Taffy 15-015

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
January 18, 2015 not required  5+  optional  yes
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Moose and Taffy are a bonded pair of senior goldens.  They have been together all of their lives.  It is the surrendering owners hope and my suggestion that they be adopted together.  They were surrendered to RAGOM because their owner recentlypassed away and the surviving family could not keep them due to the number of resident dogs and space limitations in their home.  They are both great passengers in the car and I understand they were used to travelling with their previous owner.  It is apparant that they have been loved and well cared for.  It is also obvious that they are distraught about their change in circumstances.  Moose spends a good deal of time waiting by the door.  Taffy is either at my side or Moose's side.  They both are housetrained and well behaved.  For the most part they get along with my pair of resident goldens and they pretty much ignore the cat.

Taffy suffers from some skin allergies that have been controlled with benadryl.  Over the past few weeks she has developed some hot spots and is taking antibiotics to treat the infection.  She is already showing much improvement.  I also believe that Taffy is having a difficult time hearing.  You have to raise your voice or get her attention before she will follow commands.  Taffy is spayed and a petite 59 pounds.  She shows some signs of stiffness when she wakes up from a nap, but likes to roam about the fenced yard as much as the other dogs.  We will get an update on her skin condition after she has been to the vet for a checkup and vaccinations.

Taffy is sweet and quite a bit of a velcro dog.  She can get a bit snarky with my resident female golden over food and my attention.  I have quickly learned to feed them at different times and to give them each some individual attention.

We have been the mom and dad for Taffy 15-015 for over two years. We wanted to let you know that she crossed the rainbow bridge a couple of days ago after 13 years of happy times with her first family and us. We adopted Taffy and Moose as a bonded pair and Moose passed away in sept of 2015. Her previous owner had passed away and his daughter was not able to care for them. She has asked to stay in touch since the pair were a last link to her father.

Please let her know that Taffy was loved by us right from the day we adopted her from Jeff C. She was tirelessly happy, a friendly face (and lick) to all neighbors and frankly was Ian's "daddy's girl" right from the start. She voiced her opinion if left behind mistakenly when her daddy was cutting the front lawn and could be counted on to "remind" us of when it was breakfast and dinner time. Not to mention knowing where the treats were and if we forgot to pass them out.

She was our scrappiest rescue dog (we have had 5 others) having survived a few surgeries for tumors. In the end, her tail still gave us wags even as she was not feeling herself. We are still sad and today, when we picked up her cremains we felt the loss of our sweet little girl all over again.

Thank you again for all you do to rescue these incredible dogs. We are blessed to have them in our family and hearts forever.

Both Moose 15-014 and Taffy 15-015 have settled in quickly in the past two weeks.  Both dogs are very friendly and greet us with happy barks, hops and kisses when we come home from being at work or out on errands.  Taffy is easily the smartest dog we have every adopted.  She follows us from room to room and watches intently. Taffy almost always follows her observation time with a request for a tummy rub.  She is also the boss of everyone.  She intiates play with our resident dog, Moose and with her humans.  Moose is a laid back snuggler.  He has quickly learned that he is allowed on the leather couch and looks forward to cuddling whenever he can.  All three dogs love toys and now we have 3 Lamb Chops from Fleet Farm since everyone decided that the original Lamb Chop was their favorite toy.

We have gone on a few short walks.  The cold weather means that we are not going too far and have not met the neighbors and kids who will definitely be visiting the three happy dogs to give them some love.  We are grateful that Ragom fostered these dogs and allowed us to adopt them.  They are a joy to have in our family.

We have attached a picture of the dogs all lined up and sitting very nicely waiting for a treat. Colby (Resident), Moose and Taffy

There is also a picture of Moose and Taffy playing tug with one of the 3 Lamb Chops under my desk while I work at home.

Taffy was adopted along with her companion Moose by the S family on February 8.  In the short time they were with us the both really opened up.  They learned to play with the resident dogs.  They developed a love of popcorn.  And they were just generally a joy to have around.  I know that they will be very happy in their new forever home.

Taffy has settled right in to the routine.  The original snarkiness between her and my resident female golden is just about completely gone.  I do still stand between them when it is time to eat to avoid problems and to make sure that everyone eats the right amount of food.  Taffy may be small and old, but she is quite active for short periods of time.  I was surprised to find out that she can and will jump over the baby gate.  She prefers sleeping on the couch, but will curl up for a snooze just about anywhere.  I found her curled up behind the toilet when I came home from work yesterday.  She like to carry a tennis ball around with her and will play tug with a rope bone.  She is getting to be quite a velcro dog and follow me around the house.  When she gets your attention she will roll onto her back in hopes of a good belly rub.  She is really very sweet and just needs a place with lots of love and lots of time for naps.
