Yogi 05-343

Profile

10/29/05: The boys (Zeus, Wilson & Yogi) arrived and are safe! All are VERY handsome! This is Yogi, DOB 12/19/03, whom RAGOM rescued from a breeder who was getting rid of his stock because he couldn't afford to heat the building they were in. Yogi seems shy, but not terrified, and really likes his buddy Wilson. We've given them 3 baths each (they smell so much better!!!!) and cut the chains off their necks. I scrubbed every square inch of them, the entire face, between each toe, private parts, picked them up so they would stand so I could rinse them off, and they put up with everything, with out any growling or even looking grumpy. Zeus seems real laid back, Wilson is just goofy and sweet and Yogi is scared to be approached at first, but then melts when you pet him. Fecals, vaccinations and neutering are set up for this week. They are all eating and doing well considering what they have been through. That's the update for now!

Happy Birthday Yogi! Yogi turns two years old today!!! Everyone will get a pig's ear tonight to celebrate the occasion.

It is so funny to watch Yogi lately (if you can watch him and not get caught watching him). He follows my two dogs' lead in so many things. If one has to do the 'doggie shake', Yogi will do one a few minutes later! If one barks at something outside, Yogi will bark a few seconds later. I'm sure you get the picture. He has really started to initiate playing with both of my dogs when they are outside, he absolutely loves to play chase! And of course, a good roll in the snow!

Yogi is coming into the house much faster now, it might have something to do with it being so cold outside. He has taken to following me wherever I go. He still won't come into bedrooms or bathrooms but once he sees that I am not leaving that room, he just hangs outside the door. Yogi does not like to go outside if I don't come out with them, which has been such a joy on these cold days to join them outside. Yogi has even started going downstairs to the basement with me. He actually is right at my side, I can rest my hand on his head but if I look down he heads right back upstairs!

Here are some pictures of Yogi being brave and sitting on the couch with me and some of the gang hanging in the snowy backyard!

Yogi continues to learn that the world is a safe place. He is really starting to initiate play with my Golden and loves to go running in the yard for a game of chase! He still will not come into the house if I am near the door but now once he decides to come in he stays in and does not go running back outside. Yogi is discovering what treats are, though he still won't take them from my hand. Yogi took a huge step yesterday afternoon, he came up to me and sniffed my knee before taking off for safety! He is feeling safer around me too, because he will now lay on the floor near me and relax and roll around like a pup!

Here is Yogi enjoying his first ever pig's ear. He wasn't sure what to do with it at first but after watching my two snarf theirs down, he figured it out! And the other picture is of Yogi in his safe spot, his crate.

Yogi arrived at our house Friday afternoon. What a sweet, shy boy he is.

Yogi is going to need some extra special loving care to come out of his shell. He gets along great with my two dogs but is scared of people. Coda even seems to understand that Yogi needs gentle handling and has not tried to force play with Yogi. In fact, Coda is helping me by letting Yogi see that people aren't going to hurt him. Coda and Nugget just soak up all the attention they are receiving for Yogi's benefit - of course they don't have to do anything special as they love attention! Yogi's safe spot is his crate and he observes a lot of what is happening between Nugget, Coda and I. Yogi is going to need another dog in his new family so he can learn what life is supposed to be like as a dog and some very patient loving humans to help his true 'Golden' spirit come out. He will also need a fenced in yard as he will not go potty for you if you are anywhere near him while outside.

We had a big step for Yogi yesterday - he started to eat hot dog bits out of my hand! I guess after awhile watching my two snack on those smelly treats, it did him in - the next thing I knew I had a very timid third nose there looking for treats. He still hides out in his crate for most of the time. He won't come in from the outside or eat his food if I am in the kitchen so that has made for a few interesting challenges (especially the not coming in from the outside) but we deal with them as they come up. Yogi does have some pretty bad ear infections in both ears, so when I can get close and pet him in his crate he has allowed me to put medicine in his ears, too.
