My name is Gucci and I am a 9-year-old Mini Golden Retriever. When my FM looked that up, I could be a Golden Retriever/Poodle or a Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel. I am a Golden Retriever/Cocker. I went to the vet this morning for my checkup and they told me I weigh 65 lbs. They would like me to be 50-52 lbs, so I guess I will be going on a diet. I was spayed by a vet at my first foster on 11-24-15 and am doing fine. I had all of my shots today, so I am up to date. The vet thought my heart was beating too slowly and out of rhythm and wonders if I could have a thyroid problem. He wants to check for that if he can. I got a bath and a groom because FM says when she got me, I smelled really bad and she couldn't give me a bath yet because of my stitches. They groomed me so that I would look pretty. FM says I do.

I am still very skittish and do not like loud noises or fast movements. When company comes to the house, I run upstairs and hide under the bed until they leave. I don't know if I will ever get over that, but they are working on it. I wish I could talk so I could tell FM what kind of a life I had before because it sure doesn't seem like it was very good. I have free roam of the house, but when FM is home, I am usually wherever she is. I am getting used to FD and I can get attention from him when FM is not home. I LOVE to be petted and brushed. They could do that all day. I have another dog that lives with me and most of the time, I don't mind him, but every once in a while, if he gets too close to FM when I am by her, I will give a low growl. FM tells me no and I stop. I do take his rawhide bones when he is not looking and take them upstairs to my bed that is on the floor by FM. I don't chew on them and I don't like treats or toys. I just like to lay around. The vet wonders if that is because my heart is too slow. I also have 2 cats that live here, but I don't pay any attention to them. One of them is really scared of me, but FM says she is that way with all dogs until they have been there for a long time. Guess that is all for now. Some of the pictures that FM has out here are before I was groomed.

Guichy 15-314 died unexpectedly on June 30, 2017. When I took her to the vet they said she looked like she just collapsed. When they did the autopsy, they found a tumor in her heart chamber and thought that a clot broke loose and she died instantly. Very hard to take. She was a foster failure. Very skittish but was my best friend. Very velcro dog.

Gucci was groomed on Thursday and looks so much better! The groomer said she did very well and had no problems with her at all. We had Easter dinner today, and my daughter brought her eight-month-old Golden, Alli. At first, Gucci growled at her whenever she would come too close. Gucci went to her safe spots of the kennel or the pillow behind my chair. She did eventually let Alli sniff her as long as I was sitting right there. My resident dog was close by watching; it almost seemed like he was being her protector. I also noticed when my resident dog Husker was gone at the vet for the day and then returned home, Gucci did run to him and they laid together on the floor. Although Gucci does seem indifferent to Husker at times, I do feel that Gucci feels comfort with having him around. I believe Gucci would benefit from having another dog in the home. My daughter also took Gucci on her first walk today. She said Gucci kept her head down and kept trying to turn around to come back home. As soon as she saw the driveway, she started pulling and went right into her kennel. Gucci continues to be a work in progress, but we are slowly gaining.

Gucci is such a sweet girl. She is really coming around since she knows us now. She knows the routine when I go to work in the morning, and when I get home at night, she is so happy to see me she talks. Still carries her 2 pillows around and has adopted a throw as well. She looks so cute when she is moving them from place to place. Sometimes when we go up to bed, she will make three trips just to get everything on her bed. When she wants to cuddle, she will come and put her front paws on my legs and we have figured out how to get her in my lap since she won't jump. I hold onto her collar and start to lift the footrest on the recliner, and she puts her back feet on the footrest and waits for me to lift it. Then she will sleep in my lap for a while while we have a good petting session. When she wants down, she will let me know and I can put the footrest back down for her. She is getting better when my son comes down and doesn't run and hide. She will stay where she is and just watch him. He talks to her and will pet her if she is within reach. The cats are used to her and she just ignores them, so now they can be in the same room or walk by her and not have to worry. She does come running now when I call her and gets really excited. She used to jet walk to me. She is still afraid of sudden moves and loud noises and will cower down and run away. No yelling at my house. She is a really wonderful dog after she gets to know you and realize that you are not going to hurt her.

There isn't much to update on Gucci. She is finally eating out of her bowl without having to put some on the floor. She has 2 pillows that she keeps with her all the time. I'm waiting for the streets to clear off so I can take her on a walk to see how she does. I did find out that she guards her bones and she likes to take Husker's if he happens to leave his. I did get some tennis balls to see if we could play, but she pays no attention to them. Still a very Velcro dog when I am home. She is a wonderful companion.

We are making improvements, but in tiny baby steps. Gucci will finally go outside to do her business without me standing there so she can see me. I'm wondering if she was fed on the ground, because when she eats, I have to put some on the floor first before she will eat out of the bowl. I am still not able to walk away, because she will stop eating and follow me. When I am gone, she brings one of my shoes to the kennel. She had adopted a little travel pillow that she takes to the kennel and brings with her when she goes behind my chair, where she stays until I move again. She is a very Velcro dog. She is getting better when company comes. She does not run upstairs and hide as long as I am in my chair, but if I get up and move, she goes upstairs and sits at the top, looking down until someone looks at her. She would love to be a lapdog, but for some reason does not jump. She puts her front paws on me and tries to climb, but cannot go the rest of the way. She is still a work in progress and will take a lot of time, but she will be a wonderful companion when she gets all her anxieties straightened out.

Yesterday, my foster parents had their family Christmas. There were a lot of people there and I was really scared. I went up to the bedroom and hid under the bed. Several people came up to try and get me to come out, but I would just go further back. Even foster mom could not get me to come out and I usually don't have a problem there. I could hear all the people downstairs and I did not like it. Later in the afternoon, one of the granddaughters came upstairs and I finally came out and she held on to my collar to take me downstairs where foster mom was sitting. They think the only reason I was willing to come out was because I had to go outside. FM had a hold of my collar while everyone was petting me or I probably would have gone back upstairs. Her daughter brought her foster failure to the house with her and she tried to make me feel that everything was OK. She laid beside me and we did not seem to bother one another. After they took me outside, I went back into the house, but did not go upstairs. I went to the resident dog's kennel which I have kind of taken over as my safe spot. I have 2 of foster mom's sweatshirts in there with me so I feel safe. I think they are hoping that when more people come around, they can get me to come out and not be so scared. There was a repairman that came to the house today, but I went back upstairs and hid again until he left. FM says I must have a sixth sense because I seem to know when someone comes in and when they leave. FM says I am a work in progress and it's probably going to take a long time to get me used to people. I still don't like loud noises and sudden moves. Even when FM moves too suddenly, I cower and go away from her. She sure hopes that one day I won't be so scared.

I am getting better with FM and FD. I just got back from the vet. I lost 2 lbs in a week. I don't like to eat and FM has to coax me to eat. She usually had to put food in her hand and after I decide to eat that, then I will eat out of the bowl, but FM had to stand right there until I get done. If she walks away, then I follow her. The picture is of me laying down while I eat. I do that sometimes. She says I am a very Velcro dog. The vet checked my thyroid today because all I want to do is lay around. It was fine, though, so we don't know what to do next. They cleaned out my anal glands and the vet said they were really bad. Hopefully, I won't have to have that done anytime soon again. Sometimes they have to be done every couple of weeks if I am prone to that. I sure hope not. We had company come a couple of times, but when FM's son came down, I went upstairs and would not come down. His girls came down and I stayed behind FM's chair. I did come out and let them pet me as long as FM had her hand on me. Don't know what I will do this Saturday when the family comes for Christmas. They let me have free roam when they are gone and they tell me I am a very good girl. I don't do anything wrong. I guess that is all for now.
