Turner 12-154

Turner has a booboo! As you can see in Turner's pic, he came with an icky dog bite on the head (that was a surprise!). No worry, he will be as good as new in a few weeks. We met Turner Sunday and were his 5th transport of the day. No wonder he felt stressed but once he checked out (home) he slept by our bed all night long without a peep. What a trooper!

Turner is a 10 year old PB GR. He weighs 74lbs, has a red coat and freckly silver/cute, cute face. If Turner didn't have that white mask, there is no way I would guess he is 10. He is spry, jumps up and down on all 4 legs when excited, like when I pull out the leash, is quite the talker (we don't speak the same language yet) and doesn't have even a hint of arthritis.

I do not know Turner's story. The owner said she could no longer afford him and she wanted him to have more exercise. Because of the injury, Turner is on antibiotics for a few days and taking Prednisone for some allergies. He has shown absolutely no aggression to our Jackson or dogs he has met. He and Jack are playmates and little shadows of each other.

Turner was not neutered, but that has "been fixed". He comes when called, has had no accidents, chews on nothing inappropriate and at age 10 seems to not know any basic commands, not even sit. He does seem to know stay and no. Baby steps, as of now we are working on sit and wait. The owner said he stayed in the yard with no fence or tie-out. We haven't tested that yet!

Turner LOVES the car and makes a great shotgun, as Jack tends to hog the whole back seat. He is ready to go anywhere, anytime.

This is one sweet, very affectionate guy who deserves a loving, caring home. We will keep you posted as we get to know him better and include some nicer pictures.

Lots of news to share about Turner!  He’s now with a new foster family, living in Iowa City, Iowa.  His first foster family was very sad to see him go, but right now Iowa City is a good place for Turner to be.  He’s getting along famously with his new dog pals and has settled into the household routine within just a few short days.  The dog bite wound on his head has healed and the hair is growing back, restoring his handsome good looks.  When we took him to the vet earlier this month, we discovered two mysterious lumps and have scheduled surgery mid-June to have them both removed and biopsied.  As soon as we get information about the true nature of these mystery lumps, we’ll let you know.  Although Turner has only been part of our household for a few weeks, we already know this is a very deserving dog – he’s calm, gentle, and very affectionate.  One of his favorite things (next to riding in the car) is draping himself across your lap and looking up into your face with those big eyes and that lovely white face.  Occasionally he sneaks in a quick dog kiss on your chin.  And sometimes when you pet him he gets so happy he actually squeaks and squeals – I can’t think of another way to describe it.  It’s pretty darn cute.

With all this good weather we’ve been having Turner has had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fenced back yard while we tend to the garden.  He’s discovered the pure joy of stalking chipmunks and chasing squirrels; he becomes so fixated on these small creatures, it’s amazing.  Sometimes he just stretches out on the deck, perfectly still, waiting for the smallest movement in the shrubs and rocks where he’s seen these chipmunks before. If it weren’t for our fence, I’m positive he’d chase them a good distance. If these chipmunks are smart, they’ll be moving to the neighbors yard shortly.

Turner has wooed all the people he’s met.  Vet techs love to coo all over him and he soaks in all the attention.  He’s very huggable and very people oriented.  He hasn’t shown much interest in the cats he’s seen at the vet or at the groomers, it’s almost like they’re invisible to him – he’s focused on the people.  Turner has had a chance to meet a few children and from what we’ve seen so far he seems gentle and very well behaved.  We haven’t seen any fear of storms or being alone, he shares toys easily and doesn’t protect his food.  He has great manners.

And one more thing – Turner really knows how to welcome you home after you’ve been gone – doesn’t matter if it was a quick trip to the grocery store or maybe something longer, he makes you glad you hurried home!

Hi Folks,
FM said I needed to keep busy so I get to write to you.  I love my new foster bro Jack, FM and FD, but what I love the very, very mostest is to go for a ride.  Woo Hoo!!!  When FM grabs her purse, I hop up & down and look my cutest and most of the time, I get to go along.

I had to stay at the doctors office one night cause I "got fixed" (whatever that means).  I heard the vet tell mommy I was really healthy in every way and all my tests came back super-great.  Well, I could have told them that.  Oh dear, hate to brag and run but I hear that yummy treat bag rattling.

That's right, Turner has had all his tests, microchipped, everything came back perfectly  and is ready to go to a lucky family.  That's pretty awesome for a dog his age.  Turner has now learned to sit politely to get a treat and this is big because he gets excited when he hears treat.  Not understanding the concept of "wait" yet, but it will come.

Turner's previous owner said he did not use a leash and he does stay close when we are outside and comes when called.  When walking we just use the flat collar and again he has quite a bit of stamina for an older guy.  Like most goldens, Turner likes to be by your side and lays nicely by your feet wherever you happen to be.

Turner could go to someone with other dogs, but I think he would relish having his family to himself.  I don't think Turner is for youngsters, he tends to get excited but that is not definite as we haven't had a chance to test him with our young grandkids yet.  If you want a great older companion with no health issues, Turner would be the boy for you!

Have to add a little something that happened this morning.  Jackson and Turner somehow opened the popcorn can of treats this morning and half the can of treats is missing when I found them having a heyday.
Needless to say they have been staying in the yard this morning!
