Molly 06-127

Profile

3/26/06: Molly has arrived safely from northern Minnesota. She is 9 months old and has the most beautiful face and sweet personality. Yes, she has the puppy energy to go along with her cuteness, but with regular exercise and obedience class, that ?puppiness? can be worked with.

She appears to be in great health. She will be going to the vet tomorrow for a checkup and also to get spayed. I?m guessing she is around 50 lbs?very slender and sleek. She could be a model! She originally was a stray, so we do not know about her parents. My guess would be she is not going to get huge.

She grew up around other dogs and she and my other foster, Rusty 06-091, are having the time of their lives playing in the back yard! She is completely housetrained?maybe she?ll teach Rusty all about that?and she is crate trained. She walks okay on a leash, but with some training, she?ll be great! I have a feeling she?ll be a quick learner. We?ll also try out the Gentle Leader on tomorrow's walk. Her intake notes indicate she is a runner--if she gets loose, she takes off. For this reason, a chain link/wooden fence will be needed in her new forever home.

If you?re an approved applicant and interested in this babe, let your placement coordinator know. She will be interviewing prospective forever families the first week of April.

Molly is now approaching her 10th birthday and it still a dog full of energy. She has become a great skijoring and running buddy and I can't think of a better partner. An arthritic knee that doesn't really bend doesn't phase her one bit. She was hit by a car at 4 months old and broke verebrae and bones in her leg. She was so injured that vets recommened putting her down because they didn't think she could ever walk again. I'm glad some good samaratians were willing to give her the chance at life. (She even had surgery again a few years ago because her knee cap had popped out.)

She is currently helping me with my marathon training and she runs 40+ miles per week (not including her own adventures). On top of running I would skate ski around 15 miles a week with her pulling me. One day this winter we even ran 16 miles and then skied 7. She was surrendered due to having too much energy and I joke with her that if I ever gave her up it would still be because she has too much energy. Not many other dogs I know demand a 12+ mile adventure every day!

She still regularly attends squirrel and deer meetings to keep up on their whereabouts. She will also sit for fifteen minutes or more under trees listening attentively to squirrel lectures. And while she is attentive to squirrels and other important things like that listening to humans is still not one of her top priorities. If she is busy and humans can't give her a better reason to come then they just want her to she'll ignore them until she has more time. She has more important things to do sometimes than do everything humans ask and humans just need to be more understanding.

Just wanted to tell you how Molly's doing. She completed Beginner 1 at school and right now is in Beginner 2. The teacher in Beginner 2 is trying to get her off the gentle leader. Molly thinks this is great. Now she can play tug of war instead of walking nicely. When she passed Beginner 1 the teacher said she was a great dog with a touch of an attitude. :) My dad might want to take Molly into therapy and I might do agility with her. Molly still acts like a puppy and chews everything she can get. Here are some pictures:
