Reggie 05-121

Profile

Reggie arrived late yesterday afternoon after a long trip from a breeder in South Dakota. He was one pooped pup when he got here. He was not very energetic and lacked the puppy energy we are used to. He even had a bit of aggression towards our Golden when she tried to get him to play. What a difference a good night's sleep makes. We put him in his crate at 10:30 and after an hour of crying we took him out and put him next to our bed on a leash...I don't think he moved all night. He woke with puppy energy and a bounce in his step....a very good little boy. After 24 hours with us he has not had an accident in the house yet, but we are pretty sure they will happen, as he is just a pup. He has been great with all four of our kids, ages 4 to 13. He is still a bit shy, but judging from his change in one day, I would say he is going to be a great dog.

Other than ear infections in both ears, he got a clean bill of health. He is 5 1/2 months old and only 26 pounds. The vet feels he will be a smaller Golden. The entire office fell in love with him. He is due to be neutered next Monday, and we will begin looking for his forever home.

I was just looking at the website and saw the section Rainbow Bridge Memorials. We recently lost our good boy and best friend Reggie 05-121. We adopted Reggie from RAGOM in May of 2005 when he was five months old, and it was the best thing we did for our family.

Reggie grew up with our daughters and he was given so much love just as he gave us so much love. He treated everyone like they were his favorite. He was always calm but very playful. He spent much of his life chasing around our backyard after our two daughters or tennis balls or just doing laps. He also loved to chase through the woods at a family cabin with his cousin dogs or spend hours swimming, chasing frisbees or sticks in the cool lake.

He was always ready and happy to go walking with me. When he wasn't playing he stayed as close to us as possible, laying at our feet or resting his paws on our legs always waiting to be rubbed under his chin. He brought us years of happiness and love.

Reggie was only seven and-a-half years old on July 19, 2012, when he was diagnosed with Hemangio Sarcoma and went on to the Rainbow Bridge.

There is a big hole in our hearts and our home right now. We loved Reggie so much and he was such a special part of our family. We are grateful to RAGOM for helping us find our good boy.

I was saddened to learn that Reggie's brother Woody 05-122 also passed away in July, 2011. We are sad for his family, too.

Reggie has been with us since May 7 and he is a great little boy! He is about 9-1/2 months old now. He is very mild mannered and has been since we got him. He is great around kids, crowds and new people. Reggie just loves attention. He loves to have his belly rubbed and be close to us. He sleeps at the foot of our bed every night. He does have a kennel he goes into willingly when we have to leave the house. He will often go in his kennel when he is tired, too. Although for the most part Reggie is mild mannered, he does have his puppy moments! When he is in one of his puppy playful modes, Reggie likes to chew on shoes (flip flops seem to be his favorite), socks, and just about anything he can get. He even chewed up the corner of his (my) doggie obedience class homework! He hasn't done any serious damage, though.

Obedience class went pretty well. He does a good job sitting, coming and walking loose leash. He like to play fetch, but thankfully, not obsessively! I think his favorite game is tug-of-war. He is very good with and tolerant of our two young daughters, although we still have a bit of nipping, mostly just because he wants to play. We have a few other Goldens in our neighborhood, so Reggie has had some play dates. He also has two Golden "cousins" with whom he has romped lots. He also likes to go to the off-leash dog park in our area. He really is happy when he gets to play with other dogs.

Reggie is an adorable little pup - he still is relatively small for being almost 10 months. We are thankful for RAGOM and know Reggie will be a part of our family for a long time!
