RAGOM has welcomed Georgia. She is an  18 month old female Golden/lab mix. She has been seen by a vet and brought up to date with her vaccinations and microchipped.  She will be spayed.  Here is her story.

Meet Georgia, a 40-45 lb lab/golden mix.  After her owner passed away, his family arrived and boarded up his trailer and left her there to fend for herself.  The neighbors were aware of this poor homeless dog and reached out to her, feeding her.  There was staff at  a  Dialysis Clinic who were loving on her too.  Georgia is very friendly and trusting.  T he local rescue was notified.   It was said, when they pulled up to the abandoned trailer she ran right out and hopped in the car! "She was so joyful, she almost knocked me over, easiest rescue ever!!"

Georgia is now with RAGOM and in foster care.  She's been in my home for a little over a week and she is very special.  She bonded with me, she's kind and gentle. Georgia is very friendly and social.  Always wagging her tail.  She brings joy to me and people who meet her. This is truly a very nice, well behaved dog. Pretty mellow, not at all roudy.

Georgia is very easy, she's house trained.  There has not been a single accident.  I don't kennel her, so she has the run of the house.  She is not destructive. Shoes on the floor, no problem, she's not even interested.  There hasn't been any counter surfing or trash digging,

She would be happy living with a person or family, with or without children and a secure fenced in yard because she loves to be outside.  We get out for a walk a couple times a day and she's good on the leash.  Georgia would make an awesome sister to another dog.  Hasn't been cat tested yet.

Georgia is adopted now and very content in her fenced in back yard.  It gives me so much joy to see her in this picture.  I will miss this little one so much.  Georgia is a healthy 2 year old who should enjoy a good life with her new mama.   My love goes with you, Georgia.  Hope I get to see you again.

I had the pleasure of caring for Georgia 15-028 for 10 days while her foster mom was out of town.  What a sweetheart!  Georgia has a kind heart, and just wants to be loved by her very own humans.

During Georgia’s stay, she easily adjusted to the routine of her temporary household.  I was happy to see her eat and drink normally once she settled in.  There were no accidents and no destruction inside or out – Georgia is a polite young lady.  With the promise of a treat, Georgia willingly entered her crate and hung out there for 4-7 hours each weekday.  I don’t believe that Georgia is crated in her usual foster home.  But I wanted to try it, and am happy to report that it was an easy adjustment with treats and lots of positive reinforcement.

Initially, Georgia seemed a bit unhappy about having to share affection/attention with my resident dog Willow 13-137.   Willow is a confident, dog-savvy, and pretty mellow 10 year old golden who is accustomed to sharing and earning privileges.  Willow helped Georgia figure out that there were plenty of belly scratches, etc., to go around.  While I think that Georgia would prefer to be an only dog in her forever home, with time and patience, I think she could also appreciate taking cues from another confident and mellow pup.    Georgia is a sweet girl who just wants to please her people.

ello again from Georgia and me.  She has the cutest face. In this picture she is perked up because we are approaching the park that we walk in everyday.  Otherwise, when in the car she is usually laying down or sitting to see where we are going. Now that the weather is nice, sometimes she puts her head out the window.  I've been training her on the gentle leader on our walks in the park.  She is getting used to it.

Georgia is extremely affectionate and obedient.  She loves all human contact, doesn't need to be the center of attention like many dogs under the age of 2 and she's never been destructive of anything in the house or in the yard.  She hasn't displayed resource guarding, counter surfing or trash digging.  She is friendly towards everyone and people really, really like her.  I think Georgia would do great with a single person or a couple with or without children.  Ideally having a fenced in yard and being the one and only pet.

I think that Georgia has come a long way since she was put out in the dead of winter and abandoned to fend for herself. Georgia is very affectionate and loving.  Her mannerisms are gentle and mello.  She has a scamper, sometimes darts when walking on the leash, but controllably.  She has some leash reactivity when she sees other dogs but does fine off leash in dog groups.  Georgia loves to be outdoors in the yard.  I walked her around a lake on a beautiful spring day and let her jump in.  She wanted to play in it, she scampered.  Now that it's warmer, she wants to lay on the steps and take a nap. She's gotten used to the cable that I have to hook her up too.  Wish I had a fenced in yard, that would be ideal for her.  Georgia is very obedient.  She is very easy going and friendly towards people.  Georgia has been cat tested and she wasn't interested in them.  I have seen some storm anxiety.  She wants to crawl under the bed or go into a closet.  At night she likes to lay in bed with me and then eventually jumps off and sleeps on her bed on the floor. She gets so excited to ride along in the car.  A couple of times she has had car sickness. Another foster mom gave me a tip to put drops of peppermint on a piece of cotten and place it in the airvent, that will help. I've done that and I think it has helped.  The added benefit is that my car smells great!!

Not only is she beautiful, but I think that Georgia is an incredibly sweet and gentle dog.  She is very well behaved.  Is eating and drinking right, has a nice coat and is an alert and happy, active young dog.   She gives love and she wants to please me, always. Sleeps on the floor in her own bed all night long.  She has the run of the house.  Georgia has never caused any damage to anything.

Although I say she is well behaved, she needs some training and she's very smart, so she will learn.  Before Georgia was rescued, I think that it's doubtful she was ever walked on a leash, but it's not hard to walk her. I walk her everyday, sometimes more than once.  Noisy cars, busses etc make her fearful and skittish.  So, I'm working with her and taking her to different neighborhoods, trails and parks to get her used to city noises.  She likes to ride in the car, at times she has car sickness. She has never snarled, growled or snapped at me or any person she has met since I've known her.  Unprovoked, Georgia has snapped at some dogs when I've been at the introduction.  Maybe that's because I was there.  However at the boarding kennel, I was told that they put her in the play room first, then let other dogs join her, that introduction worked very well.
