We've enjoyed Lucy's presence for about 6 weeks now, and we've discovered more of her great qualities and needs for a family. Lucy needs:
- A very active family. Lucy loves going on long walks (minimum 3 miles a day); hiking; swimming; playing fetch. She's very athletic and nimble, and could probably be a short stop on a professional baseball team! Ideally a family that is into outdoor activities (camping, hiking, boating, etc). She becomes very bored and antsy if she can't get outside.
- A confident dog owner. Lucy is drawn towards, and responds better to, individuals who are more of a leader. She's very much a pack animal and needs to know where she stands in that hierarchy.
- Along with that confidence, a patient family. She does have dog reactivity issues, so she needs a family that will continue consistent training and praising. She's very smart, so we believe her training really will fix these issues. She's actually shown reasonably good behavior around our neighbor's large dog between our shared fence, as long as she's supervised.
- She has good callback, and will hang around you without wandering far. However, she is very reactive to birds, small critters, and dogs, so a fenced-in yard is a must and she should remain on-leash for walks to prevent bolting.
Lucy has a morning routine of gently nudging you awake when it's time to get up (she loves sticking to a routine). She also has a very silly side, and will do random, funny things like hopping in our bathtub. Swimming and playing fetch in the lake is her greatest love. She's definitely an active and playful dog!
