Please welcome Buddy to the RAGOM family! Buddy is a one year old, neutered, 75#, up-to-date, very tall and very handsome Doodle. Due to work schedules, Buddy’s owners didn’t have time to exercise and train an active one year old Doodle. They made the difficult decision to surrender Buddy to RAGOM.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to Buddy’s temporary foster mom, Erin, for letting Buddy hang out at her house for a couple days. Another thank you goes to Rex 15-054’s foster mom for letting Buddy come over for a play date. Buddy told us he had lots of fun at both places.

Buddy is a great guy. He’s 100% housebroken and is crate trained. He sleeps in a crate in our room and is crated while we are at work. He whined for about 15 minutes his first night with us but now settles in without a peep.

Buddy has the typical energy of a healthy active one year old pup. Our resident dog, Josie, is a high energy dog so there are lots of walks and playtime at our house. Buddy and Josie love to wrestle with each other. We think Buddy would really enjoy having another playful dog in his family. If Buddy is the only dog in his family, he would benefit from trips to the dog park or time at doggy daycare.

Buddy loves to play with his tennis ball. In the house he entertains himself by tossing his ball in the air and then pouncing on it. Outside we can throw the ball the length of our yard and he returns it to our feet for another toss.

Buddy came to us with some bad puppy habits that are already getting much better. Buddy was mouthy when excited. We just said a loud “OUCH” and walked away when he mouthed us. He quickly caught on that mouthing doesn’t get him the response he was looking for. Buddy also liked to excitedly grab his leash on walks. Now that Buddy is getting multiple walks a day he no longer feels the need to grab the leash.

Due to his size and energy, Buddy would do best in a home without small children. We think Buddy would be fine in a home with cats. Buddy met Erin’s two cats while at her house. Buddy was interested in the cats in a friendly way, but once batted by one of the cats he lost interest.

Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to learn more about Buddy.

Buddy was adopted by S family. He has a Doodle brother named Gus who is also young and active. Buddy’s mom and dad have promised the boys lots of love and lots of play time in their big fenced yard. We miss you Buddy, but know you have a great life ahead of you.

Buddy’s houseguest this week was a 10# Dorkie (Dachshund/Yorkie) named Coco. Buddy met Coco with his best play bow. In typical little dog fashion, Coco returned Buddy’s friendly greeting with a nasty lip curl and huge snarl. Other than a surprised look on his face, Buddy had no reaction to Coco’s rude greeting. It didn’t take long for Buddy to realize Coco wasn’t a new playmate, and for Coco to realize Buddy meant no harm. The two peacefully existed together the rest of Coco’s stay.

Buddy is still very much a silly puppy. Foster Mom (FM) suspects the game of keep away must have been part of Buddy’s life before becoming a RAGOM boy. One day as FM was standing by the door with her mittens on, Buddy stealthily snuck up behind her and gently snagged a mitten right off of her hand! Buddy happily took off with her mitten, throwing it up in the air and catching it, and then giving it a good shake, all done with a big grin on his face. FM tried saying “Buddy COME”. Buddy doodle-danced just close enough to stay out of FM’s reach and then doodle-danced away again. FM then tried “Buddy SIT”. Again Buddy sat just out of FM’s reach. As soon as FM moved, Buddy again doodle-danced out of her reach. Fortunately for the mitten, FM has played this puppy game before. FM picked up Buddy’s favorite toy. Buddy immediately took notice of FM with his favorite toy and dropped the mitten. Good boy Buddy!

Now that Buddy has settled into our home and routine, we’ve been leaving him for short periods with free roam. We always make sure he has a walk before we go, and has lots of bones and balls to entertain himself while we’re gone. So far so good! Buddy has been left for up to an hour and a half with free roam. Buddy happily meets us at the door when we get home, and everything is in its place. This boy is definitely ready to meet his forever family.

Hey, it’s Buddy doing my own update today. I wanted to let you know life here in fosterland is GReat. Let me tell you about what’s been going on in my life.

I love my early morning and after work walks. And now that it’s lighter later, I get a bonus walk before the sun goes down. Woo hoo!

My foster sister, Josie, usually doesn’t share her toys with foster dogs. I have been such a gentleman about letting Josie choose any toy she wants that she doesn’t mind sharing with me. We can have the toys out all day! Another woo hoo!

I love to entertain myself by bouncing and pouncing on my tennis balls. I also love to chew on Nylabones. The foster folks tell me I’ve been a very good boy about only chewing on dog toys and not chewing on anything that doesn’t belong to me.

Now that I am getting lots of walks and playtime, I have also learned to enjoy curling up by the foster folk’s feet. When they look down at me and say “what a good Buddy” it means it’s time for me to roll on my back for some good belly rubs.

I have learned that being brushed feels really really good. It even feels good on my chin!

I am still using my crate at bedtime and when the foster folks are at work. I am so tired at night I can’t wait to crawl into my crate for some shuteye. When they leave for work I get a Kong stuffed with peanut butter and treats. I am so busy with my Kong I barely notice that they’re leaving.

Even though I love my foster home, I know there’s a perfect forever home just for me. If you think my home might be with you, please contact your placement advisor.

Buddy wants to give RAGOM volunteer Jackie a huge thank you for treating him to a much needed haircut and bath. Jackie is the owner of Jackie’s Precious Paws Pet Grooming in New Ulm, MN.

Buddy had a great time meeting Jackie’s three small dogs and fellow RAGOM foster Megan 15-034. Check out Doodle-Bud’s amazing new look!
