Kolby 07-711

Profile

Kolby came into RAGOM Thursday from a shelter, and we just can't imagine why he wasn't wanted by his previous owner.

Our groomer turned him into a gorgeous little prince, and the vet said he's in good health and great shape at age 8. He weighs about 68 lbs., so he's a smaller red golden boy. Kolby met our resident german shepherd and two golden fosters and greeted them with tail wags and kisses. He also looked at our two cats and decided they weren't worth his attention!

He loves to snuggle, play with our dogs, and play with toys - especially tennis balls. He knows basic commands such as sit, down, etc. When we say 'treat', he comes and sits at your feet and with great manners waits for his treat.

Kolby is house trained, and when he wants to go outside, he prances, wags his tail and sort of 'talks' to us. He has the cutest little voice, and only barks when we say 'outside'. This wonderful little guy ignores the neighbor dogs who bark at our fence, and prefers to make snow angels or play with his friends.

If you're interested in a sweet, loving playful boy, Kolby's the one for you.

Hello Ragom,

I recall the excitement of my then-8-year-old girl on our way back home to Wisconsin, calling it the "best day of my life". It was January of 2008 and we had just made an overnight trip to pick up the newest member of our family from Rescue a Golden of Minnesota foster parents in New Brighton.

You should know that our new buddy Kolby who was with us that day, RAGOM rescue #07-711, passed away today after a long and happy life.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for the care you took in matching us with this wonderful guy and giving us five excellent years with such a cool companion. At the time of adoption we also had a one-year-old child, and you suggested we consider a senior dog rather than the younger dogs we had viewed on your adoption site. Turns out that was fine advice. Because of her time with this easy-going old guy, our daughter now has a very healthy respect for all animals and can handle most dogs she meets.

In the past year we took in another Golden, a local rescue who is younger and more active, and our girls both do very well with him. Below are a few photos just to show you how comfortable "Kurly" Kolby made the girls feel. One is from shortly after adoption and one is from a more recent day when our younger girl crawled in with the new boy. The third is of both boys with Mom this past summer when we figure Kolby was about 13 or 14 years old.

To adopt Kolby was the best decision we could have made, and we'll always count those five among the best years of our lives.

Thank you for your kind care for the Goldens you rescue and the families you help.

Kevin, Leslie, Riley and Ella

Kolby went to a wonderful, loving home today!

Kolby... very content in his new forever home!

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

Kolby is lying by my feet as I write this, such a sweet boy.

His ear infection is almost gone, and he loves to be groomed and brushed.

Kolby and his foster siblings plus our resident dog went outside with foster dad early yesterday morning; and a bunny appeared in our fenced yard. Yikes for the bunny!

Soon all four pups were chasing the bunny! Then Kolby stopped, watched, and seemed to say 'this is crazy'. He was only into the running, and not the bunny. So we know he has a very low prey drive. In fact, Kolby prefers to play with his toys.

Kolby is such a great guy. He knows "sit, down, come, leave it and (his favorite) treat". He doesn't jump up on people or furniture, and is content to sit by your side on the carpet.

Kolby will be at Petco in Burnsville this Saturday, January 12th. Come meet our wonderful curly, lovable boy.

Here are two new pictures of Kolby.
