Darby has been adopted where his human is home most of the day. I brought Darby over to the adopter's house to fill out the paperwork, and he was already rolling on his back for belly rubs from her.

Here's Darby! A cute 5 year old Golden mix, full of energy. Darby was well cared for at his previous home, but with their busy schedule felt Darby deserved more attention. Darby's nickname could be called Wiggles. Whenever we come back home from being away, he must grab a toy in his mouth and whine with excitement; we get a kick out of him. Here's a link to a video (sorry for the bad lighting but he's the one with the dinosaur toy in his mouth).
Darby is:
House trained: Can have free roam in house when gone, doesn't like crates.
Dog friendly: Can be overly energetic towards other dogs but listens to their signals to back down.
Cat friendly: Is curious about our cat but hasn't shown any aggression or prey drive towards our cat.
Kid friendly: He previously lived with some youngsters and did fine, but since Darby moves around quickly, it would be best to live with older kids.
Leash trained: Will pull on leash during walks; he probably would love a running partner.
Darby likes:
Car rides: It was noted during long car trips he gets car sick. We've done shorter car rides and has done fine.
Toys: He keeps himself occupied with a bone to chew on or toy to squeak. Haven't seen any resource guarding with toys/bones with humans or dogs.
Belly rubs: Darby loves hands on him. If petting him, he will roll over for belly rubs. Every night he does sleep on our bed; he's small enough he doesn't take up space. It might break his heart if he couldn't snuggle with you on the bed.
The only thing Darby needs to work on is his manners. He does tend to jump on people when excited.
He is 35 lbs; in one of the pictures you can see his size compared to our 60 lb resident dog, Mollie. Another plus for his small size, he doesn't counter surf. At his wellness check, the doctor found no health concerns.
Darby is full of personality and overall a great dog. We enjoy fostering Darby, but know he will make a family happy.

Thank you Melanie F. for thinking of Darby this past holiday season and decorating his page with a holiday icon in memory of Dewey Riley!
We took a trip earlier in the month and the resident and foster dogs went to separate places for 4 days. Once everyone got back together, I could see Darby was a little nervous and needed to take the day to adjust being back in the pack. Other than that Darby has been getting along exceptionally well with the other resident dogs.
If you're looking to adopt your next fur-kid, Darby would fulfill that. I think he would prefer a quieter home as he seems sensitive to loud, foreign noises. He will snuggle with you every night for bedtime. We like to cradle him like a little baby. He would like to go on car rides with you.
Here is a video of Darby chasing a Chuckit ball in our backyard. Half the time he does take interest in chasing the ball, which is fun to see him run fast and leap like a deer. The other times he'll randomly drop the ball and leave it at the other end of the yard.

It's been about a month that we have had Darby. Darby lived as an only dog his whole life until he came into foster care; suddenly he lived with 3 other dogs. One thing we have noticed with him, when meeting new dogs, he likes to do the sniffing towards other dogs, but when dogs do that to him, he gets quite snarky towards the new dog. Another example, when the resident dogs start roughhousing, Darby has no problem getting in on the action towards them, but when they turn the attention on him sometimes he'll cry out even though they weren't aggressive towards him. Basically I am saying, Darby is sensitive with other dogs. He would do great as an only dog or with a calm dog that wouldn't pay attention to him. Darby is much more of a people's dog.
Darby doesn't like loud noises at all. When vacuuming, he would run all over the house like a nervous wreck. Now when vacuuming, I let him hang out in the backyard until I am done. Over Thanksgiving on Black Friday , we got a pressure cooker. We never used one before, but discovered at the end of the bake time, you release the pressure and it lets out a hissing noise. Not good for Darby. I have used the pressure cooker a few times now, and even turning on the machine, Darby knows what it does, and he gets nervous. One time he was shaking when the meat was cooking, and we didn't even release the pressure yet. Poor guy. So now when we use the pressure cooker, we let him outside before we manually release the pressure.
Darby does not require a fence. If I recall correctly, at his surrendering owner's home, he would stay in the front yard all by himself without having to be tied up. A few times I have noticed Darby's signal to go potty is to stand by the door. When Darby is let outside for potty, he is usually the first one back at the door barking to let us know to let him back in. It's fun to watch Darby get the zoomies in the backyard, he is super fast.
