Shadow (Connor 07-458)

Profile

7/28/07: Connor is an 11 week old Golden/Border Collie mix.  His looks resembles a Border Collie more than a GR, but his personality is like a GR!  He is a snuggle bunny and so playful!  He is very sweet and so, so fluffy.  Connor is 19 pounds at this time, but of course will get bigger!

He just arrived yesterday, so we are still getting to know this little guy. We are working on going potty outside and having nice manners, like sitting for treats.

If you are an approved applicant, please email placement and we can set up a meeting!

July 15th at 1:11PM our hearts broke, as we said goodbye to our lovable Shadow. He left a huge hole in our hearts, and a lonely feeling in our everyday lives. He was the most amazing, lovable and loyal dog.

He was such a huge part of our family and it’s hard not having him here with us today.  He was a cute puppy and ate everything in sight, including the baseboards in our hallway.

At 2 years of age he mellowed out and became the most amazing dog.  He played soccer with my daughter and was a great goalie for street hockey (tennis ball for puck).  He loved swimming and we took him everywhere with us.

If someone left the gate open he would come around to the front door and look in the door window.  He always wanted to be where we were.  He would sit in the front yard and never move when a dog went by and if he didn’t want to go inside or outside, he would bow with his two front legs as to say no, I’m good.

He was spoiled and I know we gave him an amazing life with lots of love.  He was there through the hard times and was always by my side.  He understood us and we understood him.

The day he left us was the hardest day of my life.  I had just come home from a weekend helping with a grad party.  When I came home he was just lying there like he was waiting for me and asking for help.  I knew right away something was wrong.

We took him to the emergency vet right away.  They said he looked pale.  They brought us in and told us that a tumor had ruptured on his spleen and his stomach was filled with blood.   I will never forget that heart wrenching moment and looking into his eyes and him looking back as to say it’s time.  Hardest day of my life and there will always be a paw print on my whole heart.

RIP Shadow.

From Shadow's (fka Connor) forever family...

Here is a recent picture of Shadow (Connor). Dani is in the driver’s seat pretending to take Shadow for a ride. They are such a great pair.

I loved the dogs I had before Shadow and thought no one could replace them, but Shadow has totally done that. He plays soccer with Dani and guards the goal; sometimes I swear he kicks the ball; he is so loving and still gives hugs every day.

Just a note to say thank you again for giving us an opportunity to love him, he is such a wonderful part of our family.

Sweet Connor was adopted and is home!  His two-legged sister will run and run and run with him in the fenced back yard until they both poop out!  He will be the only dog, so he will be very spoiled and get a lot of attention.  He already met the neighbor dog, Charlie, and was a little shy, but I am sure they will be best friends soon!  He will get to go to his Aunt's farm often and play with the animals and run around the farm all day!

Connor was my rock when his brother Cayden was sick, so he stole part of my heart and will always be special to me.  I know I will be able to see him again for play dates with my 2 residents so I am looking forward to that!

Connor is getting so big and has really shot up the last week!  His legs are so long now, so I am sure his body is soon to catch up.  We call him with "Puppy" or "Floofy", just because those names fit him!  We are still working on the potty training. I would say he is about 60% there.  He needs to be constantly watched and asked if he has to go potty.  He willingly goes out, but still has not figured how to tell us.  Typical puppy and is so distracted with all of the things he needs to get done in a day...chew on bones, play with ALL of his toys, drag shoes around the house (thank goodness it is back to school shopping and the kids get new shoes!), drag socks around the house (again, back to school shopping!), pounce on Charlie and chew on his neck, check out the yard, herd his "people", or known to him as his "sheep" and most importantly get lots of pets and snuggle time.  Where in the world would he find time to tell us he has to go potty!! We will keep working on it!

Floofy does so good at night. Between 9:30 - 10:00 I put him by his crate in my room and he walks right in. Last night he whined for awhile, but for some reason he was so wound up! He settled down after about 5 minutes and
slept until 6:15. He was running around the perimeter of the house like a wild man and had so much energy.   This little guy has the cutest yawn - he does the sweetest squeaky noise when he yawns.  It is very funny, he is such a crack-up!

He is patiently waiting for his forever family to find him! We talk about it every day and I tell him he needs a family that is patient and will bring him to puppy classes, someone who will commit to having him in activity - like agility - so he does not get bored, a family that will take him for walks and finally a family that will love him to pieces FOREVER!

If that describes your family, please let your placement advisor know!

I'm trying to hide the evidence but I think she has caught onto us!!!
Another one bites the dust!!!

Is that the sweetest face or what!!!

Fast asleep counting his sheet....bahahahahaha....

Connor has had a couple of interesting days.  I have never known a puppy to POOP as much as he was.  Poor baby would wake me up every hour at night to go outside - he would whine to go out so he did not have an accident in his
kennel, bless his heart.  Every time we went out, he had to go!  I was like "where is this guy keeping all of this in his little body!"  I was on the alert with the Parvo virus infecting his siblings, so off the vet for another stool sample.  Thankfully he does not have Parvo, but another condition that gives him running poop (and other poop details that I will spare you from).  He immediately was better after his first dose of meds and wow, he has 10 times more energy.  He really was not acting sick and was eating and drinking, but now he is like a tornado!  Tearing around the house and yard like a wild man!

In the evening around 9:00, he RUNS the perimeter of the first floor of the house 4 or 5 times.  I think he is "herding" us, he must think we are his sheep!  He does this after we have swam, ran, gone for a walk and played, played, played!  The nice thing is that he settles down really well and now that he is not pooping every hour in the nighttime, he sleeps through the night.

He is a cuddly little guy and we are having so much fun with him.  He has the most mesmerizing eyes that I have ever seen.  He just looks at you with such compassion and trust.  We love this guy!

I love sleeping on the air vents!

Are you my new mommy?

"I LOVE sticks!!!!"

Connor continues to be a delight to foster.  He is the sweetest little guy and has been my rock through the week in regards to his brother's illness. He looks so much like Cayden, so when I hold him, it is like holding Cayden :  )

We are working on potty training.  He does "get it", but is not quite sure how to tell us yet.  We just continue to let him out about every 1/2 hour for him to do his duty.  He tries to engage in play with the two resident dogs, but they are really not interested.  He is a little afraid of Penny and if she chases him, he just drops to the ground.  Charlie is a little crabby with everyone as this is the second puppy in a row we have had and he has a look on his face like, "why do you keep brining those pests into this house!!"

Connor loves to play with toys and he also loves to drag socks and towels around the house.  Well, actually he likes to rip up socks!  Something Charlie taught him!  He is a early riser, about 5:45 am, and by the time I am ready to go to work, he takes a nap.  He is eating and drinking good. We are anxiously waiting for Monday as that is when he gets his booster for the Parvo virus.  He did test negative, but we are still well aware that there is an incubation period and that is not over yet.  The first sign of a symptom and we will be down at the U.  So far, the angels have been watching over him.  We pray every morning for his brother Cayden.

I can do stairs really well now!
