Animal Planet in your new home! And have fun at at all those doggie parks!!

Sunday, January 27, 2008

I have gotten such cute new photos and she has come so FAR in the short time we have had her, about 3 days….it is just unreal. So I want to do a fun update on her. First of all, Taffy LOVES the doggie park! Wow, friends, and lots of them! We are friendly, energetic, and polite…nothing like a doggie park ‘rush’! Need about 2-3 of them a day! She listens and comes back very good. Taffy plays very nice and is totally happy!

Another cute thing is, the first day we got her, she had no idea what the TV was (I don’t think…) I turned it on and she had no idea what that was…Well, I turn on Animal Planet often of course and when we hear puppies and things, she sits in front of the TV, tilts her head, and listens, trying to figure out where those pets/pups are on TV! It is so comical! She figures these guys are ready to play BEHIND the TV….Gosh it is funny!

Taffy is a typical pup, and is doing super. She is so pretty. Lots of in and out with our other dogs, which she thinks is great. In walking alone, she does very good for a baby girl….I use a harness, and she wants to sniff everything of course, but not scared of anything and comes right back when called.

This is a wonderful, beautiful girl, just right for training/loving/and learning….she is so bright and kind….but a real puppy! I have senior family so she would sure appreciate a younger generation to play with! These recent pictures are so cute, I just had to share! We have not fostered a puppy in so many years and I had forgotten how photogenic they are! Not to mention BUSY!

What a doll. This is one great golden girl baby! Enjoy the pictures…she is so much fun…!

Watching TV

STILL watching TV...okay, where are those dogs?

How pretty am I...

Am I a beauty or what?!

Here is the girl again.

We are really getting used to staying inside! No problem...

Taffy had her well-visit vet check today. She is in super shape. She it totally UTD; Heartgard and Frontline; heartworm negative. She weighs 52# which sort of surprised me...didn't think she was quite that weight. She was VERY well behaved....waggin' that little stump of hers....and showing those bright white teeth! Everything checked out just perfect. She melted the staff with her looks and personality! I put a harness on her because that is what I prefer for dogs, and Taffy was not sure in the beginning, but fine now.

She rode beautifully in the truck, just enjoying the view(s). She listens very well and a little training and she is going to be a dream girl. She listens to sit and stay (short period of time of course). Very bright and I feel eager to learn and train. She is just the right compact size too! Her coat is very very nice and clean and soft. She goes in and out to the fenced backyard with no problem. So no accidents at all so far. She has played with my border collie mix and golden.

She just wants attention so bad. She gets that butt up in the air outside and ready to rock and roll! I have her in a crate in the am while I am at work (about 3.5-4 hrs) and she does fine. We got some new toys today too! This is a great family dog, exercise companion dog, and just a doll who needs a home who will give her a lot of attention and love! She is doing just great.
