Hi. My name is Billy, but my foster mom mostly calls me Little Man or Peeny, which is a combination of teenie and puppy. I came from a place where we played outside on the green grass, then me and my three sisters were put into a car and we went on a long trip. We drove and drove and drove for three days. I am so glad we got to stop and have a slumber party each night, though, so I could finally do my business in peace and quiet. When we were driving, the car stopped every hour and we were handed to a different person and then put in THEIR car. First, though, they had to give us 500 kisses on the face and tell us how cute we are. I tried to wipe all those kisses off when they weren’t looking. When we got to Minnesota, which is the nickname for Siberia, this nice lady did the same thing—she went all googoo and told us how adorable me and my sister are. She grabbed us and put us in HER car, but this time only drove a few minutes. She brought us to her backyard where there was white everywhere. She set us down and it was COLD! We both just stood there and pretended like we were statues. We were afraid to move because we’d break into pieces like an icicle. Finally, we started to shiver and she picked us up and brought us in the nice warm house and fed us.

I’m so glad this last lady brought us to her house because I really like her and I know she thinks I’m special. I found out she is my new mom. Sometimes when I am playing with my sister, she calls me and I come running over to her because I know she’ll tell me what a good boy I am or she gives me a yummy treat. I really like to make her laugh.

I’m used to the snow now!

Mom wanted me to get a little business out of the way: I had my wellness check at the vet office and they went all gaga over me and my sister too. The vet thinks we’re about 12 weeks old. I weigh 14 pounds and she thought we'll be on the smaller side—not more than 60 pounds when we get big. I am all UTD on my vaccinations and even got a Heartgard tablet made just for us little puppies. In a couple of weeks, I go back and will get more vaccinations and one more dose of medicine, in case there are any newborn worms in me (that is really yucky). The vet said I have pink eye, so my mom is putting medicine in my eyes three times a day. Me and my sister have coccidia too, so we are taking medicine for that. Next week, I get neutered.

Whew—now I get to talk about fun stuff again! I am quiet and shy and a little bit timid. My sister kind of shows off and makes everybody think she is smarter than me. I know stuff, but just keep it to myself and don’t flaunt it. We are out in the country and there is a lot to smell around here, so sometimes I don’t sit right away. When I sit, or shake, or do “down,” I just do it and don’t make a big deal out of it. I also poop way at the edge of the yard and behind a tree, not like my sister who poops wherever she feels like it and then somebody steps in it. My sister is kind of a hog too—she takes my chewies and steals the yummy bone I got for Christmas. I can take stuff too though—I take the stuffed toys she is playing with and run off with them. I am a rocket and can run faster than my sister. My mom wanted me to tell everybody how good I’m doing with potty training too. When I have to go potty or poop, I go stand at the door. She knows when I do this, I really have to go!

I love to cuddle!

Requirements:
I won’t need a fenced yard if my new family really works with me on recall and trains me where the edge of our yard is (because that is where I’ll probably want to do my business!). I’d like to have another dog in my new home, but I can be an only dog if I have a buddy I can play with every day. I like to be active and to run off-leash sometimes--at full speed! FM wants me to remind everyone that I am SO smart, so my new family needs to continue working with obedience and manners training. I’ll need to meet lots of kids and people of all ages, other dogs, and go places so I’ll grow into a confident, well-adjusted big dog.

Billy’s new mom and dad braved the icy roads today and came to pick him up. Within a few minutes, he and his new older fur brother were playing—so I think they’ll get along famously. His mom emailed me a little bit after they got home and informed me that he had removed all the toys, one by one, out of the toy box.

Thank you to the guardians who watch over dogs such as Billy and his littermates, and help find rescues to take loving care of them. A big shout-out too to Mobile Mutts who do such a beautiful job transporting dogs great distances.

Billy when RAGOM first took him in.

What a handsome boy now!

Billy continues to win our hearts over. He is so easy-going and about 75% of the time you’d never know he is a puppy he is so well behaved. He has yet to chew anything he is not supposed to. He will grab a sock and carry it into the living room, but he has never chewed on it or damaged any clothing, shoes, furniture–and that is a big yay for a pup! He amazes me how good he is with everybody and everything. Our older neighbor stopped over yesterday and Billy greeted him like they are long-lost friends. Our cats mingle and hang out with him like he has been living here for years—even our queen bee female who has an attitude and often makes herself scarce when fosters are here.

Foster Mom was at a conference last week and he stayed with another foster for several days. Here is what she reported back to me while he was there:

“He has been so good! I have had no gates up in the house since yesterday AM. My crabby resident Hunter is doing just fine with him, which is amazing. He has been playing with all the toys, and loves being outside in the yard. Boy, does he run fast!!! He does laps around the inside of the fence line. And he plays really well with Remi. …He is SOOOO easy!! And such a good boy!!! I have to learn how to video. He is so fun to watch outside. :)”

Billy learned a few new play tricks from his new fur-butt friend when he was gone, and when he got back, he taught them to our 8-year-old resident dog. They’ve been playing like there is no tomorrow—she has NEVER played with another dog like that. He really gets her going. We had my niece’s Terrier/Beagle mix stay with us for a week. At first, she was not into his puppy energy, but he won her over and by the time she left, they were inseparable—and hilarious to watch. :-)

We were at the Shakopee Meet and Greet last weekend and everyone was surprised how little he is. They kept saying, “And how old is he?” I put him on the scale and he weighs in at a whopping 19.5 lbs. I think the verdict is in and this surprise package (honorary Golden) is going to always be a little guy.

Other than that, not much is new—he is sooooo easy. He can be headstrong, though, I have to admit, so he’ll need firm leadership with his forever family. His recall is also not the best when he is into smelling something outside—so that will definitely need to be worked on too. I think we’ve got potty training down. He is really good about giving cues when he has to go. I keep the crate door open at night and he often will start out the night getting a few minutes of pets and love, and then he’ll jump down and sleep in his crate. When he hears the alarm, he jumps up on the bed all perky and lovey to say good morning. He is adorable and we love him to pieces.

Billy is SO HAPPY it is nicer out! He has been going for lots of walks and making us laugh every day.

Billy is doing so well. He just had a growth spurt and I swear he got bigger overnight. I suspect he’ll be a little smaller than the vet originally thought, and will be more like 40 lbs when he is full-grown. He is an adorable little peanut.

Billy is the easiest pup to have around. He has spurts of intense play and then will crash and nap for an hour or two. He is content to sit and chew on his favorite bone, or he’ll jump up on the couch with a stuffed toy and just chill out and take everything in. He’s a very content pup. It’s funny—once in a while he’ll grab a sock, but he’s not a chewer. He is fantastic about keeping his chewing to his toys—which are usually spread out all over the living room rug. :-) He is doing excellent with housetraining and has only had two accidents in the house since he got here in late December. Pretty darn good for a little guy! We still put him out pretty often, though, and especially after a nap and after he eats.

He is mastering some of the finer things that big dogs do around here: He has learned that if he sits in the kitchen with foster sister Angel, he’ll get yummy pieces of apple when FM makes her smoothie in the morning. He hops up on the bed at night and gets tummy rubs and kisses before he goes to sleep. He lies in the bed for an hour or two, and then jumps down and goes into his crate (I started leaving the crate door open). He sleeps the whole night through these days. His favorite thing to do outside is playing fetch with a ball, and is really good about bringing it back and plopping it down by me. He’s also a great helper when I feed the birds and wild turkeys and deer. I’ll say, “Billy, help me feed the birds,” and he follows me around.

He LOVES being outside and especially going for walks in the woods. An ideal home would have some acreage or a park close by where he could run off leash.

Here is a recap of Billy’s requirements:

  • He is great with kids of all ages,
  • Does not need a fence if he is trained to the boundaries of his yard and new family works on his recall,
  • Formal obedience training is recommended—he is super smart and needs to know he has strong leadership (he is a little on the stubborn side, so he needs clear direction early on!),
  • He is great with cats,
  • Another dog in the home to model and give him companionship is preferred.

Little Man is doing really well—he is such a sweetie. :-) I am pleased to say he has not had one accident in the house (not a one!!). We do put him out frequently, though. He is now fully integrated into our day-to-day household. He likes to play on a rug in the living room, or he hangs out on a dog bed just off the kitchen (where he won’t miss anything). The two puppies usually have a pile of toys surrounding them. We have a crate set up in the living room with the door open, and he takes naps in that. He also takes little breaks and will go in there to chill out all by himself. We pull the crate in the bedroom at night and he sleeps in it. He has slept through the night a few nights, but mostly, I put him out for a potty break sometime in the middle of the night. The two pups march right outside, do their business, and march right back in and go back into their crate—they are SOOO easy! In the morning, I pop my head inside the crate and the two pups LOVE good-morning kisses and belly rubs.

Billy was supposed to get neutered today, but we found out he has an upper respiratory infection, so the vet decided to hold off on the procedure. He has been a little fussy with eating the last couple of days, and the vet thought that was probably due to the infection setting in. He is also due for his booster vaccinations this week. We’ll get you all fixed up, little guy!

Billy is the sweetest, most mellow pup you’d ever want to meet. He’ll be ready to go home as soon as he has his neuter. Some family is going to be very lucky with this precious soul.
