"Good Luck, Max, with surgery and dental work! In memory of my sweet Golden girls Tundra (my little nurse and hunter) and Teton (my sweet comfort dog, Baby-T). Their paw prints will forever be in my heart."

Meet Max, a 7 year old Golden Retriever that looks like a little fuzzy bear.

Max was surrendered to RAGOM because he broke out of his invisible fence to chase one particular woman on a bike and made contact with her ankle. Since the lady lived in the area, the SO was forced to surrender. It was noted that he didn't chase other bikers that went by, just that one lady. Max had lived on a lake, were he was also loved by all the cabin owners and kids in the area.

Max is very easy going. He met my two dogs (male and female) with no issues. When my resident dog Mollie, first saw him from inside the fence, she was barking like crazy and that didn't bug him one bit. It's been a couple weeks and everyone gets along great, even with the cats! He hasn't taken interest in playing with the resident dogs. Only one time, for 15 seconds though, Mollie was trying to play with him. I started to see a play bow from him, but the other resident dog, Ollie, barged in. He loves tennis balls and so do my dogs. There has been only a couple of little growls from Max over tennis balls. But to resolve that problem, I make sure we have plenty of tennis balls in the house (as they tend to make there way outside but not back in.) Other than that, he hasn't shown resource guarding over food or other toys.

Max weighs in at 70lbs. He currently is being treated for an ear infection. When at the vet for his wellness check, we noticed in his mouth a mass and fractured tooth. He is scheduled July 22, to remove the mass and to further inspect the fractured tooth. The mass will be sent in to be tested.

When taking walks, he does pretty well on the flat collar. One time we saw a couple of kids riding around on their bike and Max had no reaction to them. The neighborhood we walk in is about a mile or so. Towards the end of the walk, he gets a little tired and starts walking behind us. He is completely housebroken and we have started to let him have free roam with the other 2 dogs when we are gone (up to 8 hours.) Max loves to play fetch inside the house as well as outside. He gets super pumped up when getting ready to play fetch outside. I've seen him do some twirls and jumping up and down.

Max is quite well behaved. No counter surfing or chewing on things he shouldn't. He loves a good petting but isn't pushy about it. That can be nice especially when there are multiple dogs in the house. Max hasn't gone up on the couch or bed unless we invite him. So typically he tends to lay on the floor or his dog bed (which will be going with him to his forever home.)

Please note, we would like Max to go to a home with a physical fence. Just to make sure he doesn't chase anyone else on a bike.

Updates

I’m Deb H, proud owner of 2 Golden’s from RAGOM. I’m going to give you the basics and then when I have more time will update more of their stories. I’m grieving over both of their deaths right now.

Unfortunately, they both died of cancer in last 6 weeks.

First, Buddy 16-203 who we re-named “Teddy” as he was a special and gentle as a teddy bear. Adopted at 11.5 years old. Puppy mill all his life. Lived with me one year and enjoyed the golden life for the last year of his life. Developed 4 types of cancer in his body that became painful.  Put to sleep peacefully to take away his pain and suffering in his bed the end of Dec. 2017 with his family around him. A vet came to my home from Blue Sky’s Per Home Euthanasia Service. Teddy called “Mr. Spice”will be missed greatly.
Teddy was 12.5 years old.

Second, Max 13-185 died on Friday, Feb. 9th, two days ago. My fuzzy bear special guy I adopted when Max was 7 years old. Max is world famous for his ability to put 3 balls in his mouth all by himself! He lived for his tennis balls, food and me. Max recently developed lymphoma and a adrenal tumor that involved a major blood vessel. He had just started with one chemo treatment for cancer and 5 days later developed a life threatening painful infection and 105 temp from the side effects of the chemo therapy . He was put to sleep to take away his pain and suffering peacefully at home in his bed with all of his family around him. I used a mobile home euthanasia vet service called MN Pets. My special Max called  “Mr. Handsome“ and “Max to the Max” will be greatly missed forever. Max was 12 years old.

Max who is 7 years old has been at his forever home for a week now. He is doing great with his new surroundings and his new golden and lab buddies!

Max was seen at my vet at the U of MN vet hospital for a checkup. He has some arthritis in his left elbow which we'll treat with fish oil and as needed Rimadyl. He also requires some additional dental work. He did very well meeting the new vet and support staff.

I really appreciate and want to thank all the volunteers that helped with Max's care from the surrendering, transporting, home visit, and fostering. A special thank you to Anji who fostered Max.

I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to adopt Max! I will always take good care of him.

Thank you,

Deb H.

Max loves living at his new forever home. He just loves all of his balls. Always wants to be outside enjoying his new friends and all of his balls.

Max continues to be an easy going kind of guy.

Max's surgery went well on Monday and got a call on Wednesday from the vet that the mass was benign. He also got his teeth cleaned, which now look quite dazzling. At this time, the doctor didn't feel it was necessary to pull the fractured tooth. I was told that this is something that will have to be monitored. The vet technicians thought Max was a real sweet guy. They couldn't believe the reason he was surrendered (for chasing the woman on the bike and bit her ankle.) They had a small chuckle and were like, "What did that lady do to you Max?"

Max has been here for almost a month now. I have noticed he's following me around the house more. Sometimes I go up and down the stairs 2-4 times while getting ready for work, each time he'll follow me.

Max has had a few baths. One time I took him to a self washing station over at my local pet store. I was actually surprised he climbed up the metal stair and into the tub by himself. With my dogs I have to carry them into the tub. When clipping his nails, he is a wiggler. So I had to have my boyfriend help me hold him still and then it was easy to get the job done.

This past Sunday, Max and I went to a RAGOM meet and greet in Blaine. He met all the dogs with no problems and was great with the little kids.

Max also met a very special lady. He made quite the impression on her because on the day of his surgery, I looked on his web page to find he had a sponsor from Deborah!
Thanks Deborah for thinking about this special guy and helping out with his medical expenses.

If things couldn't get even more exciting for Max, this coming Sunday we are meeting with Deborah to see how well he fits in with her crew.
