Patch is doing great! He had his doctor appointment with the eye specialist. They said his eye looked normal and was just small. He has an optic nerve and a retina, and his pupil dilated and reacted to light the way it should.

He does have Entropion in that eye. That is when the eyelid rolls inward. Today they put a few stitches in his lower lid and they will stay in for several weeks. The hope is as he grows, the lashes will stay turned out and not scratch his eye.

The other big thing that happened today is, Patch has been adopted. He starts his new life with a wonderful family who has committed to caring for him and loving him!

Congratulations to the T family on their new addition to the family!

Patch comes to us from a commercial breeder. He is 10 weeks old (date of birth 2/18/18) and is now 10 pounds. He is a bit small for his age and may be the runt of his litter. He is a happy, playful guy and very loving.

Patch does have a birth defect; his left eye is smaller than his right eye. This is called Microphthalmia. His right eye is completely normal and his behavior is that of a perfectly normal puppy. We will be getting him checked out by a ophthamologist to see if he has any sight in his left eye. That appointment will be later this month. He will also be neutered at the end of the month and when he is cleared medically, he will be ready for adoption.

He has been with us for a week now and is learning new things every day. He gets along great with the big dogs in our home. He loves to play, chew sticks and chase things around the yard. He really likes our granddaughter. He will follow her around all day. He also likes to help when we go for a walk by carrying his leash in his mouth.

Please remember when you're considering adopting a puppy, they are a lot of work and need time, training and patience to become a good dog. You will need a good puppy plan. Puppies cannot go a full work day without a potty break. They should not be kenneled all day long. They need to get out and get lots of exercise to burn off that puppy energy.

Patch is a wonderful puppy and will be a great dog. If you think you have what it takes to be his forever home, I think Patch would like to meet you.
