Red 11-210

Profile

I have the great pleasure of introducing 6 year old Red (also known as Red-Dog, Reddy, and Boo-Boo-Bear) to all of you RAGOM fans! Red is a smaller boy, weighing approximately 68#. He is a gorgeous, deep red color (of course!), and has the most adorable block head and huge paws – makes him look like an overgrown puppy! Red was turned over to RAGOM to get the medical care and attention that he needed. Though we know it was a very difficult decision for his previous family, we promise to take very good care of him, and find him a perfect forever home!

Medically, Red is suffering from allergies, which have led to rather severe infections of his skin and left ear, as well as numerous large hot spots. He has now been placed on several medications to get the infections and inflammation under control, and has been switched to a healthier, grain free diet. The vet had to shave several parts of his body to address the hot spots, so he is not only sporting a spiffy new haircut, but a nice white t-shirt to keep him from licking those spots! I’m already seeing great improvement in just 3 days, and I can tell he is feeling much more comfortable. It is amazing to me what a good boy he has been throughout this whole process! He is also heartworm, fecal, and Lyme’s negative, is up to date on his shots, is microchipped, and will be getting neutered in the near future.

Red-Dog is literally one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs that I have ever had the joy to meet! He has only been with us a few days, but he has captivated us with his soft eyes, paw bats for attention, numerous kisses, and his overall gentle demeanor. Oh, yes, and he absolutely adores tummy rubs! When we return from being out, he greets us with joyful little whimpers, and his tail wags so hard that his whole body quivers. Yes, I’m madly in love with another foster of mine – but believe me, he deserves it!

Red is excellent with children of all ages, and gets along very well with the residents, Belle and Bear, and has had no trouble with meeting other dogs in the neighborhood. Per his previous owner, he also has no issue with cats, having lived with several in his prior home. He walks beautifully on a leash, which completely surprised me, but what a pleasure! He totally enjoys our twice daily walks, and is already starting to show the excitement the resident dogs do when they know it’s walk time! Red is also fabulous in the car – no problems whatsoever. He apparently also loves to swim, but I haven’t had the opportunity to check that out with him. Oh – and you should see him play fetch! He tumbles all over himself to get the ball, roars right back, and literally spits it out at my feet – it’s fabulous!!

Red comes from a rural setting, and spent the bulk of his life outdoors. However, he has adjusted extremely well to living inside, has had no accidents, and has made himself very much at home on our couch, which is just fine with us! When we are gone, we are still confining him to our laundry room with a gate, but I expect that we won’t need to do that after a few more days. We have given him free roam the rest of the time and at night, and have had no issues at all. I simply can’t say enough good things about our boy!

Red won’t be able to go home with his forever family until we get his health issues under control, as well as getting him neutered, but I would be happy in the meantime to accept applications and meet prospective adopters. This is one fabulous, sweet boy – please contact your placement advisor if you think you are the perfect family for our very special Red-Dog!

Updates

My sweetest boy, Red, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 27, 2018. We had almost seven wonderful years together after I adopted him in July of 2011. He had been fostered by Kris (Nelson, I think).

He was the best boy ever. We came together in the wake of my sister’s passing from ovarian cancer. I know you hear this often, but it was really he who rescued me. If there is such a thing as people-dog soulmates, he was mine.

Our hearts are broken but will be forever full from the unconditional love and joy he brought to our lives. He was such a funny, soulful companion. He loved walks, playing ball, riding in the car - but mostly he loved being with his people. And we loved being with him. There really are no words to express how much we miss him.

I am forever grateful for his family that made the very hard decision to surrender him - I’d love them to know he was well loved and well cared for - and to RAGOM for providing him (and all the other dogs) a safe haven when he needed it and an avenue for me to meet and adopt Red. I’ve loved him with all my heart.

Rest In Peace my sweetest pea, my peanut butter cup, my best boy, Auntie Mary’s Romeo, and my best buddy. I’ll see you on the other side.

Thank you, RAGOM, for bringing Red into my life.

Here is my buddy, Red - aka peanut butter cup, sugar pop, skunky monkey (yes, that is true occasionally), and honey pot - he is the best dog ever. As you can see, he enjoys the winter walks - before & after! It took awhile, but I think we finally have his allergies under control. I love him to pieces...I think the feeling is mutual! Thanks, Ragom.

Here I am - happy, healthy & content! I hope all Ragom dogs can find a person to rescue like I did! Happy holidays from me & my Mom.

Our sweet, incredible Red-dog has been adopted by the most wonderful Mom! When I brought him to visit, he cuddled right up with her as if he knew she was the one he was waiting for, and I’d have to say the feeling was mutual! She is so committed to taking care of all of his health needs, and I have no hesitation whatsoever leaving him in her hands. He has a wonderful house to roam around in, and an even better fenced-in back yard with all sorts of sniffables to play in – what a lucky boy! My heart and my house are feeling empty without you, sweet boy, but I’m thrilled that you’ve found your perfect forever home! Congratulations to Pam and to Red!

What is more fun than two stinky wet dogs at the lake? If you guessed three stinky wet dogs at the lake you are right! Fabulous Red is staying with us while his foster family is on vacation. Here's what we can tell you about Red!

  • Red met the resident girls, Bailey (10) and Josie (2), without a problem. Red really likes the girls if ya know what I mean! Once he is neutered his love of the ladies should diminish.
  • Due to his love of the ladies we decided to crate Red in our bedroom at bedtime so everyone would get a good night's sleep. Red isn't crazy about going in the crate, but once in he sleeps quietly through the night. One night we had strong storms complete with power failure and not a peep out of him.
  • I am easily able to walk the three dogs together. Red walks nicely with a flat collar.
  • I was brushing Red (he loves to be brushed) and for some reason the resident cat decided to march around on top of us. Red has no issues with cats! And the cat had no problem marching around on top of Red. I'm not quite sure what was up with the resident cat that day.
  • After the stormy night there were lots of branches to pick up. Red stayed very close while I did clean up. It will be up to Red's foster family to determine whether or not he needs a fence, but it's my guess they'll say a fence isn't necessary.
  • Red loves the water and is a very strong swimmer. He jumped off the dock a couple of times but he'd rather run back to the beach and enter the water from land. He's a great water retriever.
  • After swimming I gave Red a bath in our outdoor shower. Red sat, put his head way back with his nose to the sky, and closed his eyes while I scrubbed. It was a look of pure bliss.
  • Red is our shadow, where we go he goes! He's a sweetheart.
  • Red's hot spots and ear infection are looking great! Resident Josie just went through a bout with hot spots so we know how nasty they can be.

Red's foster family will be home soon and would love to hear from you! If you are interested in learning more about Red please contact your placement advisor.

Just a quick update on our Red-Dog! I thought I’d show you all some before and after pictures, so that you can see the changes that have occurred with Red in just under one week! It’s amazing, and he is doing so well!

Before... (old neck)

Now!

Before... (old body)

Now!

I also finally managed to snap a picture of Red with both of his foster siblings, Belle and Bear, relaxing on the deck. He wants to make sure that you know he is the happy, ultra handsome guy on the left!

We will be going out of town for a couple of days the early part of next week, and lucky Red will get to visit some cousin foster siblings, Josie and Bailey, at the lake! I’m sure there will be some great pictures from that visit! When we return, he will be going to the vet, and we will get a game plan as to how to continue to successfully manage his symptoms, and will also set a date in the very near future for his neuter and possible extraction of one tooth. Check back soon for more updates! Until then, one final look at this gorgeous boy!
