Role Overview

Editor and graphic designer team to write, design, and produce the 2020 RAGOM "Golden Life" Calendar. Former calendar editor and designer will be available for mentoring and consultation. Deadline to start this work is April 19, 2019. Time Commitment: 30 – 40 hours over 2-month period. If interested, please contact mark [dot] crellinatragom [dot] org.

Responsibilities

  • Publish call for entries on social media and by RAGOM Announce email and monitor submissions for usable photos
  • Select photos based on technical quality and variety of dog's gender, story, etc.
  • Notify submitters that their photo has been selected
  • Interview owner/submitter to gain more details, then write short copy for calendar sidebar that accompanies the photo
  • Ensure that permission is granted to use the photo by the respective owner
  • Write preface (or arrange for guest writer) and select appropriate photos
  • Design 12-month calendar
  • Prepare photos for optimal print reproduction
  • Proofread to eliminate typos and other errors
  • Gather print vendor quotes
  • Submit quotes and calendar proof to RAGOM board for approval

Qualifications

Editor

  • Professional writing and editing experience (portfolio required)
  • Attention to detail
  • Collaborative
  • Ability to choose photos based on appeal of story, aesthetics, photographic quality, and variety
  • Comfortable collaborating via Google Drive, Google Sheets, PDF, and email
  • Self-motivated with strict adherence to schedule

Graphic Designer

  • Professional design experience (portfolio required)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Attention to detail
  • Good production skills, as you will be preparing files for printer
  • Ability to choose photos based on appeal of story, aesthetics, photographic quality, and variety 
  • Comfortable collaborating via Google Drive, Google Sheets, PDF, and email
  • Experience with Form+ is a bonus—if not, ability to self-educate
