Tyson came into RAGOM on Saturday with Annie and Penny from overflowing shelters in Alabama. He is healthy, neutered, weighs about 60 pound, and is less than 2 years old. He doesn’t know his name yet. We had a new theory when we decided to foster Tyson, to see if stray dogs could learn their name faster when the resident dog has the same name. Our theory is not really working – our resident Tyson gets confused when we call for Tyson the foster. He takes treats well and is learning "sit" and "come." He has been eating by hand-feeding. He kept knocking his food dish over with food sprawling all over the floor, so I hold his dish and hand-feed him.

He is pretty nervous about loud noises and sudden movements. He likes to hang out by himself away from the action. He snuggles up to us when hanging out. He really prefers to be outside and lays in the rock landscape which makes me think he was an outdoor dog. His temporary foster from the Tennessee Golden Retriever rescue indicated he was an escape artist, but we have not given him much chance to try. We have a 6’ wood fence which helps to keep the strays from running away. He is learning to play with toys and has found chewing on Nylabones is his favorite. He gets scared when we toss a ball to play catch. It makes me wonder how rough his background was if he is so skittish and nervous. He is super sweet and crawls into our laps whenever he can. Because he doesn’t know how to play with toys or other dogs, he is very mouthy. We are trying to get him stable and comfortable with dogs, toys, and new experiences.

Tyson and Annie will be at the Edina meet-and-greet on Saturday.

Lil' Tyson was ready for the big game with his "wide retriever" tshirt! He gave FM the "what are you doing to me look!?!?", when I put on his game day attire. Over the last couple of week, he has enjoyed playing with his new buddy, Jack. They run and play outside as much as possible. He has become the instigator of play in the house with Jack as well.He continues to hang out and wonders what we are eating. He loves popcorn! He hasn't figured out how to catch popcorn in the air like the big boys. The boys each begged for a tasty bite of ice cream and he hung out looking for any leftovers. He does not normally beg for food, but is realizing their are some very tasty things that he gets as treats from time to time.We continue to encourage him to get loving and attention. At first he looks like "don't make me...then, he relaxes into...ah, this isn't so bad, keep rubbing, here get that spot, too!"Our neighbor came over to play with the dogs. He threw lots of snowballs for the boys to chase after. Lil'Tyson hung out and was not afraid when he threw snowballs! He didn't chase the snowballs yet, but at least he didn't run the other direction like the first time I threw a tennis ball in November. He makes progress every day.Lil'Tyson still reacts to any beeping noise like the oven, microwave, humidifier, etc - I am guessing some sort of barking device was used on him.

Tyson gets sweeter every day he is with us. He has been great with the other foster dogs we have had, 3 during his time with us. Last Saturday, we went to a meet and greet. Tyson was much more social at the event, than the two we went to in November. Of course, he was more interested in meeting all the dogs that came into the event, than the people who wanted to check him out. I heard many comments about how gorgeous of a dog he is and such neat eyes he has. I can't even describe how soft he is - like a very plush stuff animal. Several times a day, I seek him out for a few pets. He is doing more of the same. On a more regular basis, he follows us from room to room or hangs out in the kitchen waiting for a tasty treat.Tyson loves the other dogs here, he loves to play. When he first arrived, we were not sure if he should be an only dog or not. I think a family that stays home a lot during the day/week would be great. I think he would love to have another playful dog like Annie 14-347, Rocky 14-385 and introducing Jack 15-009. Jack looks identical to Rocky and I think Tyson missed him after he was adopted last week. They run and chase, play tug and Tyson likes to give back rubs of the male variety. Jack is tolerating Tyson's affection. A few times, we have had fish (salmon or tuna) while Tyson has been in residence. Given he lived in the south, I think we has had fish before. He loves them so much, he can't get enough of the tasty treats, include salmon skins. I had never thought to give the dogs salmon skins, but when I saw them at the pet store for $$$ I decided to try it at home. The boys all love salmon. We keep trying to feed him fruits and veggies, but he isn't a fan. Tyson ate some strawberries and sweet potatoes with a little convincing. FD took this picture tonight and said - "this is the one that is going to make Tyson adopted!". Don't prove him wrong... We are home the next two weekends, if you would like to spend some quality time with Tyson. He is much more personable in our home, then at the adoption events. So, if you came to an event to check him out and he gave you the cold shoulder - give him another opportunity to prove what a sweetheart he really is.In his forever home, a fenced in yard is probably best, he could be around children (probably 8-10 or older) as he has reduced his mouthy behavior to almost extinct and another friend to play. Considering he is under 2, he sure is calm in the house. We have graduated to free roam during the day instead of his locked kennel. He still likes his kennel, but has found a few spots around the house. He lounges on the window seat and prefers hanging out in the kitchen looking outdoors.

Tyson has been with us 2 months now and has grown a lot in his comfort of being with us. He loves meeting new people and is a gentle one with kids and adults. He has met several dogs and seems willing to play, even when barked at by other dogs. We have not cat tested Tyson yet. He is learning his name and will respond more often to it.

The last month, he really has initiated a lot more play with Rocky and can be spunky with him. Today, they were playing outside and he grabbed Rocky’s leash, as to pull Rocky into the playing field.

He is doing fine on a tie out at the cabin, he loves spending time outside. He decided to take a journey, bolted out the door when I was hooking up Rocky on the tie-out. Tyson went through the woods, over the hills…across the lake and through a swamp! I was nervous that he was not listening to his name or responding to treats. I couldn’t tell if he was exploring or playing catch me if you can! When I stopped chasing him and walked out of the swamp, he stopped and started to follow me. This is the first time he has escaped from us in 2 months, when his former foster said he escaped several times in a week. Needless to say, his forever family should have a fence or be very diligent about a tie-out or walks. He loves walks and did a great job today of not pulling.

He has gained weight while in foster care, his hair is softer and his tail wags a lot more often. His barking has drastically decreased, but he watches for anything outside. He reacts to high pitched beeping  (our humidifier), so we wonder if a shock collar was used on him. He hears the noise, instantly slinks into a submissive stance and bolts to his kennel. He has learned to come in from outside with the help of treats. Tyson Sr and Rocky assume they need a treat, too! He doesn’t jump on the furniture nor bed and he loves being in his kennel. Early on, we were not sure if he should have another dog, but I think he would be fine as an only dog with visits or be part of a family with a playful dog.

Tyson continues to be a sweet boy while hanging out in fosterland. We had professional pictures taken yesterday because all of the one's I have taken have been blurry or don't show his true beauty. I always joked he is camera shy. You would have thought we were torturing him yesterday by giving him treats trying to get him to look up for pictures. At one point he retreated to his kennel, so we tried a few close ups there. After awhile, we decided to take him outside to see if he would relax for some photos. This picture reminds me of "booking pictures" - for his jail time. After last weekend's tiff over a stuffed animal with Rocky, neither one wanted to claim the goose. Tyson has loosened up and now plays chase and tag with Rocky outside, again. Tonight they were wild when running on the pool cover, it was very bouncy now that it isn't frozen to the ice. It surprises me that he likes it, since he can be so scared of little noises inside. The trampoline cover made a loud airy noise as they bounced around chasing each other. Such a silly boy!He has become very lovey this week, seeking attention more often, looking for pets.It is raining tonight and Tyson is not a fan of being dried off with a towel when he comes in. We haven't bathed him, since in foster care because he was groomed before he arrived. We will have to try this soon and hope he can handle all the attention a bath brings. We are hoping Santa brings Tyson his very own loving family for Christmas - is this you???

We have noticed Tyson’s fur is getting so soft. After a month in foster care and eating high quality food, he looks and feels better. He met our new foster dog, Rocky last week without any issue. He has initiated play by chasing around the back yard. I think we picked this game up from Annie, 14-347 before she was adopted. He bobs around the backyard and gets the boys to chase him. Tyson sr, is still acting like a grumpy old man now that he is 6 and hasn’t been his normal playful self, since our RAGOM adopted boy, Chance 12-021 died in October. I am glad Tyson II has Rocky to chase on occasion.

We had lots of company this weekend and Tyson did great with the kids and taking treats. He has almost lost all his mouthing behaviors now that he knows how to play with toys and burn off energy. I think he could go to a family with kids 10 or over.Time to take a nap and snuggle on the couch with FM and TysonI have waffled a few times, if he needs a family with another dog or not. He had a spat with Rocky over a stuffed animal outside, which I had to break up as neither was backing down when I yelled at them. When he is the only dog in the house, he follows us around. When the other dogs are needy for attention – Tyson hangs out in his kennel. He prefers his kennel and many times lies in their when we are home or will want to sleep in there vs our bedroom.

He is such a sweet, calm boy who is looking for a great place to call his own. Is this your place?

Tyson has been with us a month now. He has settled in and knows his new pattern of life. He has done great at the cabin this week. He has to be on a tie out when he goes outside. He has not minded it at all. We moved from leash inside and on tie outside to just walking him out and connecting the 25' tie out. He stands patiently waiting to be connected and unconnected. We have been using treats to get him in the house faster, especially since it was -13 yesterday morning. He now knows what TREAT means. We tested him today to see what he would do with a trailing tie-out. He did great. He wandered in the normal space as I picked up after the boys. When I called him to follow me in other parts, he came and just hung out in the front yard, jumping around and initiated play with Tyson Sr. When he found his rawhide from yesterday, he laid down and chewed, chewed. He didn't want to come in when we got cold, so we hooked him up again. This is exciting that he was comfortable just hanging outside with us and not looking to bolt for a long journey. He does pace around from room to room or hangs out in his kennel, but does not have excessive energy. We have given him bully sticks and rawhides this week to give him something to do for awhile. He was unsure what they were at first, but Tyson figured it out pretty quick. He has done a lot of snuggling this week with us home all day. He crawls up on the coach and sits on our laps. He leans in for long pets and scratches when he can.
We started training today on sit, down and stay. He has sit down pat, especially with a treat. He made progress on down, but has not figured out stay for more than 5 seconds. More training tomorrow to earn treats. After a month, I think he could live or without another dog, but he should have a fence. He has been exposed to kids and does fine. I initially said older kids due to Tyson's mouthy behaviors, but these are diminishing as he learns to chew on toys. Our rescue saving neighbor boy sat by his kennel until Tyson was comfortable to play. They ended up playing tug with his favorite goose.Another progress step this week, Tyson has learned to go downstairs! At home, he would have nothing to do with it. At the cabin, we can come in from outside and go UP the stairs. Once Tyson figured out the stairs, he now heads downstairs for a little scouting.

Tyson (Tyson the 2nd or T2) has been with us 1.5 weeks and is settling in nicely. He at times knows his name. He has found some toys that he likes to play with and even will play tug for a few seconds with Tyson (Sr). He likes to chase Annie around the yard and pool. He will just lay on the pool cover, which is like a large trampoline, and roll around to scratch his back.Tyson enjoying his nylabone poolside Annie will be on the deck and he will be on the ground chasing her back and forth. He has learned not to walk on her, as to not get in trouble with her. Tyson comes to us for occasional attention and wags his tail, but spends time in the kennel by himself. We left the kennel doors open over the weekend and he goes to lay down in his for a few minutes, then Annie's for a few minutes and then back to his kennel. Reminds me of a children's book about goldie locks and what bed she was trying to find... Tyson was known as an escape artist before coming into RASGOM, but we have not lost him yet. We use a harness when he goes out in public like for walks, to the vet or to adoption events. He likes to be outside, so bringing him back in the house from these public outings can be difficult. I lead him into the garage and he stubbornly plants his feet to say, I don't want to go inside. After a few minutes, I can convince him a treat would be tasty enough reason to go inside. Tyson will be at the Shakopee meet and greet on Saturday.
