Chance had a bath in the kiddie pool last weekend. He wasn't too excited about being forced in and having to stay in there while we lathered him up, but he was cooperative. He was happy when the bath was over and he could romp and play and roll around to dry off. He is such a sweet boy, he just needs to get comfortable in his surroundings. He enjoys being outside and going for walks and greeting us when we get home. He loves laying in our bed with or without us, but he usually doesn't lay on the couch. We also have discovered his hidden talent - catching popcorn! Thanks for checking in on Chance, stay tuned!

Chance continues to patiently wait for his forever family. It's really amazing just how far he has come in the few months we have had him. He really seems to thrive in a situation where he has a daily routine and a confident dog he can learn from. He is now imitating a lot of the behavior (good and not so good) that we see in our other dogs. Good behavior includes being social and excited when we get home and going to his kennel when it is time for us to leave. The not so good behavior is mainly limited to his enjoyment of eating mulch in our flower beds (something he definitely learned from one of our resident dogs), but it's hard to be mad when we remember just how scared he was when he started fostering him.
Chance is really enjoying the nicer weather and spending more time outside. We know he would love enjoy the rest of the remaining warm weather with his forever family.

It sounded like Chance did pretty well at his temporary foster's house while we were on vacation for 2 weeks. It took him a few days to get comfortable there, but they felt he settled in nicely. There were a couple days that they couldn't convince him to come back in the house. We aren't sure if there was something that spooked him or if he was really enjoying being outside. There was also a three year old neighbor that he wasn't sure what to do with, having her at the fence and running around made him nervous and he did growl. He has been around our young nieces at our house and has done fine, so it may have been an issue of new environment and new people.
Chance did well with the two dogs there. He wanted to play more than they did, but I don't think he drove them too crazy! It was obvious that he had a lot of fun in their big yard, romping, rolling in dirt, checking out the sand and lake, and he thought he could walk on water and fell off the dock. It looked like it was his first time swimming but he made it out and was willing to go back on the dock and near the water. Chance also had fun playing with the humans and allowed them to give him pets. There were some thunderstorms too, but these didn't seem to scare him. On the drive home he fell asleep in the car for the first time. We are so glad that Chance adjusted well to this new situation and had fun! We missed him like crazy.

Chance has been doing wonderfully. He has gotten used to us and our home and has really opened up to us. It is hard to tell when he is with us that he was once a very scared dog. He no longer cowers when we reach to pet him, he loves snuggling in bed with us, he enjoys walks, he likes to hop around and play a little bit, and he is VERY excited to greet us when we get home. It has been so nice to see him blossom. New people and new places still make him uneasy, but it just takes him time to learn that it is a safe environment. He has an excellent opportunity to experience new people and a new place because he is staying with another foster in Fergus Falls while we are on vacation for two weeks. We can't wait to hear how he does, but we are definitely going to miss him. He's a great dog. Here is a picture of him riding in the car to the sitter. Stay tuned!

Chance has been with us for 2 months now and we can't figure out why someone hasn't snatched him up!
He is a very sweet and mellow dog, and just needs a fence and a fur sibling. Chance went to the vet last week for repeat chest x-rays because the ones he had when he was thought to have heartworm showed some possible abnormalities. These chest x-rays noted some narrowing of his airways, but he is not symptomatic and the radiologist said it could be related to living somewhere where there is a lot of irritants in the air (likely in Alabama because our air in Fargo and in our home is pretty clean). He recommended repeating the chest x-rays in 6 months to see if this has improved.
On the way into the vet, Chance pooped in the parking lot, which is what he does when he is nervous going somewhere new. He has not had any accidents in the house or in the car. He weighed 55 pounds at the vet but could still stand to gain a few.
Contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet Chance!
He is patiently waiting to start his new life. Just look how cute he is!

Chance is still here in Fargo patiently waiting for his Forever Family to find him and for the grass to turn green so he can stand out in his pictures! He has been for more walks with our pack and is still doing great, you just have to be sneaky about getting the leash on. Chance requires a physical fence in his Forever Home because he is skittish, but also because it is difficult to get a leash on him and take him out without him getting scared. Hopefully, he will eventually get used to a leash, but for now it works better to open the door and let him follow the other dogs out.
Chance had some tummy troubles and went back to the vet where we found out he still has hookworms and some bacteria. He will get his last medication for that on Monday 3/30 and needs a fecal recheck in a few weeks. It didn't take him long to start feeling better and he has been eating much better too.
Chance is a very sweet dog and we so enjoy having him with us, but we would love for him to have a family to call his own with a fur sibling to show him the Golden life.

Chance wanted to let everyone know that he enjoyed the Spring like weather we had here for the last week! He even was able to go for nice long walks. However, Chance gets scared when we walk towards him with a leash, so getting the leash on is the tricky part. Once the leash is on he walks really well, he is a little scared and walks right behind us like he is hiding, but he seems to enjoy it at the same time and doesn't pull. It's so nice to see him coming out of his shell and romping in the yard. We had a young puppy visit for a couple days and he did ok with her although he eventually grew tired of her sharp puppy teeth. He does shed his fur but since it is shorter he doesn't require much for grooming. That's all for now! Chance would really like to find his forever family and go for walks with them!

Chance has been doing well here in Fargo. He even attended a RAGOM Meet and Greet at Petco. He was pretty nervous at the event, but he did great! When he is scared he trembles, paces and pants. Occasionally he may have a pee or poop accident when he is scared. He eventually settled in at the Meet and Greet and wanted to smell people and was ok with getting pets from people. He did great with all the other dogs and we are so proud with him. Chance also walks nicely on a leash. Here are some photos of this cutie at the Meet and Greet!

Chance has some very exciting and unexpected news to share with you! At the vet they did a more definitive heartworm test to confirm his positive diagnosis, but it came back NEGATIVE! Such good news for this boy. Now he does not have to go through the long, expensive, and uncomfortable treatment and activity restrictions. Better yet, this means he is ready for his Forever Family now! He has been celebrating this news by playing with our resident dogs and romping in the snow when it is not too cold here. He has also learned to enjoy the comforts of snuggling in bed.
Chance has only been with us for 2 weeks, but he has really come out of his shell. He still gets startled when you walk or reach towards him, but he spends all of his time near us or following us around. It warms our hearts just to see him wagging his tail. He does well being kenneled when we are gone, however if you leave anything in the kennel with him he may destroy it. He has not chewed on anything else around the house though. He also has not had any accidents in the house. He goes outside with the other dogs to do his business and then comes back in. We have only heard him bark once. He is pretty quiet and really easy to have around. Chance needs a family to love him and show him he can trust people, let us know if that could be you!
Thank you Lily Dale, Ziggy, and Bo for the Valentine Icon! Chance feels so special!
