Peyton (Shazzy 09-172)

Profile

Meet Shazzy or as we call him Shaz Ma Taz. He is a beautiful 3 to 4 year old Golden Lab Mix that was found as a stray in Iowa. Many thanks to all the wonderful RAGOM volunteers who had a hand in getting him vetted and transported to Eagan. And special thanks to Connie who has been there for Shazzy all the way.

He is estimated to be 3 or 4 years old and is a very laid back boy. He knows some simple commands but is not always very willing to act on them when asked. We are working on that along with some simple manners around dinner time. He does like to eat. He weighs 83.5 pounds and it seems to be a good weight for him. He loves to eat and is an absolute dream to walk. Heels nicely and LOVES it when that leash comes out. He and I have been sleeping on the floor together so I can keep him from licking his neuter incision. It was infected but is looking really good today. I think we have turned the corner and it will now heal nicely. He has met many dogs and has gotten along with all of them. I heard that he does well with cats, (He kissed one at the shelter! How cute!) but would certainly cat test him if you have a resident cat.

I think he should go to a home with older kids. He hears kids in the neighborhood and it is quite possible that he lived with kids in the past. But he is a big boy and will sneak out the door if it is left open too long. I do not know how he would do on recall as he does not know his name and I do not have a fence so I cannot take that chance. He also could very well knock them over.

He is a very happy boy and I know he looks forward to having his very own family to spend time with. If interested in this boy and you are approved, please let your placement advisor know.

I am sure you will be hearing from him soon. He watches every move as I type so I think soon he will be sitting in this chair.

I wanted RAGOM to know that on 02/12/18, I made the decision to let Peyton (f/k/a Shazzy) go - he went peacefully.   In December of 2017, he was diagnosed with megaesophagus (no apparent cause, i.e., idiopathic).  We were also dealing with a degenerative bone disease.  I did not want him to suffer any longer.

I adopted him in May of 2009.  Throughout the years, I enjoyed his love, compansionsjhip, and I was to provide him the love and care he truly deserved and appreciated for almost 9 years. I truly miss him.

Here ye, Here ye: Shazzy here.

I have breaking news. I have been adopted by my new Dad Mark, fur sister Haley and “the cat”. Remember when I had to take the cat test (and no time to study??) Good thing I passed it. Rumor has it I am going nose to nose with that little one. I hear that foster Mom and Dad miss me terribly. No more camping for her. She is back in bed with FD and Clohe.

I am now a Hawkeye fan and I guess that’s ok. I love to watch nature through the window you know. Many thanks to Ragom for giving me a chance for a good life.

See you at the picnic. You’ll know me. I’m the white one!

Hey everyone, it’s Shaz checking in.

I have had a few busy days. On Sunday we worked in the gardens so Clohe and I were put on tie outs while FM did some yard work. It was a beautiful day and I did just great supervising the project. It was so much fun to watch the neighbors working in their yards.

Yesterday I was invited over to the neighbors to play in their fenced yard. FM wanted to know if I would retrieve so off we went with a couple tennis balls. I loved the freedom of their huge yard and I ran up and down their hill chasing FM. But retrieve? NO!! I guess I am not too sure what she wants me to do with that. Maybe I can learn from another dog but of course there is no guarantee.

I still have free roam of the house and I have proven myself trustworthy. FM leaves and tells me she will be back. When I first came here, I was frantic and would try to leave with her. Now I know to just wait and she will return. Don’t get me wrong. I love to go in the car but I know she has to go some places alone. Not sure why.

Remember when I told you we were moving into the bedroom to sleep? Well that lasted for about an hour. I could not figure out why FM and I were not camping. FM got tired of hearing my collar clink from being restless so back into the campground we went. I like that just fine! So if I come to live with you, it would be beneficial to show me where I will be sleeping all the time because I guess I am a creature of habit. I could have gotten used to FM in bed but we did not want to keep FD and Clohe awake by my restlessness. I do not like dog beds. FM has a flannel mat with foam in it that I absolutely love. I sleep on the carpet as well.

They also are saying I am probably 2 years old based on my teeth and eyes. This has come from many a vet. The good news is you get a young dog that is mellow and calm unlike most my age. People cannot believe how sweet and well mannered I am. FM calls me her little treasure. She tells me I am very Velcro. HUH?

Well, gotta go. FM is getting ready to go to work and I have to be sure to be at the door to say good bye.

How do you spell DREAM DOG? S H A Z Z Y. This boy is perfect. FM here and I cannot say enough good things about him. He has really settled in. He has free roam of the house and has proved to be every bit golden even though he is snowy white in color. He is such a happy boy, tail wagging all the time and just really wants to be near you. Always seeks your attention and if you have a leash or brush in your hand, he gets that smile on his face and that tail gets going and I swear he is going to wag right out of his body. His only fault I can think of is his tail goes so much that sometimes he will knock things over on tables. I have moved things around so this does not happen anymore. Seriously, you can hardly call that a fault. Being happy all the time is a good thing.

This boy deserves a great home with someone who can spend time with him. That’s all he really wants. If that could be you, contact your placement advisor and let her know. He will not be here long.

Happy May Day everyone.

Shazzy here. Last night was a very busy evening for me. FM loaded me in the car and said we were headed off to take a test. For those of you that go to school or have gone previously, you usually are given some time to prep for this. No, not me. FM said she had a lot of faith in me and was sure I would test well. What the heck? As we got out of the car, she turned to me and said “I hope you don’t blow it.” Geez…no pressure. Well come to find out I had to meet a cat to see how I would do. This cat does not like dogs and all she did was stand her ground and hiss at me. Let me tell you I could not get down those stairs quick enough to get away from her. Talk about a Diva. She rules that roost. Needless to say, I passed that with flying colors.

We then went out on the deck and I was the lucky recipient of a good brushing. Ooohhh… It felt so good. The birds have to love that thick fur to make their nests. Did I tell you how thick and wavy my coat is? FM says I am so handsome. But boy am I tired today. I am attaching a picture because of course FM went crazy with the camera again today.

I went to the vet today and had my sutures out. It still has a little healing to do but is so much better then it was. I actually leave it alone for the most part. They took a look at my ears and said that they are getting better. Both have a yeast infection in them but are improving. I also can stand to put on about 5 pounds. YUM.YUM. I told you how much I like to eat.

Rumor has it that FM is going to sleep in her bed tonight. Not sure what that means for me. I have gotten used to her and I camping out on the floor. Remember FD said no dogs in bed. Hmmmm…. I better start thinking about this.

Gotta go. It’s supper time here and I have to hang out around the table. You never know!

Hey everyone…… Shazzy here checking in. I saw FM doing this last night. I told her I could handle it from here on out. I know exactly what I have been up to and what I would like in a forever home.

Not much going on with the dreary weather we have been having. Clohe and I take our jaunts out in the yard and we have gone for a few walks but none so far today. Clohe is afraid of storms and gets a little jittery when it starts to rain. I let her know it doesn’t bother me a bit. Up until today I had not barked. FM says that every dog she fosters comes in not barking and leaves with a bark. Maybe we need to just settle in or maybe we are learning bad habits from Clohe. She barks a lot for a shih tzu. Today I chimed in once and FM just shook her head. I have a very deep bark but do not seem to over use it. Although when FM looked, I was barking at nothing. Hmmmm… That’s what Clohe does all the time. I love to go outside and watch the birds and the rabbits. I wish it would get nice out so we could hang out there. I have met all the neighbors and they think I am a beautiful dog. I prefer handsome. My neuter is healing nicely and it is a good thing because I do not like to wear a cone. FM could tell you some stories about her decision to put one on me. My actions changed her mind quickly. We still sleep together on the floor with me being leashed to her. She wants to make sure I do no licking. I don’t mind. The floor is big and I love someone to snuggle with. It’s almost healed. I wonder if we will then move into the bed. That’s my goal. FD says “Fat chance.”

I really don’t need much in a forever home but a lot of attention and love. Those things are very important to me. I love walks and would like someone to take me as often as possible. I also love to be brushed. I can live with a dog or be an only dog, but I really, really love people. Rumor has it I get a bath this weekend after my stitches come out. FM says I will be as white as newly fallen snow. Hope I am going to like that. Think she’ll be angry when I roll in the woods? He..He..

I am attaching a few pictures. We had a long photo shoot today. Boring. Clohe tells me this is something we do a lot. GReat.

Thanks for reading up on me and I promise to write often.

If interested in meeting me, just tell your placement advisor. I guess it needs to be after my bath and before the roll in the woods. Timing is everything. I’ll be worth it!
