Rose 19-017A

Profile

Rose came to RAGOM from a commercial breeder through an auction. She is very sweet and follows me everywhere in the house. She can be sound asleep and snoring away, but if I leave the room, she is not far behind. She is always at my feet when I work on the computer. I am calling her Mama Rose because it was confirmed that she will be having a litter of puppies.

To understand why RAGOM will adhere to our requirements for Rose regarding children and another dog, please read about Retired Breeding Dogs.

Everyone is touching. I would like to move to get some projects done around the house, but I know that once I move, it will disrupt everyone. I guess the work will have to wait!

Rose makes me smile. Every time I look at her, I can't help being happy.

Rose joined the RAGOM family on Feb 10th after a very long car ride. She came to us from a commercial breeding auction, where she was listed as possibly being pregnant.

Last week, on what would have been the 24th day after mating, I took her in to the vet. A sonogram was done, and sure enough, the pictures proved to be positive. The expected due date is April 7th. The vet thinks that Rose has had puppies before, based on some physical signs.

Rose is a very petite little thing and really should be named Peanut. Right now, I call her Mama Rose. She is medium brown with very dark brown eyes and very dark circles around her eyes. She reminds me of Cleopatra with the heavy eye liner!

She is on a 10-day ear treatment for yeast. This is common in Golden Retrievers. She is not especially fond of having the stuff in her ears, but she does love the ear rubs she gets and has a tendency to lean in.

Being new to indoor living, Rose had accidents in the house when she first came. She spent her first several days either tethered to me or kept within a few feet. Many trips outside and rewards for doing her business outside has done wonders. She is a creature of habit, which has made training all the more easily done.

Now that she is consistent about going outside, I need to get her to go further out in the yard. She has decided her place to go is right outside the back door. Not the perfect spot, but at least it is outside!

Rose and my resident Golden, Belle, have a great time together, wrestling and running back and forth on the deck. They sleep close by each other, usually touching. Rose will need a medium to large fur sister or brother for company and to continue to teach her the Golden Life.

My other dog is a small Poodle mix who has "little dog syndrome" and likes to be king of the palace. Rose just stays away when he gets grumpy.

Rose loves to watch TV. I catch her enthralled with all the movements. If animal sounds come on, she has to get up close to see.

She chews on toys and loves to rip things like paper. I caught her with my slippers yesterday, but she gave them up easily. She loves treats and we have started to do some basic training.

Rose will not be available to adopt until sometime in June. I will keep you posted on how life with Mama Rose continues.

Please Note: RAGOM will not be accepting applications for Rose’s puppies until the puppies are available for adoption and are listed on our Adoptable Dogs page.

Sweet dreams, Mama Rose!
