Ragom is very pleased to welcome back Abby -- and I am pleased as can be to foster her again.  Abby came back to Ragom because her owner's health no longer allowed her to care for Abby in the way she wanted.  Abby has been well-cared for and well-loved and it shows.  She's a delightful girl as our earlier write-ups indicate.  She is that perfect mix of playful and calm, and very loving.  She gets along famously with both our male and female resident dogs and she absolutely loves playing with our youngest dog.  The two of them are often seen playing tug of war and wrestling on the floor and in general having a great time playing games that only they understand.  Lots of good play-inviting behavior and it's absolutely great to see.

Abby is wonderful with people too -- very loving and very much the Velcro dog.  When she's not playing she would love to snuggle on the couch or just sit on the floor next to you.  She does the golden nudge to remind you when it's time to pet her and if you don't figure it out she will talk with you.  I admit that I had forgotten this about Abby and the first time she did this I thought she was growling at me.  She was looking at me very seriously, making eye contact in a meaningful way, being very loving and waging her tail and then there was this talking/growl.  She gave me time to figure it out and then she talked/growled and wagged her tail again.  And then I remembered.  When she does that she either wants 1) to be petted, 2) to be fed, 3) to go outside.  It's not complicated to figure out once you remember why she talks!  It's one of her most endearing traits!

Abby has been to the vet and received a clean bill of health although she does need to lose a few pounds, something we're already working on -- Abby really loves her food and treats!  Abby is reported to have mild seizures, about twice a year - we have not experienced any of that with her yet. She is current on her shots, is on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative as well.  Tomorrow  she goes to the groomer so she will be ready to receive company.  Abby has great house manners - she hasn't had an accident and is not protective of her toys or food.  She enjoys exploring our fenced yard, checking out all the good spring scents and rolling in the grass.  She's very easy to please and very easy to live with -- she's a happy girl who is extremely anxious to please her people.  She sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom and when she gets hot, she moves to the bathroom.  We know she'd like to sleep up on the bed with us and she's been known to quietly jump up in the early morning for a snuggle, something we think is just fine!

Abby's owner indicated that Abby can be frightened of storms and when that happens she likes to wear a Thundershirt to keep her calm.  We've had two storms since she's been here - the first was at in the middle of the night and Abby quickly jumped up on the bed to ride out the storm.  The other was in the early evening and she was really not bothered at all - she even went outside to do her business during the rain and thunder.  It could be that we just haven't had a storm of significant impact to cause her any concern yet.

Abby is a delightful girl, she's a calm and happy girl who trusts her people and enjoys the company of both dogs and people alike.  We'd like to see Abby go to a house where there's another dog to play with and have for company as that seems to bring her such joy.  If you have a place in your home and heart for this wonderful 8 1/2 year old girl, please contact your Placement Advisor.
