Buster 10-054 arrived at our house in Hanover, MN last Friday. He is a 7 year old, neutered, GR/Lab mix who weighs ~80 lbs.  He is UTD, on HW/Flea preventative, micro chipped and in perfect health.  In the few days we have had him here is what we learned:

·          He is potty trained
·          Respects baby gates
·          Has free roam day and night. Sleeps all night
·          Does not counter surf
·          He has no cat exposure and not much interaction with other dogs prior to fostering. He would prefer to be an only dog. Buster and resident dog pretty much ignore each other. Resident dog is wearing an e-collar/lamp shade and Buster is very respectful of that. 
·          Buster grew up with four kids and gets along great with my ten year old grandson.
·          Buster gets very excited when you first come home. He will jump up but not on you. He settles down as soon as you say hi to him. He is just so happy to see us.
·          Buster grew up with a fenced yard and would love a fenced in yard again but that wouldn’t be necessary. Here at the foster home he has to be on a tie out and doesn’t seem to mind. He sits nice to have the leash put on. He comes in the house and sits without being asked to have his leash taken off. He goes out and does his business and wants to go right back in the house. Unless he knows he is going for a walk.
·          He LOVES to go for walks. We go for one-two walks a day. He pulls when out on walks and we are working on that. He learns very quickly. He loves to run and play in the snow.
·          He loves to snuggle or just lay by you and be petted but is not a pest. When I’m cooking or cleaning he will go curl up somewhere and take a nap. He can curl up into the smallest ball.
·          He is very clean.
·          He loves to play with balls and stuffed animals.  Buster is really such an easy care free dog once he settles in and is a total sweetie and is happy to be wherever you are.

Hi, it’s me, Buster (10-054). Just wanted to tell let everyone in RAGOM land, know I’m doing fine!! Let me update you on my life….

It’s been a year since my ACL surgery and I’m doing well. Mom and dad had to take me out on a leash to do my business. I got to spend some quality time with my mom, because she was my physical therapist, massage therapist and cuddler all rolled into one.  It was a tough rehab, because what dog doesn’t want to run and play, but I came through it with flying colors. Now you wouldn’t even know I had surgery. Although, my parents don’t let me jump or run as much  :-(

I turned 9 in April, but you wouldn’t know it!  I can still keep up with my fur-sister Poppy, who’s about 3-4 years younger than me. Sometimes it’s a little harder for me to get up after I’ve been laying for a bit, but who doesn’t get stiff once in a while :-) My doctor told me I have some arthritis in my knees, so now I take a fish oil supplement and eat food with glucosamine. Sometimes my dad calls me “old geezer” or “grandpa”, but I know that’s because he loves me!!

We all went to Goldzilla and had a blast. My parents were a little worried about me, because sometimes when I’m on a leash, I can get a little snarky with other dogs. I was a little anxious at first, but then I was such a good boy, my parents thought someone switched me with another dog!! We talked to the lady who did my parents home visit. She was very pleased to see I was so happy with my family and my family with me.

Hey it’s me, Buster (10-054) and I’m doing my own update. My mom was going to do one for my one year anniversary, which was in March. Then she was going to write one for my 8th birthday, which was April 4th (I did get my special birthday treat-McDonald’s cheeseburger), but she still didn’t. So I said let me get my paws on that keyboard……

Did you know I have other names, too? My mom and dad call me Busboy, Bussy, Goofy 2 (Goofy 1 is Poppy) and Buspop (that’s what mom calls us when she can’t remember who she wants or if she’s talking to both of us).  I pretty much answer to anything!!

Well one of the most interesting things is that I like having a fursister. Poppy and I get along pretty well.  We play and chase each other, although I don’t like to share my toys, especially my Kong bowling pin.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my bowling pin, but it’s an outside toy, so I can’t play with it all the time L Getting back to us furkids, even though Poppy was here first, I’ve become the alpha dog. It’s all good! But my mom is the real Alpha in our family, because when mom speaks, we listen. We listen to dad, too, just not as much.

I had fun this winter running in the snow and eating it. Sometimes it was so deep that I would sink into it. I really love the Spring and can’t wait to start critter hunting again. Last year, we got 2 bunnies and 2 squirrels. Mom and dad asked which one of us got the critters, but It’s mine and Poppy’s secret.

Poppy and I also have had some adventures. A couple of times, mom and dad went on vacation, so we got to stay at a pet resort with an in-ground pool. We stay in the same room at night and get to play with all the other dogs during the days. Boy, are we tired when we get picked up!

Well, I just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I’m doing great.  Thanks RAGOM and foster mom and dad for helping my forever family find me.  Here are some pictures of ME!!

Buster (10-054) has been with us two months and each day he is becoming more comfortable. The night we brought him home, we found out he should have been named Houdini. I stopped at a gas station and my husband was in the front seat and Buster was in the back. A car pulled up next to us with a dog in it. While I was pumping gas, I could hear Buster barking at the dog. All of a sudden, his bark got louder and I couldn’t figure out why. Next thing I knew he was standing beside me!!! I thought my husband had let him out, but actually Buster had opened the door.  Now we both have the child locks activated on our vehicles.

He gets along well with his fur sister Poppy, who is also a rescue.  The first weekend we had Buster, he met his two fur cousins, Juneau and Ellie. He was well behaved although a little overwhelmed with all the attention he was getting from the girls.

Buster had his 7th birthday on April 4 and celebrated it in his usual style! His first family told his foster mom that he would get a McDonald’s cheeseburger for his birthday treat. So we continued the tradition and he loved it!!!!  He had to wait a little longer for his birthday present, which was a fence!! Now he and Poppy can run and chase each other.

Buster LOVES, LOVES to play fetch. He could play all day. He especially likes the fluorescent yellow Kong Bowling Pin and is going on his third one!! It’s funny to watch him and Poppy play, because Poppy doesn’t fetch. If she gets the bowling pin, she plays keep away from Buster. They run around the garden and will change direction midway. Poppy will stop and wait to see which direction Buster is going to come from. Sometimes they stand on each side of the garden, waiting for the other one to make the first move.  During all this, Poppy keeps the bowling pin in her mouth, until she tires or Buster can catch her. They are a couple tired dogs after this game.

Buster also loves to sleep on our bed rather than his own! Try getting a 75lb dog off the bed, when he doesn’t want to go.

Tonight, we found out that Buster is afraid of storms. Talk about a Velcro dog!!

Early on, we found out Buster loves damp towels after someone’s shower. He will bury his face and burrow gleefully into the towels!!

He is a slow learner with the Gentle Leader, but is getting better each time.

My stepson calls Buster a “Quality Canine”!  This title fits him well. He is becoming more comfortable in his home and we are glad to be part of his life.

Buster continues to be a very good Foster.   He has settled right into our routine and learns very quickly.  He needs to continue with his obedience training and now that he has taught Foster Mom how to use the gentle leader our walks are MUCH better and more enjoyable.  Thank You to Konnie S., Kim, Kimmer B., and Jenny K. for all your help on teaching Buster and Foster mom the ins and outs of the Gentle Leader.  

Buster gets along good with Resident dog and is very respectful of Resident dog’s food dishes.  Buster waits his turn for treats.  Oh Yah and LOVES to be Vacuumed.  He will walk up to you when you are vacuuming and stand like a perfect gentleman while you take the hose of the vacuum and run it all over his back and sides.  He also has a beauty mark on his tongue. He has free roam of the house while we are at work and there has never been an issue.  He likes to watch the squirrels but doesn’t bark or go crazy to get after them.  He just observes.  Buster is a snuggle butt and will sit and watch an entire movie with you.  He loves, loves, LOVES to play tug- o-war with resident dog.  If you are looking for a care free dog Buster’s the one for you.
