Fancy has been adopted! It must be a new record in terms of speed. It happened so fast that I never got a chance to fill everyone in on all of Miss Fancy's charming and funny antics. Here's just one: after Fancy's visit to the vet, she went on a diet. That translated into a reduction in kibble and the addition of green beans to her food. About 3 days into this effort, all of a sudden, Foster Mom couldn't find Fancy. Finally located her: lying down in the basement - in front of the kibbel cans - patiently waiting for more food! What a girl!

Fancy went to her Forever Home the morning of Goldzilla. Her family now includes two wonderful little girls who loved and made a fuss over Fancy as soon as they met her. And Fancy provides her own unique dimension to her new family: playing ball, walking to and from school in the morning and afternoon, sloppy kisses and snuggles at TV time. It all adds up to unfiltered love and devotion, which is obviously reciprocated. This is truly the way the world is meant to be.

Give a big WELCOME to our returning RAGOM girl, Fancy, who is a 5-year-old purebred Golden Retriever!!!

The following will give you a quick insight into Miss Fancy's personality and outlook on life. Her transport, from northern North Dakota to St. Paul last weekend was a long one; it took approximately 8 hours. When she arrived. Fancy jumped out of the car and eagerly met TFM's (temporary foster mom) three resident Goldens, complete with the attendant sniffing, circling, smiling and tail-wagging by all participants.

Fancy fully explored the back yard and then the house. She ate dinner and took a well-earned snooze.

Then, everyone went out for the last time of the day, and Fancy slept through the night, next to my bed. As you can see, Fancy is: Social! Happy! Secure! Flexible! Well-adjusted! Adaptable! Loving! She has settled into our home and routine like an old comfortable shoe. What a doll!

Fancy has been loved and well taken care of her entire life. Her surrendering family has a 4-year-old son. Fancy joins us because the family has a pending job change/relocation. You can quickly determine that she was an "only dog." She loves to be loved. And when TFM hugs one of the residents, Fancy materializes with a sad face, wondering why she's not getting all the attention. LOL.

Fancy had her well dog checkup at the vet's this week. She is current on rabies and distemper vaccines and received her Bordetella shot. She is now on both Heartgard and Frontline. At 8 months old, Fancy had surgery on both her hips for dysplasia. As the vet commented, "If I hadn't looked at her records, I would not have guessed that she had the surgery." She shows no sign of having been dysplastic, running and playing happily with the residents. To further insure her positive outcome, TFM has started Fancy on a daily regiment of fish oil and glucosamine/chondroitin. And, as she currently weighs in at 67 lbs., we've set a goal weight at 60 lbs. We want to insure that Fancy's hips remain healthy and trouble-free for her. So, in addition to happy, Fancy is healthy!

A few other fun facts are that Fancy is

  • fully housebroken,
  • has free roam of the house when I'm out,
  • wants to be with her people all the time,
  • loves car rides,
  • frequently carries a "stuffie" around the house, but is not destructive with it, and
  • loves to sit at the front door and guard the street.

More to come soon about this marvelous girl!
