Jessie soaks up the love at the RAGOM picnic on Saturday.
Jessie is in love with being a house dog. She thought it was the bees knees from the start, but last week she learned that you don't always have to wear a diaper if you live in the house and that is just the icing on the cake. She is now out of heat and tonight we confirmed at the vet that she is not pregnant. Next week she will be spayed and never have to raise another litter of pups.
Last week Jessie accompanied Bishop and I on a home visit for RAGOM and she was a superstar! It was a new experience for her, but she did a great job -- playing with the resident golden and looking for love and attention from the applicant. We are going to start with some walks around the neighborhood so that she can meet more new people and perfect walking on a leash. We will get a lot of leash practice both the leash and meeting new people at the RAGOM picnic this weekend!
She has learned her name and comes running if you call for her in the house or yard. We are also working on sitting for treats and sitting for petting. This morning we got up and went outside, she did her business and then came racing back to the patio -- skidding the last foot or so as her butt hit the ground and she landed at my feet for scratches under her chin. She's catching on a whole lot faster than the resident dog ever did.
Jessie is a love muffin and I feel so blessed to have fostered her. We are are starting to look seriously for her forever home before I keep her forever. If you have another dog in the house, a fenced in yard and think that you might have room in your heart and home for a 48 pound angel, please contact placementragom [dot] org.
Jessie continues to make herself at home here. She will now go up and down the full flight of stairs as long as she has another dog to follow. Her appetite is good and she will take dried chicken treats from my hand. She also had her first marrow bone treat tonight. She wasn't entirely sure what to do with that, but she gave it the ol' college try. Jessie continues to be "monkey see, monkey do" with Bishop--which is 95% a good thing. The other 5% means that she thinks it is OK to drink from the toilet and jump up for attention. She is starting to play with him, but her moves remind me of puppy awkwardness. She is still trying to figure out just how to play, especially when it comes to toys.
We're sending along a couple new photos of Jessie. It's interesting to note that Bishop is 63 pounds, which is generally considered on the small end for a Golden, but he looks huge compared to Jessie.
Jessie is in heat, so we must wait another three weeks to have her spayed and she has to wear "diapers" in the house. The upside for us is that the diapers are making housetraining easier. She is also being treated for whip worm and ear infections--pretty standard fair for a new foster dog.
