Geno is one of a litter of eight who came to RAGOM via a breeder in Kansas. Geno is fairly timid and submissive, needing time and reassurance when encountering new people and things. He has big feet and will be good sized, if he fully grows into his front paws.
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

I'm excited to introduce Geno, one of eight puppies who joined RAGOM from a breeder in Kansas. Gene is a timid and submissive 11 week old male, 22 lbs, neutered, and UTD. He's being treated for infections in both ears, otherwise he's healthy.

Geno arrived from transport on the top of a pile of two of his siblings, huddled in the back of the crate, scared and confused. It took more than four hours once at his foster home before he would ever so slightly wag his tail. He's made great progress every day since, experiencing new things with the help of his foster brother's example and foster mom's encouragement and reassurance. Geno will do best in a furever family that has a confident, older dog and humans who are committed to his continued socialization and training.
Geno is crate trained and sleeps in a plastic crate next to FM at night. During the day, he is fed in a wire crate and knows to "kennel", running madly to the crate and sitting until served. He stays in the crate while the other dogs finish eating (not without complaint) since he's a little too anxious to share their meals in addition to his own. Once he's let out, he hightails it to each of the other dogs' bowls to ensure they did not miss a single morsel. He is crated when FM is gone, and, although it's not his favorite, he seems to settle quickly, especially if he has a frozen peanut butter Kong to occupy him for awhile. He's usually quiet when FM comes home, unless the other dogs heard her pull in and run to the door to greet her. Then Geno feels left out and barks his disapproval at his situation.
This puppy has learned to sit and will do so fairly consistently when going in and out the door, before a meal, and for treats. He is very food driven which presents some issues - he's grabby at treats, jumps at people with food, and stands up to counters, tables and anything he thinks might hold something of interest. While I think he'll do fine with kids of all ages, this is something for consideration if there are small children in the home. While we are working on these behaviors, his furever family will need to continue working with him, otherwise he'll be an epic counter surfer when he's big enough to actually get at things.
Geno loves to fetch; however, he hasn't learned to bring it back and prefers to take it to his bed. He's a "collector" and a thief, taking shoes and clothes. He empties the toy basket and will steal toys from his foster brother when he can get away with it.
Geno loves spending time outside and has been good about sticking close to FM. He's been to the lake a couple of weekends and seems to like the water and is learning to swim. He's good riding the 2+ hours to the cabin, although gets car sick when confined to a kennel so he's been riding in the back of the SUV with the other dogs and does just fine. He's also fine on boat rides (and ridding the boat of any bugs he can find).
At this age, potty training is a work in progress and while Geno is good about going when taken outside, he has no signal yet when he needs to go out and no consistent "schedule" of when he needs to do his business, so he does have accidents in the house. About two fosters ago, we invested in a Spot Bot and it is a the best money we've spent as pet owners.
Geno is an awesome puppy and will be a wonderful family pet with the right love, attention, and training.

Updates

Monday, June 26, 2017

After several weeks building confidence, including a lot of time at the lake, "helping" with landscaping projects, stealing anything he can carry, outings to Home Depot and Petco, gaining weight, and learning that barking at the door results in getting to go outside, Geno has been adopted!!

His new family has not only a young Black Lab brother for him to play with and continue becoming a happy, confident dog, he has his very own little girl to love on him and help care for him, a fenced yard where he can perform all his puppy antics, and a Mom and Dad who couldn't help but fall in love with him within minutes (not at all a surprise as it was very easy to do)!

We're so happy to have started Geno on the path to the Golden Life! Congratulations to Geno and the L. family!
