Hi, all.
Thought we better give another update on Twix...he has seen the vet and had X-rays done of the hips and joints, and basically has OCD (osteochondritis dissecans) which has to do with cartilage and joints and is an arthritic condition which can be slowed down with omega, glucosamine, and down the road rimadyl if needed. Typical of the breed, hips are fine, typically not problematic, managing weight is crucial, not overly debilitating, can walk, play fetch, Frisbee, swim. Really lead a normal life as long as he is comfortable!
So he needs a family who will be devoted to making sure he loses the weight and keeps it off for the health of his joints as well as him! Twix is a big boy, but very easy, mellow and LOVES to be with his people, never to sleep outside again. He is a licker when he gets excited or nervous, but has gotten much better. We had a storm the other night and he is a little nervous during them, just paces, pants and licks but as long as he can be by his human, he is fine!
Twix walks very easily on the leash; most of the time, he his either behind you or beside you. If he decides he wants to stop and smell the roses or whatever else, he will stop you dead in your tracks as he is very strong, but once he is done sniffing, he is ready to go again. He does not have a prey drive at all; he has had birds and squirrels in front of him and he just looks and moves on! He is a big love bug!!
