Pleased to meet you ~ my name is Buddy! I think I am 8 or 9 years old but I am not really sure. I was taken in by a GS after she found me with gunshot wounds. She nursed me back to health and then I went to live for a while with another family with a couple of dogs, cats and kids but they could not keep me anymore.

I love my people and I do great with the RD dog here ~ I don't bother him at all and he doesn't bother me! I love kids and and quite frankly anyone who will pay attention to me.

I am going to the vet tomorrow  to get all checked out.  I don't think I have anything wrong with me but I guess they have to give me shots and look me over.

I love to roll in the snow and sometimes I howl. I really don't bark at all. I am housetrained and have had no accidents since I came last week. These people have let me have free roam all night and all day since I am such a good boy. I don't chew or get in to anything. I don't countersurf or jump up. I do, however, like to lay on the couch and climb on beds but I prefer to sleep on the floor at night.

My previous family said that I would run away but I always went back. Now I am kept on a tie out so I can't run away. I am doing just fine with this arrangement. I like to go for walks but I do pull on the leash. FD says I am getting better and I just need to work on it.

I will let you know how my vet appointment goes and then I guess they have to get me neutered ~ whatever that means.

If I sound like the dog for you please contact your placement advisor. My Foster Family keeps saying that I "am a dream come true". That must be a good thing!

Updates

Monday, May 5, 2014

Hello all Buddy fans - it's time to update!

Buddy spent a lot of time at the vet this week.  Thursday was Heartworm shot #2 and Friday was Heartworm shot #3.  One more month and he will be tested and hopefully all clear of those nasty worms!

Saturday was a scary day for Mr. Buddy.  He had been up several times in the night and could not do his business.  In the morning he had some bleeding so he went to the emergency vet in Fargo.  Dr. Ben at the clinic was great and he talked with FM & FD about what he thought was going on.  Buddy may have a bacterial infection in his colon so Dr. Ben gave him a shot and sent us home with some medicine.

Sunday has been a good day for Buddy.  He was not up at night and has been eating just fine (he gets chicken and rice until his stools return to normal).  When Mr. Buddy got his first bowl of chicken and rice he wasn't quite sure what the rice was all about.  He threw it all over and made a mess and had it all over his face!  Silly boy!  After a couple meals he has learned to eat the rice now!

When Buddy was sedated for his Heartworm shot it was discovered that he has a posterior lens luxation.  He will need to see a Veterinary Ophthalmologist which will probably happen in June.  A Dr. from IA travels to Fargo the second Monday & Tuesday of the month so we will try to get an appointment set up for him next month.  I am sure this will be another large bill so if you are able would you consider sponsoring Buddy?

Buddy is a tough guy and isn't letting all this get him down.  He watched his FB and FD leave for their walk this morning ~ too bad he is on exercise restriction ~ he so badly wants to go for a stroll.  His road to recovery has been too long...

Hi it's me, Buddy!

I have been doing fabulous.  I went back to the vet for my urinalysis (ouch!) and Xray.  My protein levels were good and my Xray showed some curvature on my lungs due to the heartworm.  The Xray also showed a LOT more bb's inside of me!  The vet is very optimistic that I will get through this fine!

I went to a Meet and Greet at the Petco in Fargo to meet some more RAGOM people from my area.  There were a lot of dogs and people there and I did just great (except I peed!).  Good thing they have those cleanup stations so my FM & FD could clean up after me.  I got along well with the other dogs there and I got to wear the donation vest and I did a good job!

I have continued to be a really good boy at my Foster Home.  When I first came I would howl a lot outside and sometimes in the house, too.  I know my people aren't going to leave me so I have pretty much quit doing that.  My FM & FD think it is pretty funny when I do it ~ I don't know why they laugh at me!

I am going to the vet on March 3rd for my first heartworm shot.  My FM says I have to stay there all day as this will be really hard on me and the vet and the nice ladies there want to make sure I am OK before I go home.  My FM & FD say this is going to be very expensive so if you could maybe think about sponsoring me I would be so grateful!

Over and out for now ~ I have to go find one of my people to pet me...

Update on Buddy ~ :(

Hello again, it's me Buddy. I went to the vet this week and I was a very good boy. I weigh 82.5 lbs and the vet said I have a beautiful coat. I got some shots and they poked me and took some of my blood to check me for heartworm. The vet called my FM later that day and I tested positive. I had to go back there the next day and they poked me again and took some more blood.

The vet called my FM yesterday and confirmed I have heartworm. When my FM gets home tonight I have to start taking some pills. I guess I have to take the pills for a month and then my FM & FD will have to take me back to get shots. It sounds scary but the vet said I am in good health otherwise so I should get through this like a champ! I have all the RAGOM people cheering for me and sending prayers and hugs so I am going to do my best to be a good patient!

The vet also did say that I did get shot by a gun. A BB gun, that is. I have a BB in my ear, one in my chest, one in my right hind leg and I think a couple on my snout. They don't bother me and you wouldn't even know it unless FM & FD showed you where they are.

I will go back to the vet on Tuesday morning for an Xray and Urinalysis. That should be a piece of cake. They won't poke me this time!

At home I still have free roam day and night and sleep on the floor on FD's side of the bed. My FB Buddy sleeps on FM's side. I really love my FM and always sit by her or on her and constantly give her the golden paw. She says I am such a good boy and that everyone loves me.

Oh and I forgot to mention - they said that the neutering won't happen until I get better - I still don't know what neutering is! No one will tell me!

FM here ~ Buddy continues to be a joy at our house. Curing the heartworm will be a lengthy, uncomfortable and expensive process for Buddy. Please consider sponsoring this handsome boy. We are very optimistic that he will get better and be able to find his fur-ever home even though it may be a while!
