10/25/2013:

Please welcome the gorgeous girl Whitney 13-317 to the RAGOM family. She is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever and weighs 62 pounds. Whitney was rescued from a puppy mill in Pine River by the Animal Humane Society (AHS) on July 16, 2013, as part of a group of 133 dogs. The court case was recently decided and the AHS was awarded custody of these dogs, along with the 80 puppies born to the pregnant females.

Whitney has been in RAGOM foster care since September 22. She has now become part of the RAGOM family so we can continue to provide much needed socialization and love and find her a forever home.

In the four weeks in foster care, Whitney is slowly coming out of her shell, making the transition from a caterpillar to a butterfly. She is very shy of people, but is learning that good things do come from nice people. Each week she is making progress, learning new things and showing more trust.

Whitney is up-to-date on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. She currently has a urinary tract infection and yeast infection in one ear, and we are working to get those resolved. She will be spayed on Monday, October 28.

Since she is so very shy, she will require the following in her forever home:

  • Physical Fence.
  • Another medium or large, confident dog with playful and easy-going tempermant.
  • No kids under 10.
  • A person or family that will be incredibly patient and understanding of her history and will work with her to trust people and help her reach her full potential.

Whitney will be at the Chuck and Don's Meet and Greet in Shakopee on Saturday, October 26, from 1:00-3:00pm.

Updates

Monday, January 6, 2014

Hello Everyone! Miss W here sending in a final update.

I am officially adopted and have been in my new home for a week now. My new brother Jack is quickly becoming my best friend! I have even taken over his spot on the bed with mom and dad!

I have a few thank-yous to say. First and foremost, to those brave people working so hard to shut down puppy mills and for our rescuers from those organizations along with the Animal Humane Society. Without you, I shudder to think what my fate would have been this harsh winter, along with all of the other dogs rescued with me, like RaeLynne 13-338.

Secondly, to RAGOM for stepping up to help us make the transition to living in a home and learning how to be a "dog," to finding me a forever home with a loving family. My life is forever changed for the better!

To the wonderful Dr. R, who performed bilateral denervation surgery with HA injections to help me feel better and want to play.

I owe a lot of my growth to my foster sisters, foster cousins, RaeLynne 13-338, Nicole 13-352 and her puppies JJ 13-375 to Winston 13-382, and the pack at The Ranch. I was a wallflower for a long time, but I finally figured it out and now thoroughly enjoy a good game of chase!

Me and my best friend Nicole 13-352. I am covering her with my love this night that she had surgery and was not feeling very good.

I also learned that people are a good thing. I owe many thanks to all of the people that came to spend time helping with the puppies and gave me extra time and attention as well. And a super big hug and kiss to Uncle Chip, whose given name is Whitney, and whom I am named after. He was always there for me at lunchtime making me feel loved. Another lunch buddy was Amy and I send you a big hug and kiss too!

Here is me and my new family on adoption day! Sorry, the sun was in Jack's eyes.

And a couple of me in my new home.

Thank you so much for following my journey to a new life. All of your prayers and your support of RAGOM make a huge difference for the needy dogs in rescue!

Love to all,

Whitney, Miss W.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas season and got some time off with your friends and family.

First off, a huge Thank You to Mary Jo M for the holiday icon! FM is sure that you gave me lots of love while I was waiting at AHS to see what my fate was going to be. Without AHS staff and volunteers, all of us from the Pine River rescue would not have had a chance at a good life. You have changed my life forever!

I know it has been quite a while since my last update, but things have been pretty crazy here at my foster home. You see, we had Nicole 13-351 and her litter of 8 move in with us on November 9th when the puppies were just 4 weeks old. Geez, do they require l lot of attention!

People were coming and going in this house for 3 shifts a day to help socialize the puppies. And guess what, everyone spent time with me and momma Nicole too! BONUS! Many times I would just sit on the couch and watch, then someone would come sit with me and pet me. Oh, how I liked that special attention! At time there were 15 dogs here, but I liked that because I am comfortable in the doggie world now.

Here are pictures of me and Nicole this week.

At first, I wasn't too sure about all of the puppies. RaeLynne's litter (she came from Pine River too) came over a few times last October and I was a bit timid. Well, so much for that! After having the crew of 8 here for over 5 weeks, I grew to like the little buggers!

Check out the videos of me playing in the backyard! It took me some time to figure out this play thing, but now I just love to play outside and you can see the smile on my face and sparkle in my eyes!

FM really loves my horsey prance.

You may notice I have "shorts" on. OK, well, I had hip surgery on November 24th. The awesome Dr. R did denervation surgery and HA injection on each hip. The surgery was to cut some of the nerves in my hip joints to reduce pain and the HA injections are kinda like joint fluid for lubrication. Well, let me tell you how much better I feel! Most of the time, I wear a jacket outside to cover up my hips as it will take a long time for my fur to grow back in.

All of the puppies were adopted out around December 16th, but Ryder and Sawyer came back for babysitting for the holidays. Here's a video of me and little Ryder having our nightly bedtime play! FM calls it kissy-face.

A picture of me and Sawyer hanging out in the new snowfall today.

I really do love to roll in the snow now too!

I have been in foster care for just over 3 months now. Those first few were incredibly scary for me. But now, I know that there are good people in the world that love me and don't want to hurt me. I still have a lot of growing to do to totally trust people, but I know I am up for the challenge. I have met so many nice people on my road to recovery. And there is a special couple that has come to see me a few times and have decided that they would like me to become a part of their family! Yup, you heard that right! A Family of My Very Own! Can I just say that Santa REALLY delivered BIG this year!

So on Saturday, I will be moving to my new home. FM is going to be very sad to see me go as she said I was her EASIEST foster EVER and she totally fell in love with me because I am beyond sweet! But she is super happy for me too. My foster family has taught me so much on how to be a dog. And my trips to the RANCH helped me to spread my wings too!

I will write a final update with a picture of my new family later this weekend.

So now that I will be starting a new life, I have to ask a favor of you. If you could spread the word that my BFF Nicole 13-351 is waiting for her forever home too, I would really appreciate it. She is super sweet like me and a FANTASTIC momma!

Love to all of my fans,

Whitney

From Bear 10-247, Babe 12-247, and the rest of the Ranch Hands. :)

RAGOM Girl Whitney 13-317 went on a little adventure last weekend to our home...the 12 Paws Ranch--lovingly named after our original RAGOM pack and the magical way they had helped so many puppy mill types like Whitney find their wings and fly. Seems the "magic" still exists as our beautiful guest Whitney enjoyed spreading her wings a bit.

Whitney loved playing with the boys!

Whitney had a good time and so did we! Can't wait to have her back again. Whitney's foster mom has done so much work with Whitney...taking her out of her comfort zone so she can experience snapshots of the Golden Life she deserves. I have no doubt this little sweetheart will continue to blossom. She is an absolute Angel!

Until next time...

Hi Everyone,

I thought it was time to take over writing my own updates. I have made some great strides since coming into the RAGOM family 6 weeks ago. While I am still very shy in many ways, I have had some great breakthroughs too.

I went to my first meet and greet last weekend and met a bunch of nice people and volunteers that were great to me. I sat in one place the whole time and was just watching everything that was happening. Lots of people spent a long time sitting on the floor with me petting me and helping me feel more comfortable.

RaeLynne 13-338, Raye 13-322, and Joy also came over for some playtime last weekend. I am the one on the left as we trot around the yard.

Sweet Baby Raye was giving me some serious smooches since he was going to be leaving for his new home later in the week. I'm gonna miss that little boy.

Back at home, I am becoming more brave. I can now walk into the house with FM and my foster-sisters without being led on a leash, though FM thinks I am actually more confident on a leash. I am also learning the sweet simple pleasures of being a dog and scratching my back on the fence and rolling over in the yard.

On Thursday, I got to spend the day with RaeLynne, Joy, and Baylee at their house while FM was a work. FM said I needed to break out of my routine, mix things up and spread my wings! I have been there before and I know RaeLynne, so I was very comfortable. I pretty much just observed for the whole day and did not play, but the change of scenery was nice. Then on the way home, we stopped at my foster-cousin's to say hello and pick up Macie for an overnight with me. She is a happy little doodle and I like her too!

The biggest news of the week is that I am starting to engage in play in the backyard! Yup, you heard that right! I now do a combination bunny-hop and run in the backyard when my foster-sisters get the zoomies out in the the cool night air. When they are chasing each other, they zoom right in front of me, and I get all excited and start to give a little chase. Friday night, I ran with them for two small laps in the interior of the yard. I could see FM grinning from ear to ear, so I know I made her happy! So far, I have only done this in the nighttime when it is dark outside, so FM is waiting for me to show off during the daylight too. Normally, this behavior would not be a big deal for a normal Golden, but FM says for a puppy mill girl like me, this is a really big step.

I am still working on being brave when getting in and out of the car. FM has an SUV-type vehicle where the hatch opens up over my head. I really don't like stuff over my head and I cower. FM has to pick up my front legs and set them in the back, and then we just chill out like that for a few minutes. Then she picks up my back end and I dive for the back of the seat and plaster myself there. My foster-sister Lilly, who is also a PM girl, does the same thing, but she loves getting in and out of the car, so FM knows this takes a little time to work this out. We have a PetSTEP ramp too, and my foster-sister Kraelyn is happy to demonstrate how to use that, so that is another thing we are working on.

As for the medical stuff, my "no-more-puppies" surgery was postponed until this Monday, November 4th. So I get to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend while final yard chores are completed. That works for me -- Fresh Air, here I come! FM promised the pack extra walks too, which I TOTALLY LOVE. I do not like to walk close to parked cars, trash bins, and fire hydrants, so I keep my eyes open for those and move to the other side. FM says we will work on that too.

Just a reminder on what I will need in my forever home. Another medium or large confident dog that is playful and easy-going, a physical fence, no kids under 10, and lots and lots of love and patience as I work on my trust issues.

Have a great week, everyone.

Love,

Whitney
