Dear RAGOM -
Maizy H (fka Maizy 07-190) has joined our family. There were some wonderful people and RAGOM dogs who sponsored her. Would you please pass on our gratitude to these sponsors for believing in Maizy and in RAGOM. It is because of them and your wonderful foster families that we have been able to complete our family. These people will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Thank you!
The H Family,
Bryan, Christy, Bear and Maizy

Charlie here - Mom asked me to write the update for Maizy this week. Gee whiz, isn't it enough that I let her follow me around, snuggle with me, nibble on my ears and kiss me?? Guess not! Oh well, what's a foster bro to do?!
Just kidding...I love the old girl, we have been calling her NaNa, little Gramma and grammy lately! She has become an integral (big word for a GR!) part of our lives. Maizy is just the sweetest little girl in the world (even sweeter than Penny..shhh...don't tell her that or she will not want to wrestle with me any more!). She just follows me around, takes my lead and does not cause a lot of fuss. She is so easy to have at our house, the perfect little house guest. I especially like it when she leaves some kibble in her bowl cause I gobble it all up! She is getting less shy about getting in line for treats. She is the first one butting in line past us resident furr butts. Mom said that is okay because she is our guest!
Maizy has been with us for 7 weeks now. I don't know what a week is, but mom told me to say that. I really don't mind that she is hanging around with us, she has it "made in the shade" if you ask me. Getting treated like a guest all of the time sounds like a pretty good deal to me! Just kidding again! My family treats us all like kings and queens - residents or fosters!
We continue to go on daily walks. One human takes me and Maizy and another takes "the queen" Penny Rose. Maizy is a good walker and likes to sniff like me. Mom mentioned that she gets afraid when we walk and that is true! We keep telling her it is safe, but I guess she needs to decide that herself. She will figure it out in her own time.
So, is there anyone out there that would like to have a wonderful, sweet, little grammy as part of their family? Maizy definitely needs another dog or two, a fenced in yard and human folk that are around a lot. She needs a lot of attention and tender loving care. Mom is constantly kissing her, hugging her, holding her face and telling her how special she is. Don't get me wrong, I still get my lovin' too!! I am willing to share my mom!
Mom wanted me to add some things that happened this week. Oopsy, Maizy had an accident by the sliding door where we go out to go potty. She said it was foster dad's fault as he was not paying attention...probably true because that is her first accident in the house. I guess a girl's gotta go when a girl's gotta go! Another not so great thing...Maizy ate part of mom's table...it was probably my parents' fault again as they should have given her a toy to chew on. Anyway, you probably know none of us furr butts are perfect, but these humans love us anyway, isn't that the GReatest!!!
Enjoy the picture of the furr butt family at our house on the deck.
Love, Charlie David

Maizy May checking in. First I want to apologize to my sponsor Mary as we are having trouble with the pictures that we were going to put on my site. The humans are struggling with getting it in the right format...I am a pupper, I don't understand all of that stuff and apparently the humans don't either! We may just have to meet again and get another picture!
I continue to be a happy girl and am happy just hanging out with my humans and furr butts. Mom said that when we have visitors, I am usually quiet the next day. So I guess that means that I struggle with change. I had another bath as mom said someone was starting to smell like a barn and I guess it was me! I hope you enjoy the pictures that mom took. It would have been nice if she would have waited until I could have blow dried my hair and put on some make-up, but she says that I am cute no matter what...whatever!!!
I love where I am living because someone is around 99% of the time. I really need a home where someone is home most of the time and it is fairly quiet. Like I said, I get a little traumatized when we have company! I am not your typical GR because of my history, so I don't play fetch like some of my cohorts. I snuggle, but about half the time you have to come up to me...I do go to the humans when they have food though! I definitely need a yard with a fence, I like my freedom but cannot be trusted off a leash. I am scared of small children and even other dogs if they are barking at me behind a fence. I have gotten along with all of the other puppers I have met, it is just when they are barking at me that I get freaked out! Oh, I really need a forever home where there are one or two resident dogs, too.
I am really good on a leash. I always walk on the left side of a human, but I never pull (well, almost never) and always act like a lady. I definitely need someone who has a lot, I mean a lot, of patience. When we are walking, if there is someone walking in front of or behind us, we have to stand and wait until I feel safe. That is usually when they are out of sight! My mom is so patient with me and we do more standing around than walking! She does push me to get out of my comfort zone, but I am a scared girl, so she understands that I need time to trust and heal my wounds.
My foster family brushes me a lot and I have heard them say that they could have knitted many sweaters with all of the hair that they have gotten out of me! I had never been brushed before I became a RAGOM dog, so I have 8 years worth of hair that needs to be brushed out! So, what do we do with all of the hair? We walk it to the woods so the birdies can make their nests out of them! Givin' back to the animal world, I love it!!
I better go now, I see Charlie trying to steal my new duck. He did not even have a bath and he got his own present, too! Gotta go!
Love,
Maizy May Wiggle Britches (That is what foster mom Karen and foster dad Mike called me when I lived with them, cute huh!)
Look at the prize I got for letting mom give me a bath - my new duck!
Sweetie face....
How humiliating....I just had a bath, my hair is a total mess, but mom thought I looked cute...what's a girl to do!

Maizy May checking in after a fun weekend! I got to go to PetCo and meet so many nice RAGOM pups (and people, too). I was a friendly little girl and people were surprised at how little I was. We girls must watch our figure you know - oh, well maybe they meant that I was "short"! Well, I have been trimming down anyway, so a girl's gotta take credit where credit is due, right? So, I should say that I am kinda "short", but my foster family says that I am a perfect size. They also say that I am the sweetest little puppy in the world (I think they love me lots)!
The best thing that happened at PetCo was that I met my sponsors, Mary and Tom Losness. I was so happy to meet them as they are my special angels. They picked me out special to be my sponsor and that makes me want to cry with happiness. No one has ever cared for me like that before. I was just a number and now I am a special girl that has so many people who love me! I would have never known what it was like to be a REAL GR if it was not for all of the wonderful people who care about me...sniff, sniff. I had my picture taken with Mary, but foster mom forgot her camera (I know, I reminded her and she still forgot) so she has to get it from another foster mom who remembered to bring her camera! We will send it in soon.
So down to the nitty gritty (mom told me to say that - silly, huh?)! I do not think I like to swim. Maybe if Charlie swam I would like it, but he is kinda chicken too! He just chases Penny around the pool like a crazy man and then shakes when she shakes on him! We do like to play a game though - it is called, Penny dives in the pool to the bottom to get her torpedo and we run to the gate to find her! I am not sure where she disappears to, but for some reason we think she has left the pool area and run to the gate! But every time she pops up in the pool again. It is the craziest thing! I heard some of my foster mom's friends say that she should be on David Letterman's stupid dog tricks - hey, I don't think it is stupid, it is very funny!!!
Oh, I am suppose to tell you that I am really cute when I take treats! I line up with the other furr butts and use my front teeth and gently take the treat from mom's hand. She tells me I am very gentle and the other dogs are piggly wigglies when they take a treat. They should learn something from me, the expert treat taker!! Oh, I also eat in the
kitchen with the resident dogs. I guess the days where they give me breakfast in bed are over!!
Okay better go now, need to decide what to do next - chew on a marrow bone, take toys out of the basket and hide them in my nest or just lay on the deck with the other furr butts! Until next time, Maizy May signing off!
Hey Charlie, what's mom doing on the other side of the fence?
Shhhh...I stole the hopping bunny rabbit and put it in my nest with me...
Me just lookin' like a pretty girl!

Maizy May here and I am going to write my own update today. I went on a long car ride with my new friend Tate, my rescued Airedale friend (the people folk call him "Tator Tot"). We went to a cabin and there was lots and lots of water. I did not go in the water, but I was very interested and loved to put my nose in the air and sniff! Mom said that the smell must have reminded me of something...then she stopped talking and was whispering to her sister...she does that a lot, I think she does not want me to think of the "olden days" when it was not too nice for me.
I am so good in the car and love to look out the windows and I like to sleep, too! Mom says that I sleep when I get stressed..she is right, I think I am invisible when I close my eyes! I did so good in the cabin and followed Tate around. I was kind of stubborn and would not sleep with mom, I had to sleep behind Tator's crate, it made me feel safe! We went on a couple of walks and even walked in the town where we saw a yard full of domestic bunnies hopping around everywhere! It did not faze me, but mom did have to go back the next day and look at the bunnies...turns out that they had to get rid of them as the neighbors were complaining....can you believe that, they are so cute (and maybe delicious too...well, at least Charlie would think so, he loves to chase bunnies). Mom really wanted to bring one (or two) home and just about put them in her purse, but then her sister said something about "having a full plate already"...she was not holding a plate, I don't understand! Probably one of those crazy people sayings again!
So I am not sure if I like to swim yet, but we will find out soon. At my house, we have a big container of water, I guess they call it a pool. All I know is that Penny Rose loves it, so I may have to join in the fun! I will report back soon.
Other news to report - I now do the following: Take treats from mom's hand, stand by door when I have to go potty, lay in the living room with the people folk all the time, sleep in the bathroom (I love the cold floor), greet mom at the door when she comes home from work and I am sure there are many other things that I have mastered as well. I will check in with mom and I am sure we can come up with another list for next week!
Puppy kisses,
Maizy May

He used to be in an icky place too and we both got rescued! Yeah for us!!

This is Maizy and I thought I would write my own update this time! I had a great weekend and a lot of new experiences. On Sunday I went to my Auntie's house as mom did not want to leave me home - the other furr guys had to stay home...hee hee! I had a great time in the car but mom was laughing at me because I had my front feet on the middle seat and my back end was hanging over into the back...hey I am new at this car riding thing. I was a little scared at the house, but everyone thought I was pretty and petted me lots. The best thing that happened is that when I got home I was so happy to see my foster furr butts...I was wiggling everywhere and kissing them tons...mom says that when I wiggle I am happy!
On Monday we went to visit Holly Bear 07-167 at her forever home. It was so much fun exploring around in her back yard - wow, it is like a paradise back there and so much to sniff and explore. I loved seeing Holly again and I really came out of my shell and did so good! I hardly recognized Holly Bear. She had all new fur because of the good food and vitamins she is taking and boy is she funny! She jumps off the deck and runs around the yard and is so happy! I am happy now, but I am waiting for a forever family to call my own like Holly Bear...is there someone out there that will make me part of their family...I am a good girl and really coming out of my shell. I will need a lot of encouragement and love, but will love you unconditionally...
There are some fun pictures of me and all of the furr kids at the party on Sunday!

I think our little May-May has turned the corner - well, I think! Over the last day, she has learned to jump on the bed (I know, bad foster mom), and she is wandering around the house a lot more and joining in on the "greeting committee". She is also holding up her pretty little head and my neighbors say that "she looks happy!" She has amazed me with her sweet, sensitive spirit, but there is a little streak of confidence that is coming out. Last night she found a pen on the floor (teenagers...) and brought it upstairs. I watched while she gently put it in her nest and praised her for finding a "treasure", but then told her that she would enjoy one of her stuffed animals better and switched it out.
She and Charlie continue to be "partners in crime", waking me up every morning at 4:30 am to go out and potty! They both wiggle their butts and come up to me (well, now they both are on the bed over me) to take the trip in the early morning to "do their thing". I follow their lead because it is so fun to see that they have bonded.
Oh, I have never put in her update that she has NEVER had an accident in the house. She paces by the sliding door to go outside!

Maizy May is coming along fine. She has been with us for 12 days now and is feeling more comfortable. She is eating fine and does venture out from her safe spots more often. When we went for a walk tonite, the 2 resident GR's went into the house after our first round as I wanted to see how she would do alone. She was hesitant, but she did walk to the end of the block wth me. She was so happy to see her foster bro and sis peeking out the front door. I think it is important to show her that she CAN do things on her own and she will be safe and successful. Consistency, security, compassion, love and patience is the key to building this girl's confidence and bringing out her hidden Golden personality. She tends to go to Charlie David first for guidance. This is not surprising, as CD is such a gentle and patient pupper.
We are planning on visiting Holly Anne this weekend at her forever home. It will be fun to see how Maizy and Holly react to one another. It is very likely that they were "housed" together at some point in that horrible prison in ND. I think they will find comfort in each other. Oh, Holly Anne is doing awesome and Maizy will see that, too! I wonder what is going through that pretty little head of hers...
Not unlike other millers, we take two steps forward, one and one half back. I say "we" because we are on the journey with this special girl. It is a rare day that she does not take a step back. Fifty some "people years" that she lived her life without any normal human contact, no love, hugs, encouragement or even someone telling her how beautiful she was. Every step forward is a miracle and we cherish each and every accomplishment.
Charlie you just relax, I am on squirrel patrol!!
This is my HAPPY face!!
Charlie, how do I look in my shades??

Maizy has been with us for a week now. She had been adjusting well consistently until Wednesday. She was pretty quiet and reserved all day and evening. She walked, but just seemed sort of down. That's okay, we all have bad days once in awhile, right? I knew it was just a little set-back, and I was correct! Tonite she did fabulous on her walk, let the neighbors pet her - well, it's not like she ran up to them, but she approached and did not even hang her head! All of the neighbors said she is doing so much better - I was so glad to hear that. We notice improvement, but we see her all the time and it is nice that others comment on the improvement in her confidence.
The biggest thing is that she found her favorite place in the living room and stayed in there with everyone! This is HUGE for her and we are so proud of our precious Maizy May :)
Maizy will blossom in a home with older children, a fence, another dog or two and someone that will spend a lot of time building this precious girl's confidence. She has blended into our family nicely and is a gentle soul.

Maizy was a funny girl yesterday...she snuck downstairs, went in the toy bin and "stole" the black and white bear and dragged it upstairs and put it in her nest. Then she came down again and stole Mr. Porky! Here are pictures of her and her new friends!

Miss Daisy Maizy arrived at my house on Friday with her ND mill mate, Mya 07-166. Maizy will be staying with our family until we find a forever home for her. She is just a sweetheart and we all love her! This is her chance to be more independent, as she was so close to Mya and it was hard for her to take a risk by herself. Although this was okay at first, it was decided that she needed a change and also needed to be closer to the Twin Cities so she could find her special forever family.
Maizy has found her safe places in our home - she has 2 nests, one in our office and one in the bedroom. She also likes to lay by the door to the garage on the tile floor where it is cool. We have now locked that door, so no one can come in and out of that door, just in case our sweet Maizy is laying there!
At first when I wanted her to leave her nest and come with us - on the deck to the fenced back yard or to get a meal - I would have to put the leash on her. Now all I have to do is carry the leash and she comes. I would not say it is not without apprehension, but she does it! Once in awhile she will hide her head under the blanket and I tell her "I can still see you"!!!
She is a pretty shy girl, but with only being out of the puppy mil for 50 days, she has done amazing! She will continue to grow more confidence and we are constantly telling her "Hold your head up beautiful girl!"
I love my soft comforter

Maizy Mae is thrilled to know she has even more loving sponsors. Not only do Mary and Tom Losness and their RAGOM Dogs Maggie and Charlie support her, we now want to thank Suzi W, Deb F, Kate M, Deb S, Mark B & Kathy W for their love and support. Thank you, thank you for helping Maizy. Thanks to you all, Maizy has a bright and happy future waiting just for her.
We are celebrating in our house for Maizy. She is completely healed from her tooth extraction and spay, although she didn't get the tummy tuck that she asked for. Her biopsy reports came back fine. There is lots of complicated mumbo jumbo on the report - but basically it just said that her uterus was way over used, a term called Hyper (something) and the scar tissue on her mammory chain was just that - scar tissue. So - we're off to the races with Maizy to continue learning, exploring and trusting.
Although Maizy is still a little shy, she is extremely loving and gentle. She seeks out pets and attention and is very brave about her daily walks. She really likes her foster Dad and seems more confident when she has him at the end of her leash. Of course, she is still very attached to Mya 07-166, so we are trying to give them time away from each other to help them both build more independent confidence. As long as one of our dogs is with Maizy, she is very happy. She gets very animated when our dogs show her the slightest bit of attention.
Maizy is discovering toys - and she HAD a favorite, the Mailman, until Mya decided that the Mailman was really an EVIL-man and had to die. Maizy misses her Mailman friend - so we'll be looking for a replacement Mailman this weekend.
If you think Maizy might have a place in your home - where you can help her continue to build her confidence and learn all about the joys of living the Golden life, please contact placementragom [dot] org. Maizy will need a securely fenced yard, a confident resident dog and family members that will give her the time, patience and understanding she needs to become the lovely, confident and happy girl we know she is.

First and foremost, Maizy and her foster family would like to say a special thank you to her sponsors; Mary and Tom Losness and their RAGOM dogs Maggie and Charlie. We can’t tell you how wonderful you make us feel – knowing you are in Maizy’s corner. Maizy will be sending you a ‘personal’ thank you real soon.
Maizy is home tonight from her stay in the hospital following her spay surgery, dental cleaning and having one tooth extracted yesterday. She didn’t eat at all at the hospital, so when I offered her a small amount of soft food and boiled chicken – she eagerly gobbled it up. It’s obvious this precious girl is happy to be home and we’re even more happy she’s home too.
As I said in Mya’s (07-166) update: there is a saying that goes "today is the first day of the rest of your life" and in Maizy’s case too, that phrase couldn't be more fitting. During Maizy’s spay surgery yesterday; our vet discovered a war zone – worse than she found in Mya’s case. Dr. Susan found that not only did Maizy have Pyometra; an infection in the uterus which left untreated could have killed Maizy, she also found a cyst that looked suspicious, so it went to the lab for pathology. We hope to have the report by the end of the week.
Maizy also had a scar on her mammary chain – which Dr. Susan thinks was a tear that was left untreated and had to heal on its own. The tear likely happened during whelping (or delivery) of one of her many litters of puppies. Having to nurse puppies would have aggravated the tear, and not only would it have been extremely painful, it didn’t heal well. Dr. Susan removed the scar tissue in hopes to clear the mammary chain.
Dr. Susan removed one canine tooth that was broken at the gum line and infected. She also discovered during Maizy’s cleaning that her molars are ground down – which is a result of chewing on chain cages. RAGOM truly saved Maizy’s life – for if it weren’t for RAGOM, and her special sponsor family, her fate would have been sealed at the puppy mill in North Dakota.
As in Mya’s case, Maizy’s uterus was very scarred too and Dr. Susan estimates that Maizy also has had a minimum of 10 pregnancies, and likely many more. She said it is quite obvious that, like Mya, Maizy was never allowed a break between pregnancies either – which resulted in the severe scarring to her uterus.
We’re anxious to get the biopsy report back and have all our paws crossed that it’s nothing to worry about. Maizy is just now beginning to realize that the best is yet to come.
Stay tuned for updates on Maizy.
